Federer doesn’t have the stamina to play 4+ hours, that too on the dirt.

He's not going to play any 4 hour matches unless it's the final. He will win or lose any earlier match long before it reaches 4 hours. The 2011 FO final went 3 hours and 40 minutes and it would have been 3 hours had Nadal not been allowed to take 35-40 seconds between many points.

Regardless, still close to 4 hours, even though the fourth was a bit of a drubbing from 'Dal. His match against Tsitsipas was close to four hours, that was is in Australia where the courts have been sped up, at least compared to 2009-2013. I think if his returns misfire, he will have no option other than to coast on serve, meaning tiebreakers. You and all the other fans have seen his return game take a drastic hit compared to just as little as 2 years back, so not exactly a negligible option that partaking in long matches is a wash. Let's see.

Since Feds comeback he has been dealt some ridicolously tough draws at slams, baring Wimbledon last year...

AO17 - Berdych - Nishikori - Murray - Wawrinka - Djokovic(Nadal)
W17 - Dimitrov - Raonic - Djokovic - Murray/Nadal(Cilic)
USO17 - del Potro - Nadal (back2back whilst injured)
AO18 - del Potro - Djokovic - Nadal
USO18 - Djokovic - Nishikori - Nadal
AO19 - Tsitsipas - Cilic - Nadal - Djokovic

*in bold is what his actual route was/had to be to win the tournament.

Now of course he didn't have to face Nadal at Wimbledon or the USO (he would have if he'd taken those set points in the third vs delPo), or Djokovic-Nadal at the Australian last year (their fault, not Feds). But his actual route for these slams has been tough, and would have been both times at the US for example (had he beaten Millman and del Potro). I would love an easy draw for a change, take those 720 points or so and onto grass.

Fedr's interview in regards to Halle19:

[
Interview with Roger for the Gerry Weber Open

Mr. Federer, with which expectations are you going into the 27th Gerry Weber Open?

RF: When I look at the entry list I get the impression that it is becoming more and more difficult to win this tournament. It is a great entry list - with Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, Kei Nishikori and myself from the Top 10. And with more top players of who we all know in the scene that they are possible to win such a Cup anytime.

This year you already play for the 17th time in Halle, a remarkable number with which you are the record player here.

RF: That is of course also a manifestation of my connection to this tournament, to this venue, to the people who make this competition possible. It has been a fantastic development for the tournament over all those years. I was already here early in my career, I remember how I drove with the car to Halle. I feel like a part of a big family here and I can say that everyone from my own family always felt extremely good here. Later on also my kids who enjoyed the special flair outside of the big metropols here. It was always a bit sad for them when they lately couldn't be here.

The grass tournament got a big increase, also with the upgrade into the 500er ATP series.

RF: It was impressive to see how everything changed over the years - without damaging the character of the tournament. It is still a tournament which makes it easy for us players. With the short ways, the good practice abilities. You basically look from your hotel room on the Center Court - where else do you find this? Adding to this they have an ideal date in the calendar with the middle week of the end of the French Open and the beginning of Wimbledon.

What makes grass tennis that special for you?

RF: Well, the season highlight - which is Wimbledon. And that extraordinary, exclusive competition character goes basically for the whole grass season. You are forced as an athlete to switch within a short time to a totally different playing character and to new orientate. Even though many matches meanwhile don't show anymore the former grass court game with much attacking game you still depend more on reflexes, intuition and just a quicker reaction. That is something which I always liked.

Now the tournament made headlines after the insolvence of the title sponsor, the Gerry Weber International AG. How did you see this development?

RF: Of course I was worrie. I think there is no player on the whole tour who doesn't wish that the tournament continues. But there is the confirmation now that it continues in the future. The Gerry Weber Open stand for a big history in tennis. I often said in the last years that I don't know how you can still make the tournament much better. I am going to help in any case as much as I can. At this opportunity I want to remind of my lifetime contract which makes sure that I will only play in Halle during that tournament week.

There is the question then: How long is Roger Federer going to play?

RF: I don't think of a concrete time. There are a lot of speculations regarding this topic but they are all not true.

No doubt! I mean, Fedfans persevered thru almost 5 years for #18, and mainly bc of a peak-Ultron. Fedr was older-er in 2012, and he's still older-er now. But Ultron is no longer peak. It's only been one year since Fedr's last triumph, and he's still playing well at almost 88yo. :D

Fed had some interesting comments about Djoker and Rafa yesterday:

“Djokovic's beaten him many times on clay, beat him once in Paris as well. He's maybe the only guy right now that has the chance to stand up against Nadal. He's not going to beat Nadal on clay like some other players being really aggressive and just hitting winners through Nadal. He can stand up there and beat him physically which maybe he's the only guy that can actually to do it on clay. The French Open is going to be the most difficult Grand Slam grand to win I think. But if he plays his best tennis as he did in Melbourne in the final against Rafa, [where] he just crushed him then of course he can beat him on clay as well.”

This one should go in the Djoko news thread.

I worry about Schwartzman if that's his opponent in round 4 but he should be able to make it through the first 3 rounds without killing himself. It's too early to guess beyond that.

^ The organisers don't want Fed winning more and running out his slam lead, they want this "slam race battle for goathood" storyline and Fed has been threatening to ruin it. They got worried after he won two in 2017 and the other guys were at sea
This has been the case since about 2010.
Since then I cannot remember when Nadal had a relatively tougher draw at any slam compared to Fed but too many instances of shocking/unbelievable cake draws for Nadal.

the narrative is becoming abundantly clear: Majors race at any cost. AO 2017 also wasn't supposed to be Federer's, considering the draw, but he a kind of disappointed them, same for AO 2018 and in the past several years Nadal received unprecedented draws already several times, It is almost like they are afraid that he won't get "there" on time for the final Feuerwerk.
I'm never one to believe in conspiracy theories, but I actually have come to believe this. Nadal's draws at this point are predictably laughable. And Fed's are unduly difficult, bordering on insanely hard (AO 2017, USO 2017).

Me thinking before the draw "Nadal is gonna a get a bunch of nobodies so that he is fresh as a daisy for the SF and F". After the draw, me go "Voila". No surprises there.
