What's the most 'liked' post or thread in the history of this forum? Now that we have some downtime with no pressure of getting likes, I'd like to read up on it.

I think it was that guy who made the insane prediction cecchinato would beat djokovic at RG18 months and months in advance

what is the advantage of the Like feature in your opinion?

someone said that you don't need to comment verbally that way, but is that actually a good thing? if so, for what?
Just a convenient way to interact with posts you agree with quickly. Easier than quoting something you like just to write "this!". It's not like anyone is beating you over the head to use it if you don't like the feature, right. And do you really think after someone clicks like on your post that they are stupid because of it? You obviously don't count yourself among stupid masses so ones who liked your thought might be similar to you, no?

this. (if there was a like button i could have just liked this post instead of typing one word)

Agreed with the suggestion that if you add a like then that needs to be balanced by a dislike option as well.

Then there will not be blatant fishing for likes without any restraint and people's opinion will much more resemble their honest version.

my post in that Agassi Federer thread with like 67 likes could be the most liked non-OP post

and what would that be good for?
most people didn't do that in the pre-Like-button era as it is so stupid. they would (be tempted to) add a comment.

People are so used to showing what they agree to all the time, they dont understand that it really doesnt mean anything. They think instant agreement is something important and needed.

Sally Field when she won the oscar in 1985 not "like" but "you really like me" was a bit cringy back then and still is today. I get it you just won but just remember the 3 G's! Be Gracious, Grateful and Get off the stage...there are others that are receiving awards tonight sheesh!

It's good for nothing really. It just gives you illusion of happy feelings. Also there's no point in living because you were born to die.

But seriously though, I miss it if only for having an acknowledge button when you're going back and forth with someone. It's a shorthand for "yup, I see what you wrote, I get you."

And idk about anyone else, but since the recent update my notifications have been messed up too. Sometimes I'm quoted in something but never get the red alert light up. But if I actually click on it the notification will be sitting there unread. So it's more important than ever for me to have that like button.

Keep them away. Content that is made just to appeal to others is not something really necessary.

It is too hard to read threads now. My brain can't take it! I used to scroll through and spot-read but now I don't know who is on which side of the argument as I cannot read all of the posts and there are no more likes.

so are you 100% likes/post ration? I don't like you if that the case, and I wont like any of your posts on principle.
Well I have about 5,000 messages and about 9,000 likes. That doesn't mean every one of my posts is liked. Some posts have 0 likes but some will have 10 or 12.

I think this thread is proof that the level of discourse is awful regardless of the like button existing or not. In its defence, the like button probably removed most of the '+1' posts in forums, but for sure people fish for likes.

Its not fair. You have beaten me.
Can also be he belongs to the biggest fan group and therefor gets more likes.
That itself says how the like function doesnt tell the full story. Just because something gets likes doesnt mean its better or more truthful than something that get less likes.

We also like things because we are partial beings and to show which group we belong to. Which is often not so good in the big picture. Makes the gap bigger in a world we should rather communicate and unify.
