Oh she's got a great chance for sure. Serena hasn't had to play a player like Kerber this tournament

Kerber will indeed have a shot because she plays a different game (instead of trying to beat Serena at her own one) but it's not a great chance, she'll be the clear underdog for certain.

Serena is so tough on grass, even if you match her groundstroke for groundstroke (which most players can't) she has that serve.
I often wonder what her career would look like if 2-3 of the majors were played on grass like old times. We only get to see her (or anybody) play one (maybe two) tournament a year on grass, so we don’t get to see her fully dialed in on the surface til half way through the tournament. 2012 Olympics she got to play a second tournament and it was epic level.

It's hard to say, more big tourneys on grass would also mean a tougher field on it, everyone would be gearing their game towards grass. However, I do think it's her best surface so she'd probably have even more slams than she does now.

You'll find a lot of people over the next day or two will be picking Kerber to win. Yeah, she's the underdog but not a big one it's 60/40

All of you talking about grass and I suddenly asked myself: where's Pironkova? After a short search, I found out she's pregnant. I had no idea.
Another mom for ESPN to blabber about.

Just wait, pretty soon they're gonna add an extra stat for Serena. Win/loss vs other moms.

In studio, Bethanie Mattek-Sands was giving Goerges every chance to defeat Serena, and said as much about Kerber's chances, if Serena moves forward. So on that note, I don't think Serena is the overwhelming favorite here or if she made the final, in the minds of some.

She’s not the overwhelming favorite but i just can’t see her losing the final. We will see. The match’s on her racquet in my humble opinion.

You try losing a stomach after having a complicated pregnancy and c-section.

I just think the the cut of her dress is very suspicious.

Anyway, congrats to Serena fans. Görges had her chances but obviously couldn't handle the pressure.

I’m feeling a lot better about Serena’s chances in the final, but Angie is a very different (and better) player than Julia, so we’ll see.

So what will be serena williams’s ranking if she somehow wins Wimbledon? I know she has been away for awhile but it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to know she’s a top 5 player maybe even top 3 or maybe the best when healthy even at this stage of her career.

As I mentioned previously, Goerges was at the #10 spot briefly in Feb.

I just realized that there is a good chance that she will not make it back into the top 10 after Wimbledon. If Ostapenko should win her SF match against Kerber and Goerges loses to Williams (which seems likely), then Jelena takes the #10 spot instead of Julia.

OTOH if Ostapenko meets Goerges in the final, then Kerber drops out of the top 10 I believe.

Even tho she did not prevail today, Julia G has secured her spot back in the top 10 (since Jelena O also lost in the SF today). Congrats Julia.

Yeah I am also feeling more hopeful based on this match. It was a very good display from her.

But Kerber will be a lot tougher.

Lol i have no doubts that Kerber will push her hard but Kerber has to hope that Serena has a bad serving day and spraying errors left and right.

According to this, the maximum of points she could achieve is 2315. So, she would be ranked 19 (Osaka is the 18th, with 2350).

Totally predictable-stopped watching after the start of the second set-tuned back in to see her break Serena & then mugged her service game to lose by love. Doubt I will bother with the final.
