For the record: I disapprove of St. Nick's outburst, but I don't look past it, as I know that he will get severely punished.

BTW, funny thing is some decades ago entire groups of players tanked/didn't participate on entire surfaces, and that was pretty normal. Nick doesn't want to grind on clay and is generally disinterested in playing to the tune of the every tournament organiser and he gets flack for it. The people should get it: as long as he doesn't hurt anyone and gives it a go from time to time, he is free to do whatever he thinks best. Just because he didn't learn to do it in a more agreeable way doesn't mean that he shouldn't do it.

fyi if he wants to do it fine, i just think sometimes nole tries a bit hard and saying that isn't the end of the world nor is it a slight on his character. imo he's done other things that yes are probably warrant more criticism. also since nole fans need that validation, no i dont hate it, and no its not the worst thing ever

Not a couple of days ago a substantial part of Djokovic's fans around here were singing the "Djokovic doesn't care about the M1000 tournaments anymore" tune. I have a feeling that what you are saying is not absolute.

Anyway, "should" is a funny concept. I wonder how many people on this site "give it a go all the time" in their line of work.

Please tell me that Nole did his post match celebration today. He better had done it. Lol

The only people strongly appalled by his celebration are people who don't like seeing him win. You can add Kyrgios to that list. I actually don't like the celebration and after RG 2016 and he was still doing it, I was like WTF. However, it's his thing and it makes him happy and he's just one of those people who loves to feel connected to people so it's like whatever. The real cringe is Kyrgios though because from his comments he went really personal and you can just smell the jealousy and envy in them, and disdain because he can't be in that position or be that legendary.

I don't care what kind of weird act Novak is doing, but .... what exactly is he "giving" to the spectators by doing it, or, rather, what more he is giving that a normal celebration doesn't?

Talent is not what Kyrgois is lacking - although he's not nearly as talented as some believe. What Kyrgois is lacking is what the great American sport journalist Howard Cosell called "intestinal fortitude"; the ability to continue to stand and fight even when the battle is not going your way. McEnroe, despite his bad behavior, was a fighter both mentally and physically on the court. Kyrgois ... not so much.

Could someone familiar with the code explain to me what he did wrong? I see players talking to the crowd all the time. Same with racquets. He didn't even break his, as far as I could see. I think there was a wasp on that chair, which is why he tossed it.

He wasn't defaulted--he QUIT!, after throwing everything he could get his hands on without regard to the safety of those nearby--packed his bag, and walked off. He nearly hit a seated lines lady with his violent racquet throw, he was throwing everything he could get his hands on with NO REGARD for where they were landing or care for who they may injure, potentially seriously. The commentator said he thought the outburst was precipitated by fan interaction--as they say when in Rome--they were playing a tennis match, when a soccer game broke out.

He had his chances, no?

Besides, if Novak plays long enough ...... like, when he is 37, he will surely get to play St. Nick at some point, no?

At least people have to concede him he was doing his best tennis wise. He was back in the match after that second set, and honestly the crowd management this tournament has been abysmal. well, this tournament is just terrible for a variety of reasons.

Of course his behaviour cannot be excused or whatever, but a bit of perspective helps this time
