I have always found Uncle Toni's opinion of Federer genuine and not mind games like some suggest on tennis forums like TTW. He even said that as good as Nadal was in 2008 RG final, Roger came with a very bad tactic to play against Rafa on clay, suggesting that the score would have been more respectable if Federer had played his normal game.

I use to think it was a tool he used to motivate Rafa. Now I'm not sure.

Uncle Toni is right - if Rafa wants to be # 1, he needs to keep winning slams and retire on top.

This just an atp250 event, right? Crying for 2 hrs over this tournament? Seems s little excessive. I’m sure something was lost in translation there. He just needs to rest up a little longer. Heck, he’s uber wealthy, it shouldn’t matter that much.

I'm sure they all have a certain level of respect for each other. I know you've probably read about the Whatsapp group they use to communicate with one another. Its not suprising since they all share something in common that no one else could relate to. That being said, I do believe that mind games are in play to a certain extent. Afterall, Rafa is a poker player and you always hold your hand close to your chest as they say. I think Roger is playing a little this season as well. Nothing wrong with it.

The point is, Nadal will bounce back. He always does. He’s injured and it will take some rehab. He’s been injured before. People try to jump on the bandwagon “oh Nadal is done” too quickly (even the people around him sometimes) instead of having s little patience. Worst case scenario, he takes an extended amount of time off and then comes back stronger. He’s done it before.

Good post! After all the battles and all the slam wins 48 and counting between all three of them, they must have immense respect for each other.

He always HAS. Every time is different, and the last person to believe that is the person going through it. Nadal would feel differently if he was #10 and having a year like 2015, but when you're neck and neck with Federer and the most important part of the season literally starts next week, and you already just took a month off, im sure he has a million question marks around himself right now. It's the worst possible time for him to be dealing with this.

Well then he needs better people around him telling him not to worry about Federer right now. Federer is doing his own thing. Nadal has a completely different life and completely different game than Federer. Even so, Federer took a large amount of time off (and trained) but came back stronger and healthier. He also had a point where he decided that he wanted to still play and see what he could do, so he trained, healed, and waited for the right time(s) to return and play.

I think maybe the tournament director is a TTW poaster, so what he probably meant was that the nadl was whining for two hours non stop.

The article says that fedr fought back tears as he gave tribute to nadl.

I'm sure all the other poasters in this thread like SunnyLisnard agree that fedr is also a tool.

Sad to hear, at this stage, I know he can sense his own mortality now as far as his tennis career is concerned. Time is not on his side anymore. But it just show how much this sport still means to him, that a player like him can still get emotional.

For all the things that make Federer and Nadal different and opposites of each other, there are very few who can actually be so much alike. I am pretty confident Nadal is not surpassing Federer, but seeing just how legendary Nadal himself has become, it then leads to the following statement for those that dare to challenge Fedal....

- If you want to get to Federer, you have to get through me first. And getting through me is going to take more than you can imagine...

He will bounce back, I think he will also. But it's just not a good time to be on the bleachers. As Hitman said, I know he can see the clock running now. Tennis needs Federer and Nadal right now. Even Bore-Brit and The Mummy.

Wow this thread is cancerous..

I’m not a fan of Nadal but in times like this fandom goes out the window. Nadal is one of the greatest players of all time and when he’s in times of hardship we should show some class and respect.

Wishing Rafa a speedy recovery.

Yeah, I definitely got the same impression from the video/interview. Seems like your usual sensationalistic/clickbait article that is so common these days.

I'm sure Nadal wishes he was in better physical shape right now but I doubt he cried over pulling out of Acapulco.
