Season starts August 24 with the rebirth of the Hurricanes vs Gators rivalry.

Anybody getting in the way of the inevitable CFP matchup, whether as a SF or Championship Game? Two best QBs for sure.

Just hoping for a bowl game this year for my once mighty ‘Noles.

Discuss or disgust.

Not seeing a good season for the Noles at all. Think we might have Bama vs Clem yet again.

Though we do have a few possible upsets to that.

Clemson’s toughest games are early. With an entirely new defensive line, that will be the most dangerous time for them. If they get through Texas A&M and Syracuse in the early season, look for them to build late season momentum.

ESPN game-by-game FPI has host Ohio State entering The Big Game vs Michigan unbeaten but with only a 23% chance to win the battle of unbeatens.

Clemson’s FPI is the highest. ESPN rates the biggest upset chances are Game 2 vs Texas A&M but only 11.5% and the closing rivalry game vs South Carolina (only 15%). Common opponents for Clemson and Alabama are Texas A&M and South Carolina and the Sabanites are not as heavy a favorite at 74 and 82 percent in those road games. Clemson does have home field advantage vs both common opponents. In fact, Clemson plays only 4 away games this year and only two are further than 275 miles of road trip.

Really wish Gators would get back to the Tebow days. However, I would love to see Tua and Lawrence end up facing each other again undefeated.

Tebow, yes; Urban Moral-less Meyer, Hell no! His former assistant runs the program now and has yet to display a bad step down the outlaw road. I can cheer for them except during the final regular season game vs my school. They are favored in all but the LSU and Georgia games. That’s a recipe for a bowl game but no playoff appearance.

Yeah, but they always have a let down game or two that they should win and never can find a QB anymore.

Your boy (punk-a) left FSU in favor of the worst school in the US. I hope he and his team never win anything.

Jimbo Fisher? He brought FSU a national title but sacrificed the program’s integrity doing it. Bolting for $75million at A&M when facing an automatic bowl ban for academic deficiencies if he stayed in Tallahassee was a “have your cake and eat it too moment.” A mini-Urban so to speak.

I suffered last year’s on field results under Taggart but he’s building a better culture there and will get decent results when it’s his team instead of the Jimbo era recruits. ESPN has them projected bowl eligible easily with as many as 10 wins (only Clemson and Florida are favored). The opening game in Jacksonville vs Boise State may put a stamp on Taggart’s progress.

All 3 big Florida teams struggle to fInd QB's these days. It seems odd that a huge football state struggles in this department with talented outside talent to throw to.

Hoping for Wolverines, but guessing it'll be Alabama or Clemson. I usually root against Alabama because they are almost unbeatable on a consistent basis.

It has shifted. Dabo recruits very well and keeps his core staff happy to be his assistants with very little turnover. The Alabama coaching staff changes every year.
It is like the Patriots though, there is only one man that matters, and if you leave, you will face the harsh reality that YOU were not the special one. HE was.

Not biggest football fan and don't pay attention to college at all.

But I'm hoping the Jalen Hurts revenge tour goes into full effect with him winning ah Heisman and a national title. Why am hoping for that? Because eff Saban, that's why.

Even if Hurts puts up the numbers I think a lot of people will not vote for the Oklahoma guy for 3rd straight Heisman. So if Hurts does win a Heisman he either has to have the best season in college QB history or everyone else has to throw up a royal dud.

It's gonna be Bama v Clemson again. No teams in the PAC, Big 10 or Big 12 can compete. I can't see anyone outside of Oregon in the PAC even being competitive. Maybe Michigan. Maybe Georgia can upset the apple cart in the SEC. Can't see anyone in the ACC tripping up Clemson.

Gonna be an interesting year for my Hokies. We've lost 22 players to transfer/ineligibility/dismissal over the last 15 months. :( The last recruited class by Beamer made up the bulk of them. The D returns the bulk of its starters but the question, as always, will be offensive production. I like Justin Fuentes a lot but he'll be on the hot seat with another poor season. UVA is rising in the ACC and in-state recruiting in VA. Clemson isn't going anywhere and Miami and FSU will come back to their former glory. A lot at stake in Blacksburg.

Ward has nothing on the best college QB ever.
That’s why he’s a minor league baseball player these days, no?

Tebow was a the clean white pearl in the muck of a program run by a “win at any cost” maniac that recruited sociopaths and hired and condoned domestic violence abusers.

A lot to be proud of there in Cainesville.

I would say he had a more successful career than Winston and Defrancois or whatever that tool was.
That’s pure delusional about Winston, who passed for just 1300 yards left in two seasons than Tebow in four years. He also helped win a title in an undefeated season as the starting freshman QB and got FSU in the playoffs the next year. I’m certainly not proud of his off-field behavior and Jimbo Fisher’s lack of supervision/discipline but Winston got as much done on the field as Tebow did in a longer span.

