Dave Rogers started this petition to NBC
On December 3, 1968, NBC aired what has since become known as Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special which was not only the most watched TV special that year, but also the catalyst for a rebirth in Elvis' career and the motivating factor in his decision to return to performing in front of live audiences again after several years of making movies in Hollywood.

We are petitioning NBC to replay the unedited version of this special on the 50th Anniversary next December 3, 2018, in the same time slot of 9:00PM EST in honor of this historic television and cultural event.

This will not only be a great show of respect for the life and legacy of Elvis, but also a true thrill for his millions of fans around the world.

As for me, i'm going to put up and post relevant vids and promos re: the SINGER PRESENTS ELVIS (original tv special but these days known as the '68 Comeback) as this very month June 22-29, represents exactly 50 years since the tv special was being made over in the NBC burbank, california studios. AWESOME Milestone.

The following are the actual adds that NBC played re SINGER Sewing Machine who sponsored the TV special, on Tuesday, December 3 1968 at 9pm. Only U.S. $199 for new sewing machine and U.S. $1.95 for new LP in those days :)

So many 50th anniversaries coming up this year and next:
1968

We've already passed the MLK/RFK assassinations anniversaries.
1. Bob Beamon's leap into the future (29'2" long jump when WR was nearly two feet less. Mexico City Olympics

2. Same Olympics...Tommy Smith and John Carlos black gloves clenched fist salute for the national anthem. Would be crucified for political gain by Covfefe45 today.

3. Chicago riots at the Democratic Convention.

1969

1. Moon Landing

2. Woodstock

3. Jets upset Colts SuperBowl 3

Great tribute idea.

Also quite a revolutionary moment for Elvis. About the first time he put his foot down and went against Col.Parker's instructions.

As you probably know, Parker wanted a chunky jumper, Christmas show with twee Christmas songs.

Elvis said "No".

yes that's right but only after producer Steve Binder challenged the Colonel's original concept and wanted the special to be all about Elvis singing his famous songs. EP then sided with Binder's vision. Mate, did you hear the sad news drummer D J Fontana has just passed ? He was on the TV Special.

That's a shame. The last of the original quartet.

I believe TCB band members James Burton and Ronnie Tutt are still going though.

Arguably, the best singer (actually no argument there :)) + the best guitarist (Moore) + the best drummer (D.J. Fontana) .

Unfortunately the drummer showed up on the comeback with only a guitar case.

"Armed with accuracy, power, swing, dynamics, great time and—the biggest compliment of all—simplicity whenever it was best, D.J. rocked the greatest singer and the greatest songs.... ever. He did it year after year, record after classic record. In a world of one trick ponies and lucky "Rock Stars," D.J. is the real deal." ~ Stan Lynch
