Rafa's confidence and net game will translate very well. I agree.

Lmao. He hasn’t made it past the SF of Wimbledon since 2011, and last years SF was only due to uncharacteristicly hot temperatures in London.

It ain’t gonna be like that this year.

I think it's connected. I never understand why people say a guy is mentally tired but not physically (no offence). Physical tiredness should in theory lead to mental tiredness and maybe even vice versa, though I have no statistical evidence of this theory.

I can point to instances in the past where I've just had enough mentally even though I was perfectly fine physically - can call it frustration maybe?

Nadal lost 3 sets in the last three French Opens.

Let that sink in.

Wow, you finally win a set and then... 6-1 3-0.

I said at the start of the third it would be the most important game of the match (Thiem's service game) and I wasn't wrong.

Thiem can trade with Nadal no doubt about it but over 5 sets he has too many dips and too many 3 or 4 game meltdowns. Nadal just plays hard the whole time and that's the difference. If Nadal has a rotten game he moves straight onto the next one as if nothing happens. With Thiem, he struggles to get out of a rut for quite some time.

Nole would have lost as well. It is getting ridiculous. Dude is winning RG when I was freaking 12. I am a 27 year old grandpa and he STILL is winning RG and will likely do so for a few years.
I think Nole would have put up a bigger fight

Yep, keep barking. You are the AndyM of the Federer fans. Don't bother replying.

How am I the AndyM of Fed fans? Plenty of people agree with what I’m saying.

You’re trying to characterise me as a lunatic just so you can avoid my requests for evidence of your false statements.

Put up or shut up

Nadal's got it in the bag
Imagine...Thiem is supposed to be the best on clay (after Nadal)...and he still barely made a match of it.
He didn't play a bad match....could probably beat all the others....but nowhere close to beating Nadal
Best on clay overall has nothing to do with matchup. Also as long as Thiem cannot even win best of 3 tier 1 on clay, he is not 2nd best no matter what.

I personally think Nadal and Djokovic will both tie or pass Fed unless he somehow finds a way to stay a moving target.

The tour is just not convincing me otherwise. RAFA not even at his best today and it’s still been pretty straightforward.

As for Egg he is the favorite in every other slam for the conceivable future.

Prepare for squeaky bum time at Wimbledon

I understand a lot of what you're saying, but this part here has more to do with it being clay IMO. We've seen Nadal lose pretty regularly playing below average on the other surfaces. Delpo at the USO after he was pushed by Khachanov, Basilashvili and Thiem (so a cumulative effort), Cilic at AO 2018, and a host of guys at Wimbledon in every year except 2018.

So this has almost everything to do with the surface and not how weak the tour is IMO (and I agree it's definitely not the strongest).

Where in my post did I mention that he will reach a particular round at the Wimbledon? I merely mentioned that his game will translate well. Really, I am a very practical fan.

yep, there's a reason people who call nadal a "pusher" or "moonballer" never provide any data to support such claims - data flies directly in the face of any such claims

for example, in this match, at this point:
winners - 32 to 25 nadal
net points - 21 to 13 nadal
he's the attacking player in this match

i've provided the australian open average forehand and backhand miles per hour data from several years ago several times in the past on talk TW (the only such data i'm aware of - will find it again shortly), and it supports nadal being a bigger hitting baseliner than federer (especially off the backhand wing)

but data doesn't matter to people who like to try to take away from nadal's incredible accomplishments, and who are probably in most instances absolute garbage athletes and 3.5 tennis players themselves who barely understand tennis

here's the AO data i was talking about:
http://on-the-t.com/2016/11/26/aoleaderboard-forehand-speed/
http://on-the-t.com/2016/10/22/aoleaderboard-backhand-speed/

forehand: nadal > djoko > fed
backhand: djoko > nadal > fed

who's the pusher again?

someone show me data where nadal is objectively a "pusher" or "moonballer" - i'll wait :)

Thiem on fire. Sampras like serving.
Saves 3 BPs.

Match is still open. Thiem to break it seems, as Nadal gets the YIPS.

When did Nole put up a bigger fight in an RG final? Losing in four sets is his best performance. All the rest is minor detail. No one went to the distance with Ned in an RG Final, not even Nole.

Because it doesn’t translate well. I’m just explaining why it appeared that way last year :)

Cilic in that 2018 match was really smart with his serve. Other than Fed or maybe Kyrgios I dunno who has served that well against him, but I haven't watched a whole lot of matches.

Kinda surprised we haven't seen more of the wide slice on the deuce side against him honestly.