As to DeFrancois, I can mention a few Gator QB busts like Will Grier (PED cheater), Austin Appleby and Luke Del Rio...what’s your point bringing up his name? Very poor debating tactic to change the subject plus adding the “tool” insult. Respect-o-meter going down there, dude.

Sounds like you have a personal distaste for Tebow if you think Winston had the better college career. Come on. Tebow won the title twice. Tebow also has a NFL playoff victory.

I am not gators fan either. But yes, Jimbo and Winston, have very unlikable qualities that deserve to be commented on negatively. Not sure how calling Winston a "tool" is incorrect? He is, and I truly hope you are not defending his repeated actions over the course of a decade.

Yes, I said this earlier in this thread, Gators really struggle at finding a QB since Tebow. But sure, you can respect me less for calling Winston a tool. Fine, I will respect you less for thinking he is not one. The dude deserves zero respect. Period.

Feels like GPPD flame war, dude.

Tebow was a freshman QB behind Leak for the first title.

I do respect Tebow and don’t condone Winston’s off-field behavior (stated before) but I don’t slur pejoratives. We were discussing on-field performance before you went in the gutter. As I said, in two years Winston almost matched Tebow’s passing numbers in four. GOAT college QB label is far fetched.

Winston is still in the NFL and Arians will be the key to matching and then surpassing that meaningless Tebow playoff stat if Jameis absorbs his QB whispering. Tebow was out of the league two years after that win. That means there are 64 better pro QBs than what his skill set offered.

Look, you clearly have a dislike for Tebow as that is what set you off. I was joking back with you with a shot about Florida State. If using the word "tool" (another way of saying a loser, and yes you can be talented, rich, famous, and win football games and still have a loser personality) to describe the things Winston has done or been "accused" of bothers you, I apologize. Yet, I think it is a fair assessment and not vulgar in anyway.

But if this causes you to lose respect for me, So be it. I am here to have some fun talking about NCAA football which is my second/third sports passion.

Also, Tebow's playoff win, and season run that year was remarkable... and yes it was brutal at times, but it was something unexplainable and miraculous at times.

I get it, your a FSU fan, so like the GPPD discussions, you go all in when someone comes down hard with truths.

Time for the ignore button to be hit. Clearly, you’re an argumentative drone I have no use for.

I told you already I have great respect for Tebow but you cannot comprehend the difference between liking him and anointing him as GOAT college QB.

Ciao.

Clemson and Gator alumni here. Let's lower the temperature @Lleytonstation and @stringertom. I saw Charlie Ward beat my Clemson tigers 57-0 in Tally and Chris Weinke beat us 54-7 two years later. I'm not a fan of FSU but I'm glad I got to see both those guys play in their home stadium. Winston gave us the worst loss probably the last decade in Clemson. All those games sucked for me but I got to witness greatness.

I've been fortunate the last few years with Deshaun Watson and now Trevor Lawrence. We have a freshman coming in next year that will be of the same caliber. Enjoy the football whoever has the talent that year. My 2 cents...

I do wonder how TL will do in his second year. I think he will surpass Tua even more this year. Tua is great, but his NFL talent is still questionable. TL has got it all, I see him running away with the Heisman this year.

As far as the first few weeks, not as many big games as usual, but that is what is great about college... upsets.

I’ve placed him on ignore for putting words in my mouth.

Ward as Famous Jameis were both studs in college and while Tebow had a better overall college career, there’s no question the other 2 were better pro prospects. Let’s not forget Ward has a SOLID NBA career. He could have easily played in the NFL for years but NBA money was guaranteed and certainly a safer option. I think Charlie made the right choice. He was very good on some nice Knick teams.

Multitasker State University. Neon Deion played MLB and NFL. Chris Weinke played pro baseball but never played The Show before going back to school at FSU. Joe Mauer signed a letter of intent to QB at FSU but went pro baseball. Winston was drafted 15R by the Texas Rangers but took the scholarship and pitched effectively at FSU for two seasons while there. Jalen Ramsey was a long jumper on the track team (24’11” best).

As good as Ward turned out as a pro hoopster, he didn’t accomplish as much as GOAT Nole Dave Cowens. I actually saw a game in tiny Tully Gym there one night that featured Cowens vs Louisville and Wes Unseld.

We had a full house of Gator and Cane fans roaming I-Drive last night and earlier today. They’re at the stadium now, about 10 miles away. Maybe some biz after they return. Beautiful night for the game...about 85F and clear skies with a breeze.

Looking like another classic Florida team ranked way too high at the beginning of the year only to go on a “streak” at end of year, win some 2nd or 3rd tier bowl, get high ranking for next year because of it. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah outside of a risky fake punt followed by one horrible defensive play by the Hurricanes, the Gators are not looking too great. @Kevin T, I had my first IPA in a few months at dinner to celebrate the start of the CFB season.

To their credit they do look legit in those aforementioned end of year streaks but need to be able to do it in August and September too.

This year especially with a very difficult early season slate with Auburn and LSU back to back. That’s in October but the same sentiment applies.
