The inescapable breakdown of Nadal's body

Tendonitis. wear and tear etc. It cant just be fixed with rest or surgery. He has tried resting it pretty much most of his career at certain points, but it just keep coming back more frequently as he ages.
I know this feeling all too well, as I used to do a particular physical job, that after 6-7 years of doing the same grind, my knee joints were starting to ache. But after I left the job my knees were fine. I know that if I went back there tomorrow, though, that in a few weeks time, id start getting pains.

His doctor and he have announced that the issue has been resolved a long time ago. It is like 5 years since he had any results attributed to/blamed to his knees. Before you start explaining how clay is friendlier surface, remember that it is not only this year, and also remember that they have been doing these treatments for ages before that.

If he starts running like a rabbit (which we know that he will) during the clay court season Nadal is officially the biggest joke to ever set foot on any sports arena.

I think with prize money it basically depends on when you lose, not when you win (unless you win the title.) If they wanted to discourage walkovers maybe the fee for winning your last match can be less than losing your next match through walkover?

At this point, ranking is less important. As much as im dying to see him play a gazillion more matches bc I can never get enough Rafa..... If it was up to me, this year I'd only have him play MC, Rome, FO, Wimby for the next 3 mos. Screw Barcelona and Madrid. Nadal is really getting too old to be playing 4 clay events BEFORE the FO.

Disclaimer: Fed is my guy.

I think Nadal should take a page from Federer's book. Fed took 6 months off in '16 and has never shown signs of that injury recurring. Nadal has had this recurring knee thing for how long now? I'm not a doctor but I think he should take an extended period of time off so that the knee will fully heal. Then he should be selective about his yearly schedule. He might not be able to earn enough points to hold #1 but he may be able to extend his career in years and GS total to Fed territory. I don't want to see him exceed Fed but I don't want to constantly see him go lame in the middle of a match.

A page from Federer's book ????? Rafa took 7 months off (from the middle of 2012 until Febr. 2013)! Then Fed's supporters were falsely claiming that Rafa was absent from the tour due to receiving a silent ban. They became quieter after Rafa won his defamation case against former French health and sports minister Roselyne, who said the same on TV. Mrs. Roselyne said she just repeated what she had read somewhere.

Fed devotee, don't cheat readers. Rafa has retired & withdrawn many times due to knee problems during the last 16 - 17 months.

Jealousy? Jealous how?
Jealous of what?

I'm genuinely interested to hear the answer
17 Majors in the prime of two ATGs Djokovic has 15 in same time and Federer 7 so past 11 years has been painful for Federer fans. Compare Federer pre 2008 to post 2008.

Nadal has more masters 1000. Nadal has superior h2h which outdoors is almost embarrassing as its 22-9 i think. Nadal has multiple Majors on each of the three surfaces. Nadal has singles Olympic Gold.

Then we also have Djokovic as well that distresses many Federer fans. he has many amazing achievements but his holding of all 4 Majors at once arguably propels him to GOAT already.

Add all of the above up and you get alot of bitter jealous federer fans sadly.

So what are you saying—that he keeps taking enough time off for his knee to heal?

Question is Will RAFA have lighter schedule during this clay season to be 100 % for sure at Paris ? I think lighter schedule might be better for RAFA like Skipping the Italian open would be Optimal. and Avoid Novak til French open time.
No way. He will play every clay tournament with the exception of Madrid. Even for Madrid he is more likely fo play than not.

Good Lord. Ok, I think Nadal should take a page out of his own book, and in addition to that I think he should consider reducing his schedule, like Federer. What do you think about that? Feel better now?

Poor Rafa. His mind is willing but his body is not. It worked too much. I went for a 16km mountaineering walk in the hills yesterday. And there was a man who is 94 and we finished the trail on a very good pace together. I am 37. Fed reminds me of this man. You can say he's old but his body and will say otherwise. Hope Rafa can take a page from Fed's book too and continue to play. But these frequent injuries are definitely not a good sign before RG 2019. If Novak is healthy and in the zone, Rafa doesn't stand a chance.

No, your analysis is one big joke. Did you not read what I said?
I can go out tomorrow and sprint round a track, play tennis for hours etc, but it doesn't mean that I don't have any joint injuries, that feel fine when im not grinding on a tennis court.
I guess you don't understand...

Rafa played only 9 tournaments last year. Fed should reduce his schedule, like Rafa.

That's because of his injuries. Can you read and comprehend? My suggestion was to get healthy and cut back on his tournaments, like Fed. How do you even make this into an argument? You're a complete waste of bandwidth.

We have seen it enough times already. Be sure his knees will be fine when next clay season comes around. Even Djokovic will struggle to stop him then. However it might be true he has started "saving his body" like Fedr to have long career in thirties.

He did it again. It is funny we are talking about inevitable breakdown of his body since 2009. But he every time he comes back strong and wins French open. It's amazing he has managed to fool all of us for decade now. He takes "injury break" once in two years post USO, skips bunch of hard court tournaments and we start talking about his fall. Next year he recovers from "injury", looks unbeatable as ever again On clay. He has taken post USO break in 2009, 12, 14, 16 and 18. With exception of 2015, every time he had strong multi Slam years after taking break. (2010, 13, 17 and 18). It's a clear pattern. When he is sitting out - expect a great next season for Nadal.

I've been hearing same story since he was 17 and injured out.
It's his innate knee and ankle problem he was born with.

There is a simple explanation to the reccurring scenario: there never were career threatening injuries. Niggles that flare up from time to time enough to penetrate the thin veil of delusion cast by Tio over the puppet's mind that he is invincible, if everything is right. That is it.

I can't help but feel really sorry for the guy, in the past 12 months...

Retires from Paris with knee injury
Retires from WTF with knee injury
Skips Brisbane due to knee injury
Retires from AO with hip injury
Skips Acapulco due to hip injury
Skips IW due to hip injury
Skips Miami due to hip injury
Retires from USO due to knee injury
Skips Beijing due to knee injury
Skips Shanghai due to knee injury
Withdraws from Paris due to abdominal injury
???????
And yet he played the AO this year although with an extremely disappointing result, more injuries, and now he's back with another RG. This guy has more lives than a cat!

A more pertinent question is: has the Nadal whined about the extend of his health issues so that the tennis authorities think that they might lose him if they don't go easy on him, thus allowing him all the things he got away with during the years?

I think that the answer to that might be "yes".

If so, how much will they like his grin if he gets what he wants and laughs in their faces, because, rest assured, it is coming, if he is successful. The statement from his post match press conference clearly shows his intentions.

What things? I am genuinely curious. The big three hold equal influence. I am sure we can find 'examples' everywhere. All of Fed, Rafa and Novak have bent rules.

When I first started watching Rafa at the beginning of his career, I thought like many others that he would not have a long career because his body would break down because of how he played.

Turns out I was both right and wrong. Because of his all-out style, he does seem more prone to injury than many others. What I had not counted on was his being able to heal and recuperate between injuries, and coming back strong each time. This pleases me.

We all have our favorites. Rafa is mine. And before him, Sampras. Who will be next? I don't know. That Tsitsipas is kinda cute.
