Watching the Cilic v Kohlschreiber match.

Cilic sent two rackets off-court at 20:00...one of them was delivered back to him at 20:18!

A true stringer takes at least 90 minutes per frame; these guys must be taking shortcuts like double pulling the mains and crosses. [/sarcasm]

Meanwhile in Osaka v Sakkari...

Sakkari sends two rackets to be restrung, 14 minutes later she is asking the umpire where they are...puts a different slant on same day service expectations ;)

"The stringing process takes about 15 minutes per racket and is then stamped with the famous Wilson logo and returned to the players. In a pinch, the stringers say they can string a racket in as fast as 11 minutes. "

This guy says official US Open time is 18 minutes:

"Triquigneaux says he has the most skilled stringers in the world, typically taking 15 to 20 minutes on a racket. But when a match in course situation arises, the pros hustle even more, condensing the process to 12 or 13 minutes."

It's impossible to string a racquet in less than 20 minutes. Anyone telling you so is a flat out liar

I can go definitively faster then 20 minutes. But for sure depending on the racket and string. But you have to ask how good the string job will be if you below 15 minutes. But if it is requested and needed it can be done.

I can do a quality job from cutting out string to stencil and label in less than 25 minutes. I guarantee that the guys at this event can get a frame strung and in the bag in 15. I know a lot of guys who have or currently string pro events who are fast and accurate.
Get educated before you make these kind of remarks.

one thing to remember at these major events,
its not just 1 stringer doing it all,,
you have several ppl helping with the "non.stringing work" (plz dont bust my balls about this, I know its ALL part of the stringers job)
such as cutting string
labeling (pricing)
stenciling
bagging the raket
running the raket,, (and I hope its running, not walking,, if it took me 14min to string and a ball kid takes 7 min to walk the raket to court side, i'de be pissed).. o_O
btw, you can see this on youtube (when looking at stringing at major events,), always a team of ppl helping the stringer...
oh yeah and dont forget " the reporter", with the mic on the stringers face asking always,,, "what are these poly, um polyester strings I keep hearing about?",,

I have had the opportunity to string for the Australian Open, U.S.Open and Masters 1000 series, and numerous 250 level events. I was in the middle of the pack as far as speed. Stringing 3 in an hour is not unusual. Some guys/ girls are a little faster, some a little slower. You would not want to do 12 minute string jobs for an extended period of time. Too much stress. I cannot do a 12 minute professional job. 16-17 minute on court is possible for me if everything is "in sync". Finding the tail of the reel, no tubing, string behaving (no kinks, not getting caught up on the machine, etc)

Just out of curiosity, What would be the % of frames that youve done at these events that are 18/20 pattern? (In a day, I should specify), tnx..

The % of 18 x 20 has gone down over the past few years. A lot of variables there. Guys, Girls, Pros, College, Juniors? Guy pros around 70% a few years ago. Down to 50% to 55% now.

While that might seem a good thing for the sttinger at first (since 18/20s are more time consuming), Im think that's also bad...
Have you notised whether or not players are bringing more rakets to be strung at once? (Now that more open patterns are showing up?)
im just picturing dmitrov showing up with 12 rkts for a 5set match,,,

Btw tnx for your insight, i like hearing inside info from these events...

Good professional stringer can do it in 15 minutes. so they must have used 2 different' stringers ??

Same stringer, same machine has exceptions. Like the player wants 2 racquets back as soon as possible for an
"on court"

That's a womens player thing. I had Kerber's coach and hitting partner asking me about an on court last summer. It took me 16 minutes for restring with a gut hybrid and I saw both of them in that time. When I handed it to her on court she just put it down on her bag and kept the same racket. Go figure.

50%. Think about the frames you see on TV. If it is an Ultra, Blade, or Burn paintjob it's probably 18x20. If it's a bab or yonex, it is what it is for an off the shelf. It it's a head it just depends on which model the player reps, some of the prestiges are 16x19, most are 18x20.

Yeah, tnx; somehow I figured it would be a higher %,,
I guess it kinda makes sense though, since racquets get switched out after a few games anyway,, and stringers are turning them out quicker,,,
1 other question, (dont need to be too specific,, ball park is good),,, whats the going $rate for 1x stringing at a pro event? (Just the stringing,, since dif strings can cost diff..)

I don't truly know its usually taken out of prize money. I think I heard the guys say $26 per last summer.
