She is, she's the 8th seed.

The first post is just a copy of the entry list, note that it has Barty at #1 as she was #1 when the entry list was released but as she's #2 now she'll be the #2 seed.

Have to wait for the draw to come out but so far i'm looking at Barty, Serena and Pliskova.

I need to see how Osaka, Halep and Kvitova are doing as they've been carrying injuries this hard court season so i'm unsure of how they are.

Andreescu and Kenin will be ones to watch but given their lack of slam experience, i'm not ready to declare them as a top 5 pick.

Keys is always one to watch at the slams + her Cincy title but I just don't think she mentally has what it takes to win a slam final, should she get there (she's making big strides though).

Former champs Kerber and Sloane are in terrible form but I guess you can never rule them out.

Watch out for Sevastova who's made the QF in 2016 and 2017 and then the SF last year. Loves NYC.

Svitolina finally broke her inability to make a slam SF so watch for her.

Ah I see - thanks for clarifying!

Sad that Anisimova will miss this year's US Open... I feel like she would've thrived on the center stage in NY. Important for her to recover, though.... she is TOO young to have her career hampered already by back injuries.

osaka's knee won't b up to scratch so 1 down a few more to go for bartyparty, lololololol won't bet on barty mamohmam any1/10s' got chance...............but still, gogo ausssie barty oioioi................

Thought Keys was impressive in Cincy. She may be next in line for the, "Win a Slam, then Disappear" trophy.

Hmmm I thought I saw she had withdrawn to heal her back, but that may have only been from Toronto/Cincy. Hopefully she will be well enough to play in NY!

Sort of shocked Mattek Sands didn't get a direct wildcard into the main draw, instead getting one into the Qualies.

Truly a wide open event, as there are so many majors winners playing, that there are no guarantees in the field. Perfect tennis environment.

Sloane kicked Sven to the curb, she needs another coach.

I think there are literally 20 women capable of winning this thing.

There are, to me, no favorites here. Osaka is injured, Serena is questionable. Keys is an inconsistent flake. Barty didn't look amazing on summer Hardcourts. Halep has lost in the first round the past 2 years. I'd keep an eye on Sakkari and Kenin from the lower half of the seeds. I could see them making waves with the right draw

i honestly can't even predict a winner. I do think if Serena is healthy and playing well you can always count on her to atleast reach the second week. I assume a lot of eyes will be on Naomi to defend her title, we'll see how she responds to the pressure and ofcourse how she's doing after retiring from cincy after the knee injury.


also curious to see how gauff plays after a really good wimbledon

How Healthy is Serena going in? have there been any updates? Her body just doesn't seem to be either fully ready or cooperating with her at this point. Its certainly not a good omen to have both of last years finalists walking in questionable now

i am not sure ofcourse, she withdraw from cincy due to back issues but she said that while painful at the time, these are something that she has experienced before and that they go away within a few days. she probably didn't want to aggravate it further in cincy knowing USO is right around the corner.

She definitely got a much need confidence gift at Wimbledon. I don't think she would have gotten it if Gasparyan hadn't retired during their match

The thing with Serena is she can look great but then not. I suppose thats the case with a lot of tennis players from one match to the next. Her body needs to hold up over two weeks. And her mind. Thats asking a lot. But is suppose thats almost everyone in the WTA so whats the real difference between her and everyone else who has a chance at winning.

The difference is most of them didn't just from a tournament final. Serena doesn't just retire from finals. She may randomly pull out of tournaments but when she is in a final she wants to be there. She certainly didn't look great when she left the court in Canada. She is hungry to win something, anything, in her comeback. That Hunger could well drive her stubbornly through the US Open draw. Heaven knows Serena has a real gift for pushing herself beyond being wrapped and taped and willing herself to keep going. The problem is eventually thats not going to work anymore

This could be a big USO for her.

I agree with others that this USO is wide open. Any number of players could win it; no favorite(s) whatsoever in my book.

Muguruza has never done exceptionally well here. She's only been past the 2nd round once.

Halep, well, I'd like to see her do well. The last 2 years she's been bounced round 1, so honestly anything beyond that is an improvement. Hopefully she gets an easy first round match, the last 2 years she did get dangerous first rounders in Sharapova and Kanepi. Neither are amazing anymore but for 1 match they can play lights out and take you out.

I'd throw Sakkari's name in there as well. She's definitely the longest shot of those 3 but she has 5 top 10 wins this year. She beat Kvitova and Sabalenka back to back in Cincy before Barty rallied from a set down to knock her out. She also lost to the eventual champ in San Jose after taking down top seeded Svitolina. I think she has the game to do it, my only concern is if she has the ability to mentally last 2 weeks.

A tragic passing of a father who was only in his early 50s. He was also her primary coach in the past. They seemed fairly close. She has been working with other coaches more recently, but I'm fairly certain that Konstantin with with his daughter in San Jose early this month -- the last event she played this year.

Search YouTube for death of family members with US athletes, they say its some sacrifice. Hope its not true but if true Amanda will gain more fame and success after this.
