We're having some good fun here I think. Still, you're right of course. The final can't come soon enough

Delpo needs to come out of the gates charging and blow Djoko off the courts, even if it means more unforced errors. He'll never win if he tries to play the rally game with him.

I must admit, despite the ugly situation today, I do enjoy these rare days when all of TTW comes together and puts aside fandom for a moment.

But tennis moves on: Delpo wins the 1st set, Novak takes the next 3.

Who you got. I'm thinking Novak in 4?

Yep, same. It's a boring pick but what I feel will happen. In-form Novak is a very tough match-up for Delpo (and other flat hitting players) on HC but out of respect for Delpo's grit you gotta give him a set.

Unless Novak loses it mentally (which is a remote possibility with him always) or Delpo's zoning out of his mind and hitting 30+ FH winners I don't see him beating Nole.

that's my fear and main reservation. Raucous crowd and with roof closed, noise will be amplified.

Not that Delpo can't win on his own merits, but if Djokovic is at at least a decent level for him, Delpo would really have to play the match of his life to win I think barring a mental collapse from Novak. As you said, there is a bit of a matchup issue and the slower courts indoors really suit ND.

Not totally confident after seeing Novak in some US Open finals, and also how we was pushed around by Wawrinka. But Delpo is different from Wawrinka, especially on a slower court, he's not quite as effective as SW despite having the big serve and huge forehand.

Delpo hits a very different ball from Stan who basically pushes Novak behind baseline with spin and then goes for winners, it's a big reason why Novak seems so passive against him at times. Most of the guys who troubled Novak at USO (his most consistent slam even if he has "only" two titles) hit a heavier ball than Delpo, he's more of a flat hitter like Cilic and Berdman. An in-form Novak counterpunches those type of players to death, especially on HC.

Just remember that in 2009 Serena went ballistic and lost and DelPo won a few days later. Could history repeat itself?

Yup good call. Maybe the Olympics loss is in my mind as it was on a rather similar slow (although they claimed fast lol) moderate bouncing hard court in cool conditions.

But, Novak's form was at the start of his AWOL period so I don't know.

Overall, you're right he eats up the flat hitting guys when in good form. In fact, Murray despite being a counterpuncher himself (and a bit of a "pusher" in relative terms) is one of them. Murray can only beat him mainly on faster surfaces. The USO is slower than it was in 2012. Also, del Potro while I think his peak is higher doesn't have the disrupting craftiness and variety Murray has which can bother Novak (slices etc). ND loves pace and eats it up usually. The flat pace especially. That's why I was confused about Wawrinka troubling him so much, but I think you're right it's the real heavy ball pushing him back then slapping winners. Novak seems OK against heavy (Rafa) and flat bombs (Cilic, Berd) but if you combine the 2 it's probably the recipe to beat him. Easier said than done.

Djokovic didnt lose it in 2015 final when the crowd was against him so such thing is not going to happen. He should win the match in 4 sets.Del Po form is good but it wont be enough to beat Djokovic.

Hard to imagine Delpo winning. He'll have to play one helluva match to get it done, I think. Good news for him is that he is relatively fresh. Bad news is that he's playing Djokovic who is back in form and also relatively fresh. I'm still pulling for Delpo, since it'd be great to see him win big again, but I'm mostly hoping for an entertaining, controversy-free tennis match. The best way to get that will probably be to have Lahyani and Ramos co-chair the match, so that Ramos can watch the coaches and call violations while Lahyani gets down to counsel each of them on changeovers to ensure they don't get so mad they lose a game or start tanking.

For the most part, I think you know what Novak will bring - a high level, if not yet approaching 2015/first half of 2016, which is as high a level as I've ever seen. He's not that version, and we may not see that level again, though he's been quite good. Still (speaking in generalities), Delpo's "A" game is good enough to beat anyone's, even the Djokovic of now.

Delpo, when healthy, has the massive forehand, but will his backhand just keep it in play (perhaps, not good enough today) or actually be a threat? Will his serve be on or will he give Novak a shot or two to break him each set?

I'm hoping for a strong level for both, and will feel good for either player. In truth, I'm rooting for Djkovic, though, and see it as a 55-45 proposition in his favor.

Get a controversial chair umpire. Layhani please. That's all the media wants is ratings no matter the match quality.
