Maybe he wants the money to go and visit his mother?

That he cannot do in this world anymore.

The point is that he pictured himself as a small boy running to his mother. So powerful is the mother-child bond - it is the only genuine relationship in the world.

At the end we return to the beginning. The circle of life.

When we are a child, we are looked after by our parents. When we are parents we look after our children and our parents. When we are old we are looked after by our children.

Why is that?

Don't know. That is what I kept hearing from my father-in-law who made the arrangements.

My biggest worry is that I will be out of my senses when I am close to death, and say obscene things and mention the names of women other than my wife, and then end up recovering and having to face the consequences.

Just pretend you don't remember anything.

That doesn't work anymore with people recording everything.

People recording you when you are dying doesn't prove that you remember anything. Just act as surprised as they do when you recover and they play it back to you.

May all living beings be happy and at peace.

That's what I invariably say every night as I fall asleep.

Earlier this year, when my father was ill and delusional and thought he was going to die, he asked the nurse to fetch his shirt and pants so that he can go visit his mother.
Reminds me of once long ago, when my dad had his first heart attack, and we were driving him to the hospital, he was telling me repeatedly he was dying. I think he lived another 30 years at least.

That is too simple. I don't have much experience being near dying people, but the impression I got from Bollywood movies is that the dying person does the following:
I can only think of my father, and one aunt. Both were not in sound mind at that time, aunt had a stroke and was sometimes lucid sometimes talking nonsense. She mistook me for her physio and was telling me I caused her great pain. My dad often told me "Your father was very fond of me, he took great care of me" etc etc. Finally, i found out that he mistook me for his boss whose father he had known.
