Luxilon gut sale?

Reviews are pretty bad on the product page - can someone compare to tonic? Are they close? I started reading through the playtest thread but most of those guys aren't full-time gut/hybrid players.

Will be interested to know what tension you will be stringing it at. I plan on a full bed but not sure if I should go at 50 or higher. I’m concerned about too much power.

Gut/poly is great on the 93P! Been using the combo on mine for the past half year.

It's really all based on preference. Lux Gut is lower powered and a little more dampened than Babolat's Gut, but I thought it has a little better spin and durability. I like the Lux Gut better personally, and I think most people who want to try gut that are used to full poly will like it better due to a little better control, but I think most traditional gut players will prefer Babolat.

This is better than Babolat's sale last year. I bought 3 packs cause it last's me so long but i may get 3 more. Ahhhhh

I am currently using Cyclone 19 @ 44 lbs in a full bed. I was stringing 17g polys at 40-42. I also used Origin/poly at 46/42 and was pretty happy with it. I'll probably do the gut somewhere in the 46-48 and the poly around 42-44. At just over $11 a half set I'm not all that concerned about nailing the tension right out of the gate.

Thanks! I ordered some 1.25 but more importantly I ordered 20 sets of Timo 18 at $7/set it’s a steal!

I use full bed Lux 1.25 at 56# in a ProStaff 97s, along with string savers.

Au contraire, mon frère, I find Timo to be one of the best control strings I ever played with. In the 18 gauge instance, it is as supple and arm friendly as synthetic gut...when not tensioned too high. I use it as a cross with 18 gauge synthetic gut per my signature and absolutely love it. Not only does it enhance and fortify control, but it aids greatly in producing a tight spin. I was devastated when they quit making it in reels and further decimated when I heard (incorrectly according to TW) that it had been dropped from the Lux lineup.

After all your years on the boards and in all your many guises, you should know by now that "different strokes" applies to string, rackets, shoes and tennis in general.

I bought a reel of Volkl V-Feel the other day, so I feel like I'm in the same boat as you once I get a reel of Cyclone, lol.

The longest lasting will be something factory pre-stretched like Lux 4G, Kirschbaum Max power, or Isospeed Cream. I haven't put Cream into a gut/poly hybrid yet, but I've been very happy with the gut/poly hybrids with 4G or Max Power in the crosses with Lux Gut mains.

If the string is broken, time to restring. That's what I do.

That doesn't work well for all strings. With gut it does, but if you're using poly, especially if it is in the mains or full bed, it is not very wise to play until the strings break. Poly loses its playability long before it breaks.

Well, I use hybrid strings a lot, with 1.30mm VS natural gut at mains whilst timo 1.10mm at crosses.

Good point, that's why I use synthetic gut in the mains. It breaks when it should and I still get the benefit of Timo in the crosses.

The price for the gut is so good I’m thinking I might try it for the first time. Because of the normal retail price I will never pay full price in the future so do you think I should try and possibly fall in love and never be able to afford to play it again or just pass?

they are betting on the fact that this Gut will be so good to you and improve your level by 2 levels so you will be addicted and you will have to use it for the rest of your life

Received my 4 sets last night of the 1.25 mm. When I opened it, it doesn't smell anything. The 2 things I liked about Luxilon is they have a green mark which is the center of the 40 ft. So, I snapped the string right there without having to measure and cut it. Second, it comes in a great resealable bag so you can keep the other half set stored safely. Installed that along with Prince Tour XR in the crosses and hit on the wall for a couple of minutes and the feel doesn't resemble anything close to VS or Pacific tough gut I have used in the past. It feels like a top end multi. I'm hoping once I break in, the outer coating will wear off and the real feel will come to life. Otherwise, I am going to be disappointed a bit. It is still gut and offers ultimate comfort for sure.

IME, Lux gut breaks in very fast.

Whereas ToughGut takes me ~3 hours to really start playing well (that coating is indeed tough!), Lux gut is mostly broken in within an hour.

I have several rackets that I rotate so that I can let my freshly-strung rackets sit for a few weeks before hitting, to let some of the initial tension drop occur before playing with it. (This is for full-bed gut, YMMV with hybrids and poly tension drop.)

I then use my freshly-strung rackets for an hour or so to practice serves, in order to break in the gut before playing points. The string then holds pretty close to this broken-in tension for the rest of its lifetime (a month or two).

Not for me, if I use Babolat string savers.

Without string savers, ToughGut lasts longer for me than Lux Gut, maybe 1.5 to 2 times longer. I think, due to the thicker coating of ToughGut which resists sawing of the mains by the crosses (this is how my strings usually break, YMMV).

@TW Staff, if we call can we still get the Luxilon Gut deal? Granted it will be on backorder, but that's not much of an issue for me.

I usually string multis on my Babolat Pure Aero at 54 lbs. I am planning on stringing a full bed of Luxilon Natural gut, 1.25 but dont exactly at what tension? Any recommendation on the tension?
