Please retire Roger....

Having been a huge fan of Roger over the years it’s reached the point now where I don’t even enjoy watching him play now. I just end up whincing on every shot he hits, praying another error doesn’t come. He’s had his brilliant rebirth in 2017, now it’s just painful to watch most of the time. Really hope he hangs up his racket after this year.

Jeez, stop being a wimp. It's been a bad match (that isn't over yet.) Maybe see how the next 6-8 months play out before burying him.

That's funny, that's exactly the feeling I had watching him in 2013 but here we are now and he's #2 in the world. I don't feel good about his chances at the open, but I hope he can stick around another year or two

Playing back-to-back-back matches like the cincinnati schedule doesn’t favor orderer bodies that take time to recover. He should be fine at us open where he gets day off between matches.

Disgusting OP.

The man is 37 years of age, holder of a slam title, and ranked No 2 on earth. He may be about to suffer a defeat in a Masters final to another all-time great who is six years younger.

If you cannot support this man, and whine about him, you cannot support anyone.

Agreed upon by all objective tennis observers.

Here comes all the dramatic Fed fans and haters we’ve been seeing since 2010 saying he’s done , needs to retire etc. Shut up. Grow up. Accept the loss

Oh, go away you crybaby. You have the privilege of watching a 20 time GS champion play and are whining about him losing a Masters final to another ATG? Grow up.

Finals of the event

Played like trash so thats something

Lost to a younger player that is almost right behind him as the 3rd best player of all time (after Pete)

Maybe reverse the favor at the US Open this time

Meh

Only 16 months or so ago, Federer was arguably playing the best tennis of his career at Indian Wells. It's just unfathomable how he can play so poorly only 16 months later on a court that perfectly suits his game. I worry about his US Open chances. On this form he won't make the 3rd round.

It's not about losing, it's about how you lose. The way Fed looked today he'd have been lucky to win a futures match.

If Nole is in, Roger has nothing to give.
Sad thing that it takes only Nole to beat him, while others are just standing in awe when facing him. Ofc Roger doesn't play clay no more so that Nadal could toy with him like Novak.

Yeah I’m probably being melodramatic, think I’m still reeling over the Wimbledon loss, also the fact he spoilt us with his incredible 2017. Im honestly not bothered about how much and what he wins in terms of titles, I just want to see him playing well again and I haven’t seen that for almost a year now. His performances at the AO weren’t great.

Wouldn't say that's fair, Federer has had an unbelievable 18 month run. Very few players in the history of the game would be able to regularly toy with the best form Fed has exhibited these past two years. Federer beat Novak six times in 2014/15, and pushed him to the brink in '14 Wimby and '15 US Open. If he returns to his best, he can challenge anyone on tour bar Nadal on clay.

The way novak was playing today, he would have beaten RAFA by the same score. so I don't think Roger played that bad considering this is his 1st tournament back.

Yes it was quite sad watching him but he's still Roger Federer, he's still my favourite player and poor performances or even seasons won't change that for me. Great to see him make another Masters final despite the poor form and hopefully the USO brings some positivity.

 No, he wouldn't have. And Fed did play like crap, his return was hilariously bad, FH all over the map, first serve missing a lot of the time, DF at crucial moments.

Jesus Christ, stop being so buthurt. I swear I've heard this "Roger please retire" in 2013, 5 years ago. Since then he won 3 slams, 6 masters, played bunch of masters and grand slam final, he is No2 at age 37, man is still relevant. He lost against much younger, one of the best players ever to play tennis, and you people are talking about him retiring. Fed has at least 3 more years in him. And this comes from a die hard Novak fan.

2008 to be honest. where people were questioning his form especially after the wimbledon loss

Yeah but he was 27, that would be ridiculous. I remember in 2013, he was 32, he lost on US open against Tommy Robredo at 4th round. I remember Eurosport comentator said "he should retire" , guy was so crushed. Reaching finals at his age is incredible., but he won a slam this year people!

You should just cherish the days/weeks where he does play really well. Take Simon in Pune this year for example. One of my top three favourite tennis moments this year, after watching Gilles struggle massively for a couple of years.

Disagree that roger should retire. He is still moving extremely well for 37 year old guy. He is faster and moves better than 99 % of the pros in ATP tour still. and that is the reason he should continue to play. Movement is #1 factor in Pro tennis among many other factors.

He was able to make the finals playing like absolute trash, so it's somewhat promising if he somehow manages to return to form

How could you be asking Federer to retire after he won a Slam this year and made two Masters finals? You must be a fair weather fan in this case.

I remember when people always said that Federer should have retired after Wimbledon 2012.

people said that thinking he could have retired on a high after his abysmal 2013 season and then ofcourse missed chances at 2014/2015 W and 2015 USO ,except if he did retire then we wouldn' have gotten the epic 2017 season that we did

Rafa was injured and couldn't defend his TITLES, he didn't opt out because he was afraid of losing like Roger lol
I don't think you understand how deep your hole is going to be by the time Nadal is 36 years old and does 10x worse than Fed at the same age.

You reap what you sow. This day will come and Fed fans are gonna be here to give you the treatment you deserve. Question is - are you?

I've been hearing Rafa will be breaking down very soon for 10 years lol. Keep thinking that Rafa is not a superior athlete to virtually any player on tour. Keep underestimating him. Rafa is a different beast.

They were premature suggestions for sure but 37 is a different beast as well

Federer's far from his best and doesn't often wow with his game like he used to, but he is still one of the best players on tour. Besides, Roger knows his game better than anyone. He'll know when the time is really up.

If Federer's poor form bothers OP so much, he or she could just stop following his matches. Although I think this was a case of saying something you don't mean because you're upset.
