Kei Nishikori, the last hope for tennis.

Kei is now the only man who can stop tennis entering the apocalypse of no major winners in their 20's. Ideally you'd want Zverev in this position as tennis' Knight in shining armor, but that wasn't to be. We must now place all faith in Kei. A player with great groundstrokes and a great return, who is sadly fragile, lacks a serve and is basically a poor mans Djokovic. However he did claim a moral win at the 2014 US open, there is hope yet.

Kei has about as much chance of winning the US open as one handed Jamie Lannister would have of taking out the hound followed by the mountain. We pray for you Kei.

I agree that Keiis the last hope, but not for the representation of the under 30s club.

He is the only one capable of stopping a Novak US Open win and I'm only clutching on to 2014 win which Novak was the overwhelming favourite. No one expected Kei to win back then as they don't expect him to win tomorrow.

If Novak wins he'll further halt Rafa#s quest to catch Roger and threaten again to overtake Rafa. It could catalyst to him dominating the game again which is not good fo for tennis at all.

So yes from that perspective, Kei is the only hope for tennis.

Didn't you know that the same guys winning almost every major tournament for like 20 years is great for the sport? So no, let's keep this going. Fedalovic should keep dominating into their 40s. They are the 3 GOATS. The young guns just can't compete with these beasts.

You’re right, but it would give the young pretenders one more year to try and win a slam without facing the ultimate humiliation of their generation.

Namely, that no man under 30 has won a singles slam.

But does that really make any sense? Because YES Kei possibly has an equal or better chance of beating Djokovic than Nadal does (even that is probably a stretch to say), and YES Djokovic would ultimately be the favorite against Nadal, BUT if Kei were to beat Djokovic, do you really think he would have a snowballs chance in hell against Nadal? Tennis is about stylistic differences and matchups, and Nadal is just a bad matchup for Nishikori. I think Kei would have a chance against Del Potro, but I don’t see how he could go through Nadal especially after handling Djokovic in the previous round. As interesting and exciting as it would be, that just ain’t gonna happen.

The forum has a point about Zverev though. His game is uninspiring and robotic. While he is right now the favored son of his generation and therefore has my support, I would have Shapovalov, Chung, or Tsitsipas over him in an instant.
Regardless, let's go Kei!

As much as I like Keith, I'm not going to root for him if Delpo loses the first semi.

Even though I think Novak's been the better player than Rafa this tournament, I still like Kei's chances against him in the SF. But I hate his chances against Rafa Nadal in a grand slam final. I don't believe for a second that he has the mental strength for that.

So I hope it's either Delpo v Kei, or Rafa v Novak.

I hope Lendl is 24 years old again and has the FH he used to have.

Hoping Kei defeats Djokovic is about as likely as my pathetic fantasy about Ivan.

My point was that Kei is basically the last obstacle in terms of a Djokovic US Open win. Most fans agree that if Rafa overcomes Delpo it will be another epic battle leaving him next to being shattered for the final. Even if he was 100% fit and in better form, it would still be a massive struggle against Novak. It is bad for the game if Novak goes back to winning all the slams

Even if Kei wins we will probably be in this position again at this time next year. Since he turns 30 in December 2019

All right, 28 year old soon to be 29 Nishikori will save us from that, and we will all be so relieved in that respect.

Tennis' death date is confirmed. 28th September, when Marin Cilic turns 30.

Let us now pray for "people's champion" Del Potro, a victory for him would allow tennis a more graceful death.
