How attractive is Maria Sharapova?

Ok, I will give you that we don't pay paricular attention to the less attractive women out there, and I will even agree that she is pretty, but to me her looks are right at the same level of several of my friends whom I consider to be average. To me she looks like just one of the girls that you would hang out with, not the friend you walk down the street with and every man whistles at.

Ah, Cameron Diaz. Heycal will take a moment to boast about he was fortunate enough to be her partner in a charity pool tournament several years back, just before she became a huge star. While not the most gorgeous woman I've ever met, she was "way above average", and she had a certain something that made her grow more attractive the longer you were around here, so by the end of the evening one was hopelessly in love...

She couldn't play pool for beans.

ok i think im gonna stop arguing in here.. next time ill post ill be the on the neutral side.. but in reality my points stand as maria sharapova is very ordinary.. theres nothing special about her in terms of her looks.. and yes ive seen alot of girls that are way better than her.. and yes i choose these girls over masha and heycal's view of average girls... and blind or not blind towards these so called 'unattractive' girls.. watever maybe im blind.. but the average girls that i personally know are more than wat maria is.. so who cares if me and the other 50% of the people that have voted in this forum is blind.. obviously we just have higher standard.. hey i just noticed this.. i shouldnt need to try to convince you what good looking is or whats not good looking is.. if ur aim is that low, then by any means u can aim low.. it gives us more chance to get someone higher.. so yes heycal no more arguing with u anymore.. so im asking u dont attack my post anymore.. im gonna be on the neutral side now just so that theres no fight or argument between us anymore.. ok? so this is my point of view this is my eyes and my heart so please respect it :)

I'm not going to attack you, bc-05. But since you keep saying both here and in the Canadian Chic's Corner thread how you are done with this argument and this thread, why do you keep posting in it?

I believe it.

The reason most of these woman are considered beautiful is not because of make-up artists, it's because -- are you ready for this, everyone? -- they are actually beautiful women. If one searches around, one can find horrible pictures of babes like Sharapova and these movie stars on the internet, but those photos are even less truthful than the airbrushed ones. It's not like these women are all horribly unattractive in real life and there's some secret conspiracy that wrongly elevates them to hottiedom. For the most part, they are just truly attractive, period.

I don't even think movie stars are top notch. I will admit that many are above average, but the most attractive women I've seen have always been in real life. I guess too many movie stars are too skinny, which bothers me.

She has a lot of acne which you only see during matches.
She is good looking, thats all. I've seen her in person many times, trust me she is attractive but not attractive enough to be the Highest paid female athlete on the planet.
Good for her, she or Yurie has hired the best marketing team on earth.

People from NYC have an amazing bias about almost everything pertaining to NYC. (It isn't deserved.)

You were born too late. There used be stars like Sophia Lauren and Ursula Andrus and Ann-Margaret and Marilyn Monroe... What I find more disturbing is that many young starlets start out looking great and feminine, and then they become very famous and suddenly start dieting and working out like crazy and negatively affecting their looks. Jennifer Connelly, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez are prime examples of this phenemenon, among others. All were more attractive before they discovered the gym.

New York is special, which is why they charge a premium to visit and live there. It's also relevant to this thread, because the most talented and attractive people migrate to places like New York City and not, say, to Boulder, Colorado.

Actually, I'm trying to get you to acknowledge reality, and to acknowledge that society's perception of beauty deems Miss Sharapova a very attractive woman (and rightfully so, in my opinion.)

You must care somewhat, since've you posted about a half dozen times in this thread so far... As for who's "mounting a campaign", I would suggest it's you and a few of the others here who are doing so, for that term denotes trying to change something or overcome some obstacle. I am just defending the common-sense status quo and pointing out the facts and the reality of Miss Sharapova's triumph in the world's view of what's attractive. If you don't like that fact, then start writing those letters to her sponsors and the SI swimsuit folks and so on...

