Still can't believe Fed pulled it off.
Coric was the stronger and better player. Federer just stayed stable to push it to tiebreaker
At the end it's just one point difference

I don't dislike Coric but wouldn't want to watch him too much though a nice contrast in styles when he plays someone like Kyrgios

Aw, come on. :) Fed's the most beloved tennis player in the history of the sport and transcends nationality. You know that from being a Roddick fan and watching A-Rod have 30% crowd support at the US Open against Roger. And those matches were played before Roger became a legend.
Don't think Roddick-Federer matches in the US were super pro Federer at all.

Not really.
On top of my head, Roddick won 152 points in his loss to JJ in USO 04 qf. JJ won 128 points.
Wow. Indeed, a 5 setter in which "A pumped-up Roddick won 28 consecutive points on his serve as he squared the match" would make for an imbalance.

Fabio and Tsitsipas are both great players, so losing to either of them won't hurt.

But I hope it will be Fabio the one he loses against.

As someone already said, the right thing to do would be to pull out. He has nothing more to prove here (to himself or to others) and would be jeopardising his form and health going forward.

He can go with clear conscience that he has given some to the crowds and that he is mentally ready for RG.

Any other decision will be a mistake.

You've got to be kidding right? With the storybook career that Fed has had, this match is not even in the top 20 of his most memorable matches.

Nonetheless, an amazing effort. He's going to be 38 soon, but his competitiveness is inspirational. Really, tennis would be so much poorer once Fed hangs his racquet.

Just because Federer won this one even when he was physically in no condition, he even said during the post-match interview, "I gave him the chance (to win) and he didn't take it so I'll take it". Basically I think he meant he still played when he was not physically 100% but Coric didn't beat him. Federer used all his trick to beat this tricky player and from that perspective, the circumstances and all that and his age, this will go down as one of the most memorable matches which showed how versatile and talented Federer is.

Fognini will have a hard time vs him if Fed is physically okay. I think the difference in serve quality is just way too big.

Tsitsipas I think will normally beat Fed on clay.

Agree on what you said about Fognini, also think Tsitsipas should be the favorite right now against a tired Federer, but who knows.

Who do you think will win between tsitsipas and fabio?

Sadly I think Tsitsipas. Fognini doesn't do very well vs good serve+1 players and he doesn't take care of his own serve enough vs bad returners at all.
