Since the rain is on I'm feeling generous. A gift for @zagor

Fedal fans like me.

I'm a big Nadal and Fed fan and 2007 Wimbledon F is my favourite match of all time.

Fair point, but usually when someone retires from a match you usually think "oh god, what's wrong. Is it serious?" and it turned out to be a really minor thing that a lot of people would probably play through

I am no Nadal fan, but if you have hip problems it is hard to play. You may not know if it is minor or major and with a career like Nadal has you don't take the risk. Does anyone here actually play tennis? I am beginning to think not.

Yes, I have played through a minor hip strain, as has pretty much everyone who has played sports. Look at any other sport and most people would play through it. Look at hockey players, for christ's sake

If Nad loses this or loses at all this week, everyone is going to be soooo shocked. I don't get that.
It's like people expect him to go forever.

Winning RG is hard, even if Nadal makes it look easy. If he's not playing well, he will lose.

Nah, if he has 10 of them, he must have won a few, not playing well.

Interesting how the rain delay affects the momentum.. I like how big diego is cracking it to the Nadal BH and opening up the court..
His game plan is working. Lets see how it holds up

I am sick of this rain delay crap. If Diego can’t finish this match that’s on him and not some rain delay. He needs to hope that nadal’s level doesn’t go high

Maybe even the opposite! As I already said, right now I’m a bit depressed (as much as it gets concerning being a sports fan) that Federer isn’t here to take advantage of a beatable Rafa. If Rafa would be as good as 2017 I could easier live with it to be honest.

But as it is, even the chance for CYGS was there, and that is regrettable (at least for me).

I have to and I did not play well, and my hips are not worth tens of millions of dollars. If they were I would take very good care of them.

The match will resume. But we already know the outcome. Nadal perked up and he's ready to sprint again all over the court. He'll make the rain dance to celebrate his victory ...

Tennis players play thru pain every day.
I've seen Rafa using mto but don't recall retiring from it many times.

Okay, let's clear this up. I am not arguing about Nadal being injured and not being justified for taking a MTO. I am saying that many people blow his injury troubles out of proportion. After that match, a lot of people were worrying about him being done for months, as we've seen with Murray, and then the injury turns out to be something really minor

I get that. Anyone at a professional level plays through pain. Sometimes you have to pick your battles though. You don't want to ruin your career to prove you are a tough guy unless you are a financial moron. I don't even like Nadal I hope he loses every time I see him, but can't fault him for calling it quits in a match when he has an injury.

Huh? momentum swings even during the match. With a rain delay you get coaching, muscles tighten, thoughts enter the mind. Not sure what you mean

I agree with that. I was only referring to the match he took the MTO and then quit. Otherwise I think Nadal cheats whenever he can get away with it

If Rafa is feeling pain in his wrists, then even this break might not be enough. He really has not looked his usual self in the match so far.

I hope I'm wrong, but Diego isn't like the other guys, I expect he will play just as well after the rain delay.

Bolelli wasn't too affected either.

It's not his fault, but he's been lucky in the Rome final and now at a very important time here again though to be honest I still think he'd win this. Everyone is going to get lucky sometimes. Though earlier on with the MTO before Diego served for the match then another delay before set point... maybe it's not Rafa who is lucky today but Diego who is UNlucky.

Similar thing with Federer at Wimbledon, had a rain delay one year when Roddick was up a set and a break in the final, and though he didn't win in 2008, I think he was 2 sets down before a rain delay to Nadal? It's just this coming so soon after Rome vs Zverev, people are going to go "wow, again?!" Over the course of a whole career, the rain has probably not favoured Nadal more than any other big player, just seems to be on a roll of it at the moment.

And yeah the conditions might not suit him that much, but that's outdoor tennis for you. Conditions can't suit one player 100% of the time, but if you are the best as Nadal is you should be able to adapt. It's like people moaning about grass becoming worn away at the end of wimbledon and thus slower.... that's the nature of the game. If you want perfect conditions, play indoors... but he doesn't like that. He's still the king of clay even if it gets damp, he can still beat anyone in damp conditions, just at the moment Diego is playing better than him. Very few though could do that over 5 sets so, dampness or not, Nadal is always the man to beat. I don't get why people act like the king of clay becomes flat out useless on it when it gets damp. Give the other guy some credit and also maybe admit Nadal will just have off days regardless of conditions.
Oh I'm not even talking about their respective games, just that one line of logic. I have no doubt Diego is outclassing Nadal at the current moment.
