It's labeled as training shorts at the moment, so we probably (I mean, hopefully) won't see them in the official matches. There are black, white, marine blue (for American swing) and deep red (Asian) shorts on the list for that. Plus, the European tournament polo in white with black lines is listed as Doha Polo.

I doubt he'll shine in Cincy without any preparation. Then again, it's more about USO.

For him it is more about the USO now, and after a couple of epics between RG and W, probably wise to take extra time off, get in a couple of matches in at Cincinnati and get into USO fresh.

Hopefully that works. He almost always played both Canada and Cincy before. I'd hate if he drops in 1st few rounds and ends up undercooked. Also a bit sad he'll probably not defend Cincy.

Who really would be able to beat him there? Rafa will probably not play Cincy, since he's playing Montreal. Fed? Nah. Djokovic could stroll through the Cincy draw and probably win it w/o dropping a set.

Rafa is 0-2 against Novak in Cincinnati, and that was when Rafa still had his great movement, it would be even more difficult now. Fed is still the closest thing there is to beat Djokovic in Cincinnati IMO. However considering it will be his first event back and there now being a considerable difference in how he approaches the masters in relation to slams, other players might get him early.

Even when he played 3 matches in Canada last year before Cincy, he lost 4 sets to Mannarino, Dimitrov, Raonic and Cilic there, coming from a brink of disaster and break down in the 3rd 2 or 3 times in those matches. I doubt he's going to defend that title, let alone stroll to it without any tune up.

Peak Djokovic vs Peak Safin would have been a classic match-up. Kinda reminds me of Stan vs Djokovic. Safin, at his best, was as solid off both wings as you could find and he was a good enough mover. Djokovic doesn't have enough power to hit through him so it would be a real cat and mouse match.

You got that feeling watching Djokovic in diapers.
If Safin couldn't harm Federer, Djokovic would toy with Safin all day long.

There is still one week between Cincinatti and US open, he could have gone for both. He could have rested it well between Cincinatti and the US Open.
Yh I guess he will try to win few matches in CINCY......then try to go all out on USO ....... But what doesn't bode so well for Novak is this, he has played great only once in Cincinatti finals........and only TWICE at the USO (2011 final vs Nadal and 2018 Final vs Delpo) The 2015 final wasn't a high level from Djokovic just mentally rock solid...... as we can see...Novak has never played GREAT CONSECUTIVELY at either tournament and has under-performed during CINCY/USO.....1+3 titles only......... Same as "CLAY SPECIALIST".....

Djokovic news on page 7. Disgust.

Nothing to actually report yet LOL, got to wait a few days for Cincinnati to begin, where he will appear as a defending champion for the first time.

Some fun facts before then. This is Novak's 40th consecutive week at number 1, making it the 20th longest streak since the rankings were introduced.

Among the best 20 streaks at the top of the rankings, Djokovic is the only one who appears on that list four times. 53 in 2011-12, 48 in 2012-13, 122 in 2014-16 and now 40 in 2018-present.

Whenever he climbs to the top, he sticks around for a while...

Since we are talking about weeks at #1, Novak is closing in on Jimmy Connors, 5 weeks away. Next is Ivan Lendl with 7 weeks in front. Sampras and Federer have a bit larger lead, but we believe in Novak. :) (Sampras 23 weeks, Fed 47 weeks away) All this as of August 5th, when Novak started his 263rd week as #1.

So in July 2020, if Novak stays at the top, he will overtake Federer's record. (y)

That's a big if but he can do it. He's already almost guaranteed to pass Connors and Lendl to become number 3 in history, that's huge.

It should. He just needs to keep his eye on the prize. One good omen is he's always won the USO after winning AO and Wim in the same season.

I don't think his eye is on anything but the USO. In fact immediately after the Wimbledon final, while others spent all their time dissecting that match, Novak was probably already thinking about USO, he sort of mentioned it in his speech in that he is going for the record. Novak will be ready for USO, and it plays even 90 percent of his best, he will win the title.

He should be extremely confident right now. He has to keep his eye on the main goal now, and if he does he has a solid chance to reach it. He's back to hardcourt which is his strongest surface as well.

The guy is at his mentally strongest right now, that win against Nadal at Wimbledon 2018 and then the one against Federer at Wimbledon 2019, he has got to be feeling the wind in his back heading into the big one in NYC. He knows fully well that history beckons should he win the Open, he will almost certainly pass Nadal then and will then lock his sights on the biggest prize, Federer.
