This is a fluke Super Upset loss. This year this is a very deep vastly improved team due to the fact that Geller is playing at Top 50 ATP tour level now. and new guys are playing at top ATP 100 level. so that is why Kumar has to play #5. This should be super scary to all the teams in NCAA
I would have to disagree. They actually do not have _that_ much of talent on the team compared to other top college teams. They are undersized, holding a serve is a struggle for anyone but Axel and Alex. Sameer gets the job done by brain alone, and volleying skills, I have no idea how he wins. They court#5 player is interesting - huge serve, huge shots from both wings - but he is just a freshman so maybe next year. So essentially they get doubles point - they have a shot.
Sameer has very good under-rated serve. Also when he is serving well he places it well and changes spin and placement with disguise. He is acutally one of the best servers on the team. and Alex isn't huge guy either and he doesn't have a big serve but what he has done is perfect that serve and forehand combination. His strategy is serve and force a short return and crush the next ball in the corner, preferably with forehand.

I will put Sameer as the 2nd best server on the team right after Axel. you can ask this to coach Goldstein yourself and he will agree.
Well, to be fair, my argument is that if they are highly ranked recruits how come almost no one even tries to make it as a pro? I agree that this current team has talent at #1, #2, and possibly at #5 - but the rest of the team I'm not so sure about. I mean they are not bad, definitely top-15 team in the country but we are talking championship chances here. They got decimated on back courts by Virginia, and I'm afraid that will be the pattern when playing against any top team. I certainly do hope though.....
I think Axel Geller is coming along nicely, he is much better player than last year. Beside, now they have the Best coach in NCAA, Paul Goldstein at the helm. He can take any talent to #1 in ATP tour.

Geller has made the right changes to his game. Serve technique has improved (save his shoulder) and he is playing much more patient. Guy is talented, I’ll give you that.

Mostly blue chip American players. They dont' have high powered professionals from Europe like some D1 colleges do. but they will still win the NCAA in may. No worries

yes, not a good weekend for cardinal. But it was mostly due to long layoff. Spring break is now over and it is time to learn from these loses and get back on the winning ways. Cardinal will go Undefeated all the way into the NCAA tournament final and will Win it all. GO CARD, Fear the Tree.
