Djokovic should have won that match. Nadal even got a dead net cord winner in one of the tie breaks if I recall correctly
"Should have won"? No. Luck is part of tennis. Djokovic was also a bit lucky at Wimbledon 2018, when Nadal had break point in the last set and decided to approach the net like a crazy allowing Djokovic to make a (fantastic) passing shot. Djokovic also had a bit of luck in his favor in the USO 2011 SF, when he tried that "all or nothing" return winner against Federer. Nadal was also a bit lucky with Djokovic's volley failure at RG 2013 or with his victory over Federer in Rome 2006.

By "luck" I only mean very little details which decide a match that could have gone either way.

Here's mine

The best three set match between Nadal and Djokovic, and the best three set match I have seen on clay ever.

Great match. Who was the little kid at the end who was tapping on Nadals arm, hugging and making poses with Nadal? That was odd.

Australian Open 2009 FINAL. I just can't stop watch highlights. Truly Top 3 ever.
Australian Open 2012 SF. Probably top 3 4-setters match ever.
Wimbledon 2001 FINAL. Still painful after all these years.
Us Open 2010/2011 SF. Classics.
Us Open 2015 FINAL. I still have nightmares. 4/23..however it was very creative match
Indian Wells 2011 QF. Nadal vs Karlovic. Best baseline match of Dr.Ivo career.
Australian Open 2005 SF. Never before or after I ever seen Safin so focused.

You meant IW 2011 for Nadal-Ivo.

I don't really re-watch any full tennis matches. I actually find it kind of weird to go back and watch a match over again other than the occasional highlights and the only full match i have ever sort of re-watched was the classic Nadal v Rosol 5 set Wimbledon match where Rosol dismantled him in the 5th set. Because who doesn't enjoy watching Nadal get beaten?

I've watched the highlights of Murray v Djokovic Australian open 2012 semi final a few times tho so for the sake of the topic. I will say that.

I see you can be bothered quoting me when you feel Nadal has been slighted but not when I've exposed your ridiculous double standards.....

Yes there are bits of luck here and there as well as players choking, Nadal was on the wrong end vs Kyrgios recently. Point is this was a match I'm sure Djokovic felt he definitely could have won and made some mistake on

Don't take it personally, I typically stop replying (or even reading messages) after long discussions. I remember we have had long debates sometimes, but after interchanging 5 or 6 messages I usually give up and talk to another user or visit another thread.

Hard to say, really. As I’m a Fed fan, I’ll go with Wimbledon 2008 and AO 2009. Some of those US Open chokes were also pretty painful.

The Wimbledon 2009 F was also super painful.

Wimbledon 2018, too. I was rooting for Djokovic to take that one but switched sides in the middle of the match. Too bad there has to be a winner and a loser in a match.

Almost makes me wish that match could end up as a tie and move Nadal/Djokovic to the doubles final so they can both grab the trophy.

Almost.

These kind of matches happen most in 30’s .

So Djokovic fans don’t worry . You will get your fill even though the next gen is useless and the next to next gen is pathetic

I don't take it personally I just think when someone exposes you contradicting yourself to serve a particular argument, you ignore it. Case in point

30 years old is a prime/optimal age to compete (unless a particular player is injured or in very bad shape). The greatest sportsmen of all time keep dominating their sport in their early 30s.

Federer defeated non-prime 30 years old Nadal (a clay specialist) at the AO 2017. Nadal defeated prime 26 years old Djokovic (hard court GOAT) at the US Open 2013.

:D:laughing:

lol Sport is really the worst.

It's a shame because a lot of Sport's posts are fair, but he/she just use one argument like a sledgehammer in multiple threads over and over again and argue for their life with that point.... then weeks/days later use the exact opposite of it and argue that to the death. The common denominator? Side with Nadal.

When called on it? just ignore it and continue to use the same arguments and argue them to the death. I mean at least drop the argument now you've been found out

Lots of "young posters" here apparently ;).

Mine would be the 1984 FO final between Mac and Lendl. I have nothing against Ivan and I have a huge respect for him, but when I rewatch this match (a TRUE classic btw...), I still believe that Mac is going to win it in the end. But it never happens...

I Only have seen RG 13 full match once when it was live, but have watched the highlights multiple times since then. I turn off the video at 4-3 40-all 5th set and feel good. For me Djokovic was the real FO finalist of 2013.

Yes, I've never re-watched any full match. I did re-watch the entire 5th set of the 2014 Wimbledon final (a result I find painful to this day), and wrote down every single error Federer made in losing that set. I no longer have the notes!

That apparent contradiction is explained by the fact that I changed my mind. I initially thought players in their early 30s are in their prime. I no longer hold that view. And it is not a double standard since I apply the same criterion for everybody: yes Federer was NOT at his prime at age 30.

I would say 28-32 is near-prime. Not prime, but still a good age to compete. From 33 onwards is when players significantly drop their level in my opinion.

I haven't watched the whole match again but it would be 2013 RG as far as the highlights reel goes. I still hate to watch that 4-3 game in the 5th set though. Lol.

For some odd reason, i used to keep re-watching the WTF09 SF between Federer and Davydenko, the result just didn't bother me as much, even though i wouldn't identify myself as a big fan of Davydenko's.

I've watched highlights of the RG '13 semifinal a few times but I wouldn't say I watch it over and over, not that I'd necessarily consider it the match that hurts the most anyway.

2012 AO final. Some of the best hitting I’ve ever seen, and you knew both guys were leaving it all out there. But my heart was eventually broken when Rafa lost it.

I don't really rewatch tennis matches. If I have time, I'd rather watch live tennis - or at least matches I haven't seen before.

This being said, it would probably be the Wimbledon 2008 final. Or maybe, funny as it may sound, the 2009 one. As much as I wanted Fed to win, and as much as I am delighted that he did, I felt really bad for Roddick at the end, losing in the matter that he did.

It was a Rocky moment lol. Kinda like if I had jumped in the ring and posed with Shawn Michaels after he beat Bret at Mania 12 :)

For me it's the 2005 UO final. I was more torn in that match than probably any match ever, but in my heart I wanted to see Agassi pull it off. Such great hitting in that match too as we all know. 2nd would be 2001 Wimbledon final pulling for Rafter and switching to Ivanisevic. Such an emotional rollercoaster that was. 3rd would be 2008 Wimbledon final and 4th would be 2011 UO SF Fed/Djok.

Ha, that match really annoyed me ... we had tickets to see the final and got to see Davydenko instead of Fed.
