Nadal lost to Cilic in straights at Hurlingham.(6-3 6-3)

He didn’t lose a match there last year if my memory is served correctly.

Is this now going to be the "official" tournament thread? A bit of a shame with such a bare post; I realise though that it was created ages ago. Could you update the OP with list of seeds, links to website etc? Draw highlights and link as well when it's out. Would be appreciated!

So, what would be worst case scenario for Fed in terms of the draw? Anderson is going to be the better draw than Nadal, given the season he has had. 5-8 we have Thiem, Zverev, Tsitsipas, Nishikori. They can all be dangerous on the day, but I would take Zverev and Nishikori as the easier opponents.

The 13-16 seeds (potential R4 opponents) are actually all quite dangerous compared to the 9-12 seeds. I'd take Monfils as the easiest of the bunch, probably, on grass (although Coric's win % on grass is actually lower, but I guess he's earlier in his career so it will go up). Raonic, Cilic and Coric all can be dangerous on grass, but haven't had the greatest season, or good results recently. Hard to call, but maybe Raonic is the one to avoid most? Not too much danger in 25-32 (potential R3 opponents). Goffin and Berrettini, and maybe Stan (though on grass?) could be dangerous alternative R4 opponents. So e.g. a worst-case draw could look like this:

R3 Kyle Edmund (?)
R4 Raonic OR Goffin
QF Tsitsipas OR Isner
SF Nadal OR Thiem
F Djokovic

A best-case draw could look something like this:

R3 Djere
R4 Monfils OR Schwartzman
QF Nishikori OR Fognini
SF Anderson OR Zverev
F Djokovic

Actually, if Fed is playing well, he should have a good chance at a deep run. Although I thought he did last year also. :(

Some guys duking it out for a main draw spot are:

Moutet (1) v A.Harris. Can the young #1 seed make into the main draw?
Popyrin (4) v Fratangelo (27). The tall Aussie teen will try to overcome the strong American journeyman.
Vesely (7) v Paul (30). The super tall Czech, who was such a great hope a few years back, will try to vanquish young Tommy, the American, who needs to get just a bit more footing.
Schnur (8) v Caruso (18). Will the Canadian NCAA grad be able to build on his NY Open final and take down the Italian?
Mazchrzak (11) v Couacoad. OK, I have no idea who Mazchrzak, the 23 yo Pole, is but he's the 11th seed. Just sayin.
Barrere (12) v Broady. Can the Frenchman overcome the local boy who's been on a roll in the qualies?
Novak (14) v Ymer (19). Two seeds duking it out. Can the Swede fulfill his promise from when he was younger? Will the Swedes shine again in tennis?
Bemelmens v Young. Well, Bemelmens outlasted Santillan, who proceeded to destroy 5 (I repeat FIVE) racquets in discouragement. B-man takes on 'The Donald', who has been surprisingly strong. What happened?

Feel free to add to the storylines. The later round qualies are often more interesting than the early round main draw matches.
Who ya got?

Also Lukas Rosol is still in the qualifying. You can guarantee that if he makes the main draw, the organisers will try and keep him far away from Nadal.

That top draw you listed would be brutal

Yeah I went and watched it. He played MUCH better and it was a lot closer.

Cilic routined Nadal this year.
well CIlic is a pretty damn good grass player as of late, be more worried if he lost to some no name, but i don't expect him to win wimbledon unless he avoids fed and djoker and the roof haahahah

He had “muscular overload” during his practice sessions in Mallorca before hurling at Hurlingham vs Cilic.

Can someone please define this newest Nadal malady???

Is this yet another made up injury? Reminds me of the Hoffas saga in 2012 lol

The excuses are already prepped and even Nadal is making complaints. Honestly can’t see him winning.

And my further apologies to Majchrzak, as I misspelled his name!
Majchrzak was drubbing Kei at AO after qualifying (beat Schnur, Rubin and Moraing in straight sets) but cramped badly. Since then he put his Challenger shorts back on and has won 2 titles (indoor HC and clay). His one Challenger on grass ended in SFs but he beat both Sugita and Vesely along the way. He should qualify.

The top 3 seeds will be protected as much as possible so that maximum revenue can be generated from live attendance and television ratings. So that means the organizers are hoping for any combination of Federer/Nadal/Djokovic to meet in the SF and Finals. Most likely we'll get French Open 2019 style draws where Federer, Djokovic and Nadal are drawn against their usual pigeons and don't face any type of credible threat other than each other in the business end.
Also, expect Marin Cilic to go out in the first week to a much lower seed, Kei Nishikori to be completely exhausted by the QF after having played back to back to back 5 set matches, and Wawrinka to be drawn against Federer as always. Also expect the big hitters and big servers to be put in the Federer section and the dirtball pushers to be put in Nadal's section. Djokovic will routinely handle the NextGen clowns on his way to the second week. So again, it comes down to the big 3.

If it works out like this, it’s 100% rigged.

I hope we’re wrong though. It would be nice if it was actually random and Nadal got a tough draw for once.

These draw rigging accusations come out with regularity, without any evidence. Mainly I think this is because people don't understand probability. IIRC, there are some very precise rules for how the draw is carried out. I have never seen any evidence that these rules are violated. I assume this is also observed and checked by ATP/ITF.

Liam Broady was 2 sets up, but is behind in the fifth now. A catastrophe for the young Brit.
I have nothing against the guy, but honestly.. feels a bit in-your-face for constantly broadcasting only his matches as if he's some promising up and comer just because he happens to be British and a Wimbledon-junior winner. He has absolutely NEVER delivered after breaking through to the ATP tour.

More importantly: Kwon Soon-Woo is through to the main draw after beating Brands 6-2 6-7 6-1 6-0. Only lost 1 set (by tiebreak) in the qualies and judging from the scoreline, won all his matches pretty easily. If i'm correct, this is the first time he enters a Grand Slam main draw through the qualifying system.

Broady was a WC, so in theory he's done well, but as a WC going through qualies so under the radar, I can't imagine he'd have choked? Seems a comprehensive 3 sets from Barrere after losing the first 2. Unfortunately, as with many of the British cohort, they get handed WCs through the grass season and do very little the rest of the year. Broady rarely makes a splash on the Challenger circuit, even. From what I can see he's 0-4 in Challenger finals - you need to be winning a couple here and there to be getting anywhere close to direct entries or regular qualifier entry at the slams and not just taking WCs. The thing for GB tennis is that you could overlook people like Broady, Watson etc and give the WCs to lower ranked players but they're often ranked so much lower that that also makes little sense...

I've not see Kwon play before but his results in qualies look interesting - let's see who he draws in R1. Anyone who's not a top top player may find their hands full with someone playing so well on the grass.

one of the few times I didraised my brows and was like this is one hell of a coincidence is when isner/mahut were drawn in round 1 a year after that saga of a match. the thing is , i think in people's heads, when people see 50/50 chance they think it means it should alternative every year or something and that is not how it works. I mean if I'm going to a flip a coin 10 times and there is a 50% chance i get heads each flip, doesn't mean 5 times i get heads (that might be a poor example lol), but you get my drift so when people see there is a 50/50 chance no.3 can be drawn to no.1 or no.2 but they see that for example that fed and novak were drawn in the same half many times, it raises people's eyebrows.

this is the rational me. the petty me firmly believes that rafa's draws are rigged so they can keep eh slam race close because that is the only story men's tennis alive.

I've believe draws were rigged when Roddick kept drawing Federer at Wimbledon. Always semi's or finals and I just got sick of it.

Fognini being seeded number 12 is a joke.
And Raonic should take the place of the Italian clown.
