The Steve Bruce blueprint. :(

I was quite happy to see that Matic is not in the starting team today. James won't be getting fouled as much as I would have hoped. He's on the bench.

De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw, McTominay, Pogba, Pereira, Lingard, Martial, Rashford

But it still looks OK at the minute, no?

New number 9 having one of his fizzy moments there. Get in. Pereira with delightful assist.

Harsh scoreline on Chelsea.

Nice to see United's kids doing the job for them today. (y)

Yeah, it was close at 1-0. I'm glad De Gea looked in the game. Defense doesn't look soft and creamy. Yeah, I know it is just one game. Have to celebrate while I can. Once United scored the second and then the quick third then it was game ball.

Offense looks much more fluid without flat footed lumbering slug Lukaku

All the praying with Abruzzi got us a clean sheet, fluid style, exceptional Pogba, debut goal for James. Need to start a podcast and start raving about this stuff. One day only special. What I said about Matic earlier. Think he will be better suited to the cold rainy nights at Newcastle.

Never forget moyes tried to sign Maguire for 4m.

He was a visionary @Doctor/Lawyer Red Devil @TheAssassin

Not that it matters or anything but I think they went a bit over the top with him being man of the match and all. Yeah, Rashford and Martial had their wastage, but they made up for it. Maguire was rock solid so yay to that. I'd give Rashford the man of the match. Bias to attackers again.

I think even Fergie spotted him way back. Although that doesn't surprise me at all, unlike Moyes' incredible eye for talent.

It did make me feel warm inside when I saw Alex Ferguson in the crowd smiling and Bobby Charlton. Both there watching a good performance for once. Only thing I didn't get today was Paul Scholes pundit duty. :p

I don't think this is some sort of sign of turnaround for Manchester United yet, a lot of work is still ahead of them. But convincingly beating a team they might compete with for the Champions League place is the best possible start they could have wished for. Beating the teams they are supposed to beat on paper might be the main challenge for them actually, as that was something they were awful at at the beginning and ending of last season.

Their line-up today was pretty young as well. Might be something to build on in the next years where no doubt they will continue to add some quality players as well. One of those mega transfers is bound to work excellently for them. At least I hope they get back where they used to be.

What a shame they let Herrera go by the way. Sometimes reckless, but I always liked that player. Both when he was playing in La Liga for Zaragoza and Bilbao, and in Manchester as well.

Don't worry. People with two much power will make up for any attackers bias by giving Van Dijk the Ballon d'Or.

It is a shame. Even greater shame when we didn't bring in another midfielder to replace him. I'm still happy enough because of the defensive upgrades.

The youthful exuberance shined through yesterday. I know we are going to make our own mistakes and teams will capitalise.. Chelsea pretty much made four mistakes yesterday and United punished all of them. Not used to that sort of clinical form from a recent United team. Chelsea were hitting the post etc. DDG was not giving away any fumbles. Another day Chelsea score.

One game at a time. Let's see what we have against Wolves next week. Lost both of the away games (one fa cup) last season and a draw at home. Let's beat them next Monday. :p

I don't think either Martial or Rashford are that comfortable tracking back. It did change round to them both in the centre for a bit yesterday. Could see that Rashford was wrecked at the end. He did put a shift in.

Hannibal ftw.

Manchester United have NEVER lost a Premier League match at Old Trafford when leading at halftime. W263 D16 L0

I am quite surprised they have kept this record in tact six years after Sir Alex left lol.

Stunning.

Liverpool beat Chelsea at full time. 2-1. A screamer from Mane seals the deal. His second of the night.

Oh wait! Idiot didn't realize it is extra time.

Chelsea equalise with a Jorginho penalty.

After 9 of the previous 10 Super Cups were won by La Liga team, Premier League win one themselves. Took the "best league in the world" long enough. :p First UEFA Super Cup for them since 2005, when Liverpool were also victorious.

Congrats to Klopp's team. Good penalties. And definitely better from Chelsea compared to their league opener.

The tide is turning, my friend. Now we can say it is the best league in the world and mean it. :p

I will grasp at straws and say it's at least better than seeing Real scrape through consecutive Champions Leagues. :p It's just so disappointing that we messed up this year badly.

That was such a mess, I thought Barca were going to achieve the treble. Hope you do it this season.

I forgot the transfer window is still open for you and several other leagues. Adding anyone else before September?

I was reading the news and it said Bruno Fernandes was not signed because he is a risk taker. His risks seemed to bring great rewards last season. Yeah, maybe not premier league but still. Guess I can't argue against it really. Not yet anyway.

Ole is a fan of structure. How do things connect? Signing Bruno would lead to them not being properly propagated. Wise man did once say, no risk, no reward, son. GGMU

One look at all of Pogba's risky show offs that usually end in disaster makes me LOL at that.
I hear ya. I guess it does make sense because of Pogba having licence to do whatever he wants. Can't have 2 of them in midfield might be how they look at it. I'm just thinking simple and thinking our midfield is not up to standard. Fernandes in. Awk well.

I was optimistic at one point, and for the first 11 matches we were the best team in the Champions League. But at the end of the day, we didn't deserve to win it for that collapse alone. Lesson still not learned.

Barcelona have been linked with Neymar again. I don't know what we are thinking if there is truth to that. It's a massive risk considering his recent injury record and how much he would cost, and it would be such a stacked attack that I am not sure how would all the four stars would fit in. Dembele, another huge investment, would suffer from that too.

More significantly, from an older fan's point of view, his departure to Paris and recent actions is why I am against his return. But money talks these days and Barcelona seem ready to swallow their pride. That was already on display when Griezmann joined. Actions like these are the reason everyone will demand perfection, and I am not sure some of the players and especially the manager are up to that task.

Part of me wishes he'd return because I bought my mom a Neymar Barcelona jersey back when I was in Spain few years ago. She loves him. It would have a little more sense and value if he got back with you guys rather than staying in PSG or worse, signing for Real Madrid.
I think this was even crazier. Now let's get to the champions league ⚪
Here is hoping. I am already glad we guaranteed ourselves European football one way or another.
