Top 5 favourites for WB?

Cilic has slumped out of the top 10 so no.

I wish it were otherwise, but after much hyping of various NextGenners it'll be a B3 again, toss up between Federer and Djokovic.

Novak is the one I fear the most, thus I would put him as the favorite to win WB.

3 reasons:

1. Federer 38 years old.

2. Djokovic defeated Federer back to back in the Wimbledon 2014 and Wimbledon 2015 finals.

3. Djokovic is the current champion of Wimbledon.
Hi Sport, your confidence in Djokovic is logical, he is the number one player in the world, but when I think about Djokovic in the last few months I see a lot of mediocre play (mediocre for him, I mean) interspersed with some very high quality play and I just feel uncertain of what his actual level is. He seems inconsistent. What do you think about that?

Who do you see as favourite for Wimbledon 2019?

I'd say

1. Novak Djokovic
2. Roger Federer
3. Rafael Nadal
4. Stefanos Tsitsipas
5. Marin Cilic

My list is very similar to yours. I would change out Tsitsipas and Cilic for Del Potro and Medvedev. Tsitsipas' swings are too long for grass, and Cilic is in freefall so they don't make my list.

I would have kyrgios as a 6th pick as I am assuming he will lose somewhere around Qtrs.

1. Novak Djokovic
2. Rafael Nadal
3. Roger Federer
4. Stefanos Tsitsipas
5. Milos Raonic

Raonic played decently well in the early season. He's my dark horse pick for Wimbledon. He's reached a final there, and with Fedalovic only getting older, he's in a great position to make a name for his generation.

Also interesting to see how Thiem and Zverev do on grass. Thiem reached the USO QF and won IW, so definitely showing development off clay. And Zverev won YEC, which plays similar to grass. I'm curious to see how they can translate that to Wimbledon. I'm hoping for QF showings.

Nadal couldn't make a single QF from 2012-17, makes one SF and all of a sudden he's second favourite:rolleyes:. I would barely put him above Tsitsipas and del Potro, let alone Federer

5. Cilic

Nadal is far more likely to win than Del Potro, Tsitsipas or Raonic if he gets to the second week of the tournament. There's no reason he cannot if he could reach semi final last year.

Djokovic however is the clear favourite, followed closely by Federer. If Djokovic gets taken out early or by the semi final, Federer has a very good chance to get #9.

His game has changed, though. Now he has a bigger serve and flatter strokes. I've said for a while that his clay game would drop and grass game would improve because of it, and I was right about the clay part. I'm convinced last year's SF was not an outlier performance like Fed's RG SF, because of the changes in his game and his ability to beat powerful servers on grass (Federer didn't really face anyone of Delpo's caliber at RG19; the closest would be a 34-y/o Stan). Pre-2018 Nadal would have been blown off the court by zoning Delpo, or even by a big server like Vesely in the 4R.

This is just my theory. Who knows, Nadal may very well lose to some schmuck again and I'd have the egg on my face. We shall see.

I'm surprised at federer making the top of people's list. i always put defending champion as the favorite unless they've had a horrible season which I don't think is the case for novak.

here's hoping there isn't a heat waive in london this july, that grass last year....nope.

You've justified your opinion so it's all good, but I can't agree with the bold. Stan is a former champion and finalist and was playing close to his best, just like del Potro. Nadal's game changed but he faced no one of note in the first week, don't even try and mention Vesely who has a career high of like 50. Nadal did well last year because of his draw, the heat and even then only just got by del Potro. I cannot disregard SEVEN whole years of mediocrity just because of one SF run.

Would love to see Roger get number 9, but suspect we’ll have another 2011 Wimbledon and we see another Rafa v Novak final, if Rafa can get through the first week and is seeded 2.

QF, 15-13 in the 5th to the finalist.

He's good on grass, he looks like he's in good shape, he just made the SF on what many (erroneously imo, but w/e) think is his worst surface so on his best surface he could win.
He was a point away from a straight sets win in under two hours, with Isner waiting in the SF and Nadal-Djokovic killing themselves in the other. He takes that point and you'd think he is in the final and then it'd probably be an exhausted opponent. He was top 4/5 on clay this year, no way he isn't top 2 favourites on grass.

That is an interesting analysis. But I remember very well that Djokovic also looked subpar at RG 2018 and then raised his level at WB 2018. So his clay performance is not always an indicative of his performance at Wimbledon. We will see anyway. Federer and Djokovic are the two biggest favorites. Nadal will probably be seeded #3, which means he will have to face either Federer or Djokovic in the SF (if he reaches the SF).

Wait why is Rafa #3? I know Wim has bonus points but he made SF last year

Murray is not even playing singles, and he wouldn't get past the first two matches if he did

I believe 2017 and 2018 were both great showings by Rafa, just faced a zoning opponent earlier and on slightly faster grass. Let's wait and see how it all plays out.

Djokovic, Federer, Tsitsipas.

I see no reason to assume anyone else is going to pull it off. Cilic fell off a cliff, where the hell even is Raonic? Anderson is just trying to come back from injury, whatever renaissance Isner was having last year is over.

I'll throw Pouille out as a dark horse.

I just don't see anyone outside of those 5 winning it. I would love to be wrong but most of the young talented players have been absolutely garbage on grass so far and assuming all 5 names i mentioned are fit enough to play, i don't see them losing to one of them.

Obvious top three favorites is obvious. Obvious order of top three favorites is obvious.

Bookies' consensus is that Zverev is fourth favorite, though one or two have him joint with someone else.

Most have one of Tsitsipas, Kyrgios, Del Potro, and Cilic as #5 favorite. Not much consensus about that.