Yes and no. I made the point earlier that the reason she is the highest paid female on the planet is because she's very pretty AND a great player -- she is the prettiest of the BEST athletes on the planet. Girls like Ashley Harkleroad:

Some of the other things:

- Education
- Loyalty
- Industriousness
- Good with kids
- Carries self well

Good qualities that women look for in men too.

The look comes through in confidence and that you're looking at someone genuine. I don't know what it is about Sharapova but look at the expression
on her face on many of her pictures. She frequently look annoyed.

heycal, I haven't read through the last 3 pages, 'cause quite frankly, I've figured out the motives of some of these people. They want to give the impression that their standards are SO much higher than those of us who think that some ugly, barely-human-looking Maria Sharapova is hot. People like me and you, we've never really seen any beautiful girls, so our standards/expectations are just so much lower than than bc-05's, CC's, etc. Why, I'm sure bc-05 has dated/bedded so many girls who are much better looking than MS, that if he ever had the chance to go out with some low-life like MS, he'd have to pass on it. She just doesn't quite measure up to the beauty he's used to in a girl. Yeah, and I just fell off a turnip truck...

Good point, 10sfreak. They are trying to make us look like desperate guys who've never been out of the house and seen a good looking woman, while portraying themselves as hip jet setters who party regularly with girls who make Victoria's Secret models look ugly. It's ridiculous.

After a long night I find this tedious yet can't pull myself away from the disaster. Heycal and Raiden: the pics posted were to counter the ridiculously pulled "average" ones poster by Heycal - those were of obviously below par ladies. Get a bit of a grip please. I stated that "SOME" of my friends are indeed as beautiful as ones in the pics I posted. I never stated that all my friends look this way (in fact I believe I even mentioned after a trip to the salon). Those women easily fit into the two percentile. Sharapova does not (with or without makeup).

Frodo luv, I have already explained my views on beauty, including superficial, inner and natural. I have also stated my thoughts on the before and afters and the enhancement as opposed to creation of exterior looks. If you are going to quote me or respond to me, at least lay my words out correctly - otherwise that is simply bad manners.

The picture on the left looks a lot better to me than the picture on the right.

I don't see why women spend awful amounts of money, time and annoyance for having to wear all that stuff. But a lot of them do.

Quick note on Halle Berry for those who care: She came into a bar in the East Village where my friend works a couple of months ago. Don't know how made-up she was or wasn't, but my friend reported that she looked smoking hot gorgeous in real life...

she is average looking but has those long legs that everone wants wrapped around their waste =) I don't think she is cute or even fine...Tatiana G. is better looking than she is.

There's no accounting for 'personal taste' .... I've just finished a scrump-diddle-e-ump-tous salmon dinner-o and am off to play (another "happy to say") charity-based "gig"

I hope 'they' like our (musical) "looks" ..... then again, there's no accounting for personal taste.

Later-I'm outta here; when you think about it: it's only opinon-based: you think she's 'hotter than hell'......you think she's 'above average'.....you think she's 'average'....you think she's "slightly below' average.....and junior ("Rosie Palm-15 yr. old) here thinks she's "dish-rag" material.

Once again, it all boils down to: there's no accounting for "personal taste" ..... the 'twain shall never 'meat'

I've seen better......lord knows, I've seen worse. But then again, with a six-foot tall, blue-eyed frame (and 'bootie-to-boot') ......well........, once again, I've seen worse; her chinny-chin-chin-zit-a-meisters notwithstanding.

I think you guys are being a little harsh on Sharapova, and Frodo has brought up some great points.

Here are some more before and after comparisons showing the effects make-up could do to someone.

She looks nice in both pictures. Not particularly happy, but, she is pretty.
Oh, I get that comment about nice skin, too. And I never wear any make-up (I'm a man). I'm sure those comments will stop when the wrinkles and laugh lines kick in from a lifetime of laughing and sun damage.
