Those folks on 'Bellevue Ave' (Newport) would know. Connors sort of broke the stodgy 'good-ol-day's mold (of Stan Smith and the like) heading into the mid-70's with his hustling manager Bill Riordan and their winner-take-all challenge matches (often hustling challenge matches outside the formal tour schedule) .....and then came Borg: separate tennis racquet contracts for the U.S. market (Bancroft) and Europe/World (Donnay) to go along with his separate footwear contracts as well: in the U.S. Tretorn (ironically and originally a Swedish company prior to Puma buying them) and Diadora in Europe/World. His duds? He single-handedly turned Fila into must-have threads (Villas-n-Fila was sancho panza to borg's don quioxte). Guy was a teeny-bopper god (i.e. in tennis circles). The "my favorite male tennis idol!" salivating ******* of today (esp. on these boards) present a different dynamic in that they appear to be primarily males....and primates (rim-shot cheap shot). . : ) The 'boy crazy' Borgbots on the other hand were gushy and mush-y fans of the 'distaff' persuasion. And cut the faux, coy wallflower act--back in the day had that young golden viking been within reach, you'd have been draped all over him like Spanish moss on a tree....own it : )

6. Stefanos Tsitsipas
8. Juan Martin Del Potro
13. Borna Coric
14. Gael Monfils
I don't think Roger will lose to any others unless he's seriously out of form during the match (e.g. playing even worse than that first set against Coric over a large stretch of the match).
Depending on the draw I think Roger can end up as going out as low as R4 and as high as SF.
There is a 25% chance that he avoids everyone in that list until the SF. A dream draw for seeds would be the likes of Edmund - Basilashvili - Zverev in R3 - QF.

It's totally dependent on what form Fed is on any given day. He is still capable of playing 2012/2017 level a few times a year. He still can play at that level for a few games (or even an entire set), and then revert to 2013 form with no warning (think Goffin match at the 2017 YEC). He will need a high, sustained level to defeat Tsistipas or Thiem in a BO5 format, but he can do it. But he would need a 2006 clay level to come close to either Nadal or Djokovic. I don't expect he'll go far enough in the draw to meet either. A QF result would be gold at his age.

Fed’s first Best of Five on clay since 2015 is going to be extremely challenging. I am looking forward to it.
Quite honestly, a R16 appearance at RG will be a good result. Fed only managed a QF at RG in 2015 and R16 in 2014. Since then, Fed has aged 4-5 years and has had knee surgery to boot. Toss in the rust of not having played RG in 4 years and you get an impossible tourney for the Maestro.

That high sustained level will work against those young stalwarts only if they play slightly below par. Federer doesn’t have the stamina to play 4+ hours, that too on the dirt. He would have to get it done in 4, otherwise even winning the match would provide him with no sort of advantage for the next round.
Regarding Djokodal, do you believe that they are playing well enough that one of Roger’s top 3 RG forms would be required to beat them? I don’t. He can’t play like that anymore, so I suppose it’s a futile exercise. I really can’t wait for the French, the week before a slam is always the worst.

The good news is that win or lose, he doesn't allow matches to go that long anymore.
The last time he played a 4 hour match was probably Anderson at Wimbledon. And that's not a circumstance that's likely to repeat on clay.

I completely agree with you, but knowing Roger’s luck, I’m pretty sure he’s gonna draw Coric in R4 and Tsitsi/Thiem in QF. The dream draw is reserved for Nadal.

He wont be facing thiem unless they both make it to a final, atleast idont think so. Pretty sure no.3 and no.4 get placed in opposite halves

I'm trying to remember who beat him the last few years he was playing the french open and I think they were tsonga, gulbis, and stan but idk how they are doing at the moment. i know stan has been struggling but I'm always cautious of him. idk if the other two

Tsonga has recently returned from injury (lost R1 in Rome to Fognini). Gulbis just got trounced by Zverev 2 and 1 in Geneva yesterday.

I wouldn't say I have "zero" expectations, because if he lost in the first or second round, it would be disappointing. I think he'll do better than that and depending on the draw, a QF result would be fabulous. My goal for clay season for Roger was netting 400 total points. So far, he's at 360 points, so clay has been a win, as long as he doesn't get injured in the next 2 weeks, God forbid.
