The best Djokovic on Grass may not have arrived yet

He really has a chance of combining all of his best elements this year. He is showing hints of every component, They don't need to be as good as before but if he can bring together each of them he will be beyond formidable.
That is he can really be more "whole" than ever at this year's WB

Imagine a Novak with

2018 serve
2015 net play
2015 Returns
2011 Firepower
2011 movement
2011 mentality and defence

It will require the best versions of Fraud to edge him on Grass and even 2003-07 might fail. Novak will end his career with 6 WB .

And he has shown signs of each portion in past 4-5 months.

Cool. Except he doesn't actually have any of those.

Just because he's still better than everyone else doesn't mean he's as good as he used to be. He could probably get the firepower back if he wanted to, but the others are based way too much on physicality, and no matter how good a shape he's still in, he'll never be 23 again.

The only thing the 2015 version didn't have was the 2018 serve and the gap isn't much. And yet Fed took him to an epic second set tiebreak and even won it in the 2015 final. For sure Djokovic beats grandpa Fed at Wimbledon. Peak Fed? Nah. I mean it would be close but you make it sound like it's Fed who would be up against it and I think its the other way round.

Only Rafa could do that ;)

I don't think he can get his 2011 movement back, Novak is only human.

How does Novak magically get his 2011 movement back? Unfortunately for him, that's not possible, although other aspects of his game are better than they were then. I doubt he's ever going to play better on grass than Djokovic 2015.

No version of Djokovic is beating 2003-6 Federer at Wimbledon, although he'd give him a good match

I don't see him playing as well as in 2015, which I think was his best grass performance. But, he can still contend a bit more for Wimbledon. Quality grass court player...

Yes because "Peak Fed" owned Roddick, Bjorkman, Grosjean and Ancic there no chance for Peak Djoko those years also. Lol Just GTO :D:-D

Nearly 31 year old Fed beat Djokovic in 4 and nearly 33 year old Fed, who'd not made a slam final in 2 years, took him to 5. Peak Fed would've clearly won both matches. 2015 Djokovic would be closer but near 34 year old Fed was neck and neck in the first 2 sets before his level dropped. Younger Fed would not only have sustained it but would've had a higher level in the first place.

Although not sure there's much point responding given you hate Federer and make out like he's just some Murray level player who got dealt the luckiest hand in tennis history

djoko's 2015 serve was marginally better (close though) to 2018 (2nd half) serve.

Looks like the illusive CYGS is incoming. This will blast the GOAT debate wide open if he can pull it off.

It will be interesting to see how he does in 2019. It will be hard to perform as well he did in 2015/2018 or even 2011/2014 at Wimbledon.

I do think the disguise was even better in 2018. That said, he didn't play the competition he did in 2015 so maybe that makes his level look better than it really is.

maybe 1st serve is better marginally (and that too I'm not sure given lesser competition in 2018) ...I'd put it down to being "snappier" than in 2015.
but 2nd serve was better in 2015.

Nadal never defended a HC or grass slam, Federer won WB 5 times in a row.

But Rafa is allowed to have off tournaments in his prime years (2008 USO, 2011 AO,2011 USO WB 2012 -2017) but Federer can't.
relax, i'm just answered a question, nothing more, not trying to argue who's better:)

"30yo grandpa" argument is really getting ridicolous now that the youngest slam multi-champion is 32 years old.

2003-07 Federer fails to win a single Wimbledon against Nadal or Djokovic at their peak.

Henceforth, yourself and Lew could actually make extensive use of the newly made on-site energy-saving commentary-sharing option; since you guys seem to be congruent with one other in principle most of the time anyway.

Not sure why @Sport liked this but lol.

vs. good grass courters (>=2 Wimbledon titles)

Djokovic is 4-5 down on grass,
Federer leads 6-4.

Actual results tell us a different story.

Federer winning 5 in a row and reaching 7 consecutive finals lost only to Nadal 9-7 in the fifth.
Djokovic's run was stopped by Sam Querrey (Who?)

Btw, Peak Nadal on grass = 2006-2011 (2 titles and 3 additional finals) or Peak Nadal on grass = 2012-present (0 finals lol)

Nearly 32 y/o Djoko has just won his third Slam in succession and he is gunning for his second NCYGS. Your point!?

Also the nearly 33 y/o Fed was playing the 5 set in the 2014 W only because of the Djoko's mental brainfart while leading 5:2 deep in the fourth. Nothing strange about 2014 Djokovic to have some mental demons at that time since he was coming of 3 tough loses in Slam finals in a row and 2 tight 5 set loses against Wawrinka (2014 AO) and Rafa (2013 RG).;)

So Fed was playing at convenient time for him at 14 WB against mentally fragile version of Djokovic, but he couldn't finish the job anyway. :D
