There's no one as insecure as a Fed fan. He has so many records and his fans are still afraid of Rafa and angry when he wins, coming with all kinds of false accusations.
Rafa is mot matching Fed’s slam record. This is my opinion all along.

Nadal is cheating when he took more time than the allowed by the rule. This is a fact. The length Nadal fans would take to rationalize the unsportsmanlike behavior is text book example of human stupidity.

Jedi ... are you serious? Half the posts in this 39 page thread about a Nadal match have been made by Federer fans! :)
My point is that being a fan of Federer is not the same thing as disliking Nadal. I realise that the anti-Nadal brigade doesn't like it when he wins, but one shouldn't conflate being anti-Nadal with being a Federer fan. There may be many vocal people here who are both, but you can be one and not the other.

I'll be rooting for Delpo in the semi, but that's because I like him and would like to see him win another slam (though not over Fed ;) ).

"I was a bit lucky yesterday because of the rain stop," Nadal admitted afterward. "I was able to stop, to think, to calm down and see things a bit more with clarity....Psychologically and for tennis, I had totally different feelings. I had more confidence."

“At the beginning yesterday, there were no options to open up the court to win points. Today I moved forward and I had a better backhand. I was able to open the court on his forehand. Yesterday I was not able to do so and I was not gaining ground. When I was able to do that, I was able to win the match.”

Nadal* 4-6 Schwartzman (*next server) - first set Schwartzman
Nadal wanted a medical time out at the change of ends, but he waited too long to ask and so will have to soldier on.

----------------

That's the first set Nadal has lost at the French Open since 2015. And he's getting his wrist taped up at the end of the set.

@zagor

so he tried to take a timeout at 5-4, Schwartzmann serving, but couldn't.

Trying to disrupt , but failing to do so.
If you think he was trying to disrupt, then sure. He's been behind in plenty of sets this season though and hasn't taken MTO's though.

what's weather got to do with it ?

he says nothing, but I think it's fair to question him...

"The changes were not the sun or the rain. It was within myself, Nadal said of the difference in his play between Wednesday and Thursday. "Of course, the rain helped stop the match and helped me think about the match, and that's a reality. But in terms of play, what changed is how I played and how I managed the match."

He's made this exact adjustment many times in the past without the rain or any interruption(last example is against DelPotro in the US Open semi). I think his basic strategy is retrieving and that is what he feels comfortable doing but if he gets too passive then the other player has a good chance.

Revisiting this thread and the match.. Nadal fans what were your feelings before rain interrupted ???? Surely Schwartzman gave a huge scare for me !!
Share your feelings fellow Rafans @Backspin1183, @Rafa4LifeEver , @zuluzazu, @MichaelNadal , @aman92 , @BackhandDTL , @Yugram ,@tusharlovesrafa, @octobrina10 & people I missed.
I was super confident that nadal would find a way to win the next day. Diego almost always troubles rafa but he finds a way to ugly vs Diego except this years Rome lol.

Slightly nervous but I really didn't think Rafa would lose in that tournament....he was still so far ahead of the rest of the field in 2017 and 2018.

I'll be honest here, sir.
I thought the upset was on the cards. In the last 4 years of rafa's rejuvenation and RG conquests, I've never seen him as clueless, endangered and helpless as he was in that match vs Diego. I could totally see the small guy taking down nadal, but rain saved Rafa, who produced some of the outstandingly impressive tennis in his next 2 matches.
Without rafa, probably delpo was gonna win the title.

And I'll be honest with you Sir!!! I thought exactly the same except I didn't think far ahead as who was gonna win the title. For sure Rain saved the day for us.

I remember that match quite well. I thought an upset was definitely on the cards. I was already thinking, it doesn't matter, he'll just have to win it next year, this year might not be the one for him.

He was in a really bad position before the rain delay. That definitely helped a lot
