Fed hinting about retirement...

I saw last night match of Fed against Nishioka.
At the same time that I was delighted to see his serves, his touches, his volleys, his shot making ability, he did not look as good to maintain a top #3 rank for many months.
He is mostly lacking of consistency.
Nole or Rafa would beat him easily today.

I thought he looked better than most of the year. Definitely better than Cinncy, which he said he was playing bad at but still managed a decent run. But agree his overall consistency has dropped this year, but seems more like interest and focus to me.

Was thinking about the timing of everything and his comments again, and could be he will time his announcement of his last year with Laver Cup, so playing 2019 and announcing that 2020 will be his farewell tour. That makes more sense really.

Interesting couple references tonight from Fed. One in the post match on court interview with Fed hinting at very soon but “not just yet” and just now his big references to Laver cup’s last year being in his home Switzerland and joking with Mac when asked about retiring saying, “hmmmm, I wonder why?”.

He also mentioned just needing that 100 singles titles at Cinncy.

Just interesting...

He said during US open interview that he absolutely has NO plans or thinking about NO retirement at this time.

Damage control. Doesn’t want to hear about it all the time.

Probably saw the forum and knew there'll be people losing their sh*t to a conversation piece. Did you hear that he may have salad for a late lunch too? OMG, he's going to be a vegetarian!

Salad, Vegetarian, hint hint hint hint. Get it? OOOOOOMMMMMGGGGG what news and look how insightful I am!

If you mean the Djokovic of yesterday or the Nadal of two days ago, begging to differ, here...

He's been hearing it constantly for like 10 years now, so it must be some kind of background noise he's pretty much used to, I guess.

Yeah, but he has never been the one to mention it. Not even in a supposedly joking manner. This seemed different to me.

I’ve studied his whole life every day because I, like, totally hate him so I know he eats meat. Fake news man. This thread is about facts not making stuff up. Go to a troll thread for that.

I thought this thread was about some idiot overreacting and trying to make a big deal out of a small conversational piece. Hmmm actually, I thought this thread was about some fool trying to gain some TT fame by offering some "insight" over a small insignificant conversational piece.

Why would you study his whole life? Don't you have better things to do?

The guy is not a Fed hater though

I love Fedal. I do not care for Djo at all. That’s a fact.

Anyway..Ii expect Fed to back track and go back to dismissing retirement talk. I will stick with Laver Cup being next year being something critical in the announcement or finish. We will see.

Off to watch Nadal.

The smart money doesn't post between sets. It buys a Rafa shirt,
goes to the restroom, does a no. 2 and wipes itself with the shirt.

.... you decided to accidentally flame repeatedly in this thread, while claiming that you only register an overreaction.

Haven’t flame anyone, but understand the angst cranial-rectal inverted Fed fanatics get when his imminent retirement comes up...especially when he says it...a few times in a day. Y’all can cling to him trying to pass it off as joking though and white knight. The rest of the adults can discuss it as to the how of it and how his legacy will effect the tennis landscape.

FYI - I had some delicious enchiladas, since you are infatuated with me and my eating habits.

I thought it was very peculiar how during the on stage interview with McEnroe and McKendry after R1, that McEnroe specifically asked a time and mentioned the Laver Cup in Geneva. Roger seemed pretty sheepish but it seemed like McEnroe knew more than he should.

He LITERALLY said the words "I have no plans to retire"

OP is fake news
Yep, you are right. Federer has to keep playing until the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo at least. One can surmise he probably wants to keep playing years beyond that as he is in good health and showing no signs of disliking Tour life, even losses to Djokovic don't damage his spirits or enthusiasm to play.

Exactly. But now you will be ostracized as a Nadal love a d Fed hater.

Sorry.

You created a thread with fake news with the intention to flame.

Deal with it.

Watched again and definitely something there, which is why I wondered if anyone else caught that. The timing if it all...not coincidence.
