sup fellas
recent racquet-testing shennanigans got me thinking that we should have a thread like this for 2018.
Me and my 2 hitting partners went on a racquet testing binge the last couple of weeks; so far these are our picks regarding favorite/least favorite sticks we tried:
fav:
letstakeourshirtsoff (~4.0): chinese RF97 knock-off (100% graphite).
I was seriously amazed how well this stick played. My buddy Martin bought this one just for the lulz actually, but we were pleasantly surprised at how stable and comfortable it played after a bit of customization. Stiffness is probably around 60RA which contributes to a super buttery feel. Precision, Power and Spin were average at best though. But definitely a pleasant surprise.
Martin(~3.5): Prince Textreme Beast 98.
He's considering the switch to this from his Pure Drive. Highest praise you can give a racquet imo.
Arthur(~4.0): Volkl Powerbridge Mid.
He says he loved the control and felt like the racquet was able to deliver said control without losing too much power. From a purely objective viewpoint this would have been my pick also, but given the huge surprise of the RF97 knock-off, I chose that.
least fav:
letstakeourshirtsoff: Babolat Pure Aero.
couldn't gel at all with this. liked the power, hated pretty much everything else especially feel related. honorable mention would also be the angell TC97; anticipated that stick like a school-boy anticipates christmas, was a huge let-down. Arthur put it best as to what's wrong with this stick imo (see below). the PK redondo MP wasn't up my alley neither, but I just don't like my stick to be that soft. Other than that the PK was ok and not overpriced like the angell.
Martin: Couldn't really answer this one as he's fine with most sticks (and switching frequently too).
Arthur: angell TC97.
Said he never felt more disconnected to the ball than with this one. also pointed out that a racquet that is praised for it's customization regarding weight&balance, it's a poor joke if one buys a stick that's roughly 6g lighter than advertised. couldn't agree more.
what are your choices?
