Djokovic has the trickiest draw ...

Or the easiest. No one till now has mentioned it. Find his draw to be the most straightforward and predictable. He was a shoe In before the draw. Now it's probably already on Wiki.

On paper it looks that his opponents are on average less formidable, but they have a much higher upset potential than anything on the Federer/Nadal/Thiem side.

Literally all the young talent minus Shapeau, and a couple of players that know how to play on grass (Anderson, Raonic, etc).

I mean Tsits and Anderson? He crushed an in form Anderson last year (not in form now). Tsits? Before this draw, people were talking about him being weak on grass, and for the most part, his form has proved this to be true.

I will take Tsitsi and Anderson as a more formidable opponent pair than Thiem and Cilic on the grass at Wimbledon.

If Tsitsi's (improving) form and game on grass is weak, what shall we say about Thiem?

BTW, Cilic has been also in terrible form this year, not getting past the R16 in the tournaments, so, right now I consider him less of a thread than I normally would.

Inform Anderson that played 5 sets back to back with Muller and Isner(26-24 5th). His draw is easy but your arguments are "weak".

First round its really difficult. QF against Tsitsi or Medvedev would be tricky. Anderson wont reach the SF after the surgery. I dont think that Djokovic would reach the final, he seems mentally tired just like in 2016

First round is really difficult? That's a joke. hE has 3 wins in the last 7 years at wimbledon.
Now I forgot about Anderson last year, but he is definitely not in form this year either. Tsits/Med can be tricky, but not difficult.

Kohlschreiber is traditionally a dangerous opponent, and certainly probably one of the highest ranked players to meet in the R1 of a Major. He is no slouch on grass either.

At wimbledon he is very, very weak. In 14 years he has reached the 3rd round 3 times and 4th/QF once (8 years ago). Is 13-14 at Wimbledon. This is his worst overall slam.

FAA is still so young and he can go out earlier. Even if he Plays Novak it will be too much to handle for him.

Tsitsti/Med is indeed tricky but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them go out earlier than that.

Kohli as 1st round should be no worries but he could snatch a set and be competitive for a bit. Not someone you wanna play in the first round.

Semis is looking good IMO. All three of them are having issues and you haven't heard mich about Rao and Anderson this year. Watch out for someone unexpected in the semis.

All in all, the draw couldn't be better for Djovak. He should be satisfied with this. He escaped the dangerous first week opponents like Kyrgios, Tsonga, Cilic.

And that reflects his overall position in the game both as ranking and as titles. He isn't a world beater, nor is he a top player, but as a R1 hurdle it is a pretty high bar to clear. Djokovic will have to be very sharp from the get go, otherwise it can get messy, and having to be sharp from the get go will take its toll later in the tournament.

If Djokovic is ready from the get go to play on a high level I don't think so, but anything can happen. Djokovic himself is not all that focused all the time anymore, so maybe Kohli has a fighting chance. He is the type of player that certainly will think so, and that makes him so dangerous at times.

Would you have preferred, if Djokovic had Nadal's draw, and Nadal had Djokovic's draw?

Please, no answers like "it is what it is".

R1 Kohlschreiber
R2 Kudla
R3 Mayer/Lajovic
R4 FAA/Dimitrov
QF Tsitsipas/Medvedev
SF Anderson/Khachanov/A.Zverev
F Federer/Nadal

On paper this looks tough, but these players are either unproven or in bad form

This is a golden chance for Djokovic to at least make the final

Berrettini is also in his part of the draw, as is Lopez etc. Really, there isn't a player that can be more unpredictable than those guys, and if one have understood something from the whole fixing of draws/favours towards the top players is that they thrive on predictability.

Tsitsipas is the toughest QF. But Nadal has actually a very easy quarterfinal. Thiem is a grass mug and every other potential QF opponent is bad. Federer's QF (Isner/Berrettini) is a lot tougher.

I'll have to look closer at the draw, but Novak's draw doesn't seem easy. Kohli in the 1st round. I'm definitely satisfied with Nadal's draw though.

Yeah Novak has Kohli 1R, FAA 4R, Tsitsipas QF (if he gets there). Definitely a harder draw for this field.

Basically we have to compare Tsitsipas, FFA, Kohli to Kyrgios, Shapovalov/Tsonga, Cilic. Considering Cilic's form this year, I'd say Novak's quarter is slightly tougher although he got the easy SF.

Well, we'll see.

Do you reckon this is all a setup for #21?

Berrettini is in Fed's quarter. Pretty much the toughest draw Federer got.

No. That is a setup of a potential Fedovic/Djokodal final. Nadal in Djokovic's half would have been a setup for #21.

It is just the way the things should be, otherwise Nadal or Federer might not make it to the final (especially Nadal with his constant upsets in early rounds). Obviously Djokovic is deemed the most stable of the three (rightly so, considering Fed's age and Nadal's propensity for early fvuckups) to see himself through a more unpredictable draw. Nadal has always been far from most of the unpredictable players (especially some up and coming new stars) and this time is no different, but it is brought to the extreme. He literally doesn't have any young up and coming player in his part of the draw except for Shapeau, and he is currently in very bad state. The only thing that stops the focus on that recurring trend is that this time Federer is on the same side, so it is not only about Nadal.

Nadal got the toughest draw. WTF are people even talking about? Kyrgios and then Tsonga or Shapovalov? And then maybe Cilic if he finds his form somehow.

"Informal" means it's not a real word. It violates basic grammar rules. You do not use the "y" suffix to refer to inducing something in somebody else.

It's a tennis forum, not a literature forum. Let people use informal words if they want.

Nishikori is going to come out of that section. Fed won't have to worry about Isner or Berrettini

Glassikori might not make it to Fed, and that is not the only point. The point is that Berrettini is far from the player that regularly gets upset in the early rounds, and that is the main benefit from having him elsewhere.

He's made the QFs 4 Slams in a row. Pretty impressive consistency if you ask me. Only Djokovic and Nadal have matched this.

I am not impressed by Nishikori on grass, and so think that a serious player will take him to the woodshed at Wimbledon, if he has a good day. Nishi's form is also unknown, and that, for now, means that we are wasting our time predicting how far he will go.
