Kyrgios Penalties

Suspension is too far.
He didn't touch, threaten, or spit on the umpire.
TBH I was expecting a game violation since Kyrgios kept yapping away.
Yeah Kyrgios called the chair umpire names and was disrespectful, but nothing of the same caliber at the US Open 2017 when Fognini called the chair umpire a "Wh*re."
2019 Wimbledon - Fognini, "I wish a bomb would explode on this club," and "a bomb should explode here,"
No suspension and a stupidly small fine.
Too much over reacting... The fines are enough for what happened last night.

The issue for me isn't so much what Kyrgios did this time, but that there's a longterm track record, and corrective action, up until now, has not worked.

Exactly. If Kyrgios would have said what Fognini said at Wimbledon people would want him banned for life.

Fine to severe IMO! The referee start the clock on NK on both the receiving and serve immediately after the last point was finish. NK usually towels off after each point. Totally ridiculous treatment! He should file an grievance with the ATP Council to get the fines reduce and have the serve clock start after the server is ready on the baseline.

You might want to read the rules. The clock is supposed to run the moment the point ends. Customary is they call the score as soon as the point ends and the clock runs.

The boy has done nothing wrong. He is just a misunderstood, ENTERTAINING, ELECTRIC GENIUS.

:-D
Wrong premise. He did plenty wrong against Fergus Murphy and should be punished. But the rest of your message is correct. Who is more entertaining to watch than Nick when he's playing well? Fed and that's it.

Plenty of guys out there. Servebots are... Not so great. Even the ones with tweeners. :p

It sure looked like he did spit at the umpire, although maybe not "on." Just as bad, though, IMO.

Fines ain't gonna do jack at this stage that's not a consequence to him but being suspended from tournaments is. If they have the balls they'd suspend him from the USO but the misunderstood genius will likely be there.

Fognini grabbed an umpires arm duing an argument.
He also threatened to hit one with his racquet.
Serena threatens to shove a tennis ball down an umpire's throat. (Death threat?)
No suspension. Come on guys!

Clear difference between spitting at the ground vs. the spit landing on someone.
One is disrespect. The other is a bio-hazard.

I have been informed that umpire Fergus Murphy, well known, well liked, and well respected on Tour, has received words of support from a number of players. No umpire deserves to be treated as Nick Kyrgios treated Fergus. It was despicable behaviour rightly fined by ATP

A suspension of about 6 months would be the best thing for both Kyrgios and the sport. It would show that for once the ATP is willing to stand up and protect its match officials. A nice bout of relevance deprivation syndrome would also teach Kyrgios how much he "hates tennis."

Gotta agree with Nick here; whatever Rafa has done on court is way worse for the game. Think of the example he sets for children

It takes a decade of housebreaking to set them back straight

Yes, ATP, let's do that!

Oh, no, you won't, because you need Nick to continue to suck money.

Alright then. Postponed.

I would send him on an Umpiring course and force him to umpire a minimum 50 matches at ITF Futures level before he can return to the circuit.

This is the perfect punishment. Absolutely perfect. They would also need to ensure that he gets to ref anyhigh-strung problem players as well.

I'd have to go along with this. Make it a next time there'll be no next time kinda deal. If he goes extreme level on antics again then suspend him.
I dont want Nick suspended. I want to see him being crushed by Novak in 3 round in USO.
Rafa crushing him in 3 round is my second option if not in Novaks half.

At least fogni apologises, and I don’t think kgyrios apologising at all, right?

Wrong. The umpires are given leeway to start it later if they wish if it was a long rallies, more than normal crowd noise, the anticipate a challenge on a close call etc.

Correct, discretion is in place if the crowd is screaming so loud the players can’t hear him call the score. That is the only delay in starting the clock other than challenges. When there are crickets in the crowd like in the Kyrgios match they call the score right after the point ends and the clock starts. They will also pause it if the player is interrupted at the line or the crowd is moving. There are numerous factors that call for discretion so that the player is not penalized for things beyond his or her control. Make sense?
Nick acts like the world is against him and they paused the clock for him while he was acting like an idiot. Bites the hand that is feeding him.
You can believe they have never paused the time clock for the top three while they threw a temper tantrum.

The sponsor's money must be good, because if I'd gotten on a plane, flown thousands of miles, spent hours on a practice court, paid people to keep me in shape, gotten showered and dressed to take a match into a third set only to have all the money taken away, then shrug it off...$100k is over 200 24 hour days working a $20/hour job. These guys just don't live in the real world.

Without a lengthy suspension it means absolutely nothing. You think he cares about a fine when Federer is promoting his behavior and paying him much more than that with Laver Cup money? He doesn't!

I was under the impression that Federer is a classy guy ? Why invite Kyrgios ??

Minimum 6 month suspension, that could push him out of the sport altogether. That would be great. It’s not like last night was a one off.

Murphy was smart during the match. He let Kyrgios destroy himself.

Nick Kyrgios fined $113 000 for 5 separate examples of unsportsmanlike conduct, 1 of verbal abuse, an audible obscenity and for leaving the court unauthorised during last night’s match with Karen Khachanov.1:05 PM · Aug 15, 2019 from Mason, OH

@russellcfuller
The ATP also says it is now considering whether additional action is warranted under the Player Major Offence section of the code. That could result in an additional fine and/or suspension.

So the atp is saying the chair didnt do their job since they found multiple violations and he didnt?

Have any of you haters thought about taking a few deep breaths and sitting on posts for a while before submitting them? Kyrgios was bad and deserved a hefty fine but all these calls for suspension this, suspension that are just hilarious, especially from Djokodaleks. Is it all a bit painful that Kyrgios speaks the truth about cheats and boring players and is generating interest in the sport that your boys simply ain't...?

This is a PROFESSIONAL SPORT.

A lot of people around the world are watching this Professional Sport ... including millions of young people, many who aspire to be Professional Tennis Players one day.

Professional Sportspeople are not necessarily Role Models. However, they need to be Professional and seen to be Professional. This means respecting the Rules of the Sport, the competitors, the Officials, and the spectators.

Kyrgios is not being Professional. If he chooses not to be Professional, then he should be excluded from this particular Profession for a time deemed appropriate for him to realise that he should be behaving in a Professional manner.

And if he cannot do that ... do what many other people do ... Find another Profession !!!
