I was careful not to be rude:D!
But I didn’t honestly think he was vastly better than you. Anyway I’m a fan of yours so it’s normal to be a little biased:). Can I add you to my list of online mentors if you don’t mind?

I am flattered! Please know I have been fed numerous bagels and bread sticks in my tennis journeys with Jarryd. He is an unbelievable player. Occasionally I get two or three games, and every once in a while maybe even four. But the fact is I’ve never won a single set. He is a world-class tennis player.

As for mentorship, we are all mere students of the mighty game!!! [emoji471][emoji462][emoji471]

Is there somewhere I can view some of your tennis videos? [emoji41]

@BounceHitBounceHit ... great hitting. Out of all the quality strokes, I like the 1hbh and volley (you have to post more volleys 8-B) the best. Good for you ... still bringing some serve.

Question on your body weight squats for hamstrings. Do you still do those daily. I haven't done as many as I should, but seems I might should not do daily. Sometimes I can feel the actual spot where I tore the left one.

Thank you for the kind words! When I’m playing my best the backhand is my second best shot only behind the serve.

As for the volley, growing up I played 100% serve and volley, both first and second serves. I got used to being around the net! [emoji6]

With regard to bodyweight squats, yes! I try to do at least five sets of 10 to 15 squats per day. I believe thats been a major factor in rehabilitating my hamstring.

Best,

BHBH

I have posted quite a few. This was from a tiebreak yesterday. I'm the one with black shirt.

Absolutely. Not quite fit actually, had a lot of injuries since starting tennis. The bad part is that I hadn't played any sports seriously or regularly before tennis so my body needs a lot of conditioning which I hadn't done until recently.

Off Court:

1. Rest what’s injured [emoji56]
2. Strength train with body weight only.
3. Discover the joy of stretching and improving flexibility via yoga.
4. HYDRATE!!!

On Court:

1. Try to bend your knees more and get lower.
2. Practice your footwork. Instead of shuffling side to side use a crossover step to recover to the bisector.

Thanks. Very good points. Actually number one thing I noticed while watching the video was not enough knee bend. Also yes, that shuffling is something I don't like, it looks as if there's something wrong with that. I was just thinking I move ugly! But maybe I move wrong rather than ugly.:p

You are not moving wrong. There are just more efficient ways, and efficiency matters a LOT at our age!

what do you think about the split squat? (body weight only)

another harder variation is the "shrimp squat" (i've been doing 5 of these on each leg a day, trying to injury proof myself... but i'm 27)

At less than half my age I’m not sure I can advise you. But I can tell you from experience doing unusually strenuous movements that may cause undue strain on tendons, ligaments, and joints should probably be avoided! [emoji56]

Best of luck to you with your tennis and conditioning!

Snowmageddon hit snow-clueless Seattle this morning. Bought an ice shovel and gloves this afternoon before returning home. Might have pulled my biceps breaking up the ice rink layer to clear an exit path for the mailtruck driver who was sliding sideways down my street.

TopspinShot with his forehand that seems to make a trip around the world before brushing the ball? Wow, is his serve that was awesome?

topspinshot beat me too
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

a vid i/we posted 5y ago... topspinshot beating me 3-6, 2-0

takeaways from that match, which i've definitely improved alot since then:
1. fh cc - i was attacking his extreme grip fh, because while very consistent, tended to give me a short ball i could approach on... but i missed it too much
2. bh - made my grip less extreme... now more traditional conti right hand, sw left hand
3. serve - added slice and flat with toss to right of my head (in vid, i only toss above or left of head allowing me to only hit an awkward flat, or more likely a top or kicker)
4. return - much more abbreviated backswing (elim loop)

@Topspin Shot serve was giving me alot of trouble,... i struggled to break him.

I remember that, it was a lot of fun. But unfortunately for you, even being rusty now, four years of college tennis improved my game a lot too. ;)

well, i presume 5y is alot of time for anyone to improve... i'd be disappointed if you were still the same... but that loss helped me get better... so i win, even if i still lose to you!

@topspinshot bends it like Beckham where "it" is all of his body - his twists and turns for serve and every other shot is unique.
and he's had 4y+ to improve, so i bet it's even better.

Great stuff. So you were mid-40s then moving like that. Man... you are beating the holy hell out of father time. Keep it up. If baby @Topspin Shot stared at me like that, there would have to be a little talk. :p Baby topspin had a some McEnroe anger management issues. hehehehehehe He also had some foot fault issues over the hash mark.

thx, but there are guys in their 50's that i play against, that move way better than that.

topspin was still a teen in this vid... mild teen angst. i'm sure i was breaking racquets at that age, and getting grounded for it. actually there are guys that i play with now (they are in their 50's) that recalled how i was as a youth (me teens & 20's them mid 30's). lol, they called me "intense" (they were being polite),... now i'm "mature, mellow and focused".

That white dressed bloke would have lost all his service games, cause he foot faulted every single serve on the deuce court. Sorry!

Nowhere in my post did I claim that I had zero passive aggressive occurrences through my 20s. ;) Lucky for my racquets, none of it taken out on them.

wooooooot, a new (old) video from @nytennisaddict

Love it!

You can quite hit from the baseline!

Seems like you were controlling and overwhelming him and were stronger from the baseline, and he kind of defended and got balls back mostly, too bad you made too many unforced errors.

But credit to him for defending well against your aggressive balls.

@Topspin Shot

Thats quite a wicked serve alltho it lacks placement, but im sure after 4 years of college tennis you improved that now, with that serve (which is maybe slightly more potent now even) and good placement off court and down the T... you are one tough player to break serve from.

So @nytennisaddict you said you made too many unforced errors (which was clear), but was that mostly a bad day at the office, or have you grown since then and what did you change or improved since then to get better consistency?

I bet both improved their 2hbhs. The best two strokes on the court were NYTA's fh (anywhere ... but really like the inside out) and Topspin's serve.

I broke a racket once. Once in my youth and once in my adulthood. Both by accident.

Unfotunately the adulthood racket was a match with my then goto racket and could not be replaced.

362 string weight Pure Drive Roddick. What a great racket that was. Now bound to play Pure Drive Tour, which are 20 grams lighter, yet they claim the same 315 g unstrung weight.

for improved consistency...

not going for such a big/flat shot all the time... these days, i take some pace off, go for more top and net clearance... still an aggressive swing, but not as flat trajectory, be more patient and wait for a better ball to attack (ie. where it's in my strike zone and i'm in balance)
conditioning, which lets me have more aggressive footwork for longer. i can stay low longer, i can focus longer, etc...
and just hitting alot more balls... specific shots (like i missed alot of cc & inside-in fh... so i spent alot of time hitting cc and inside-in fh)

<and the tweaks i mentioned above>

i've easily broken 10-15 racquets in anger. expensive lesson(s)
haven't broken/thrown a racquet in ~15y though.

Good hitting enjoyable to watch. Both of you striking the ball, makes for a good match. Should do a rematch video in hd. Any tech changes since then?

Lol yeah I was a jerk on court back then. Never broke any rackets but aside from that anything was fair game. I mellowed out over the next couple years and ended up being the one to calm my teammates down as an upperclassman.

Or an official would have called a foot fault, I would have moved a step over, and that would have solved the problem. :)

Thanks! Believe it or not, I even serve and volley sometimes now. I'm still mostly a defensive player from the baseline, but it made the game more fun once I figured out I could finish points at net.

These guys really needs to improve on their technique. It truly is the miracle of modern day rackets that these guys are able to hit the ball over the net
