The Babolat Pure Strike Project Two Zero Thread

I may be wrong but I think the stffness has not been decreased. Babolat states 70 RA for the 98 and 72 for the 100. The dampening system is supposed to improve comfort of the new models. Whether this dampening system has a striking effect remains to be clarified by users.
Thanks for your feedback. You measured 68 RA strung, while Babolat provided unstrung RA. There is no real discrepancy between these results. I read other reviews from some players who just found a slight difference in feel compared to the 2017.
As @haqq777 mentioned above, the RA rating does not fully show the comfort of the racket so don't go by that alone. I have been playing with the new pure strike 100 and I played with previous version for the longest time, and the feedback is very different for me even though on paper they may be same RA. The newer one plays more muted and smoother and less vibrations. Previous one was definitely more pingy too. I use Hyper G string at 52 pounds...

I have a couple of Swirlys, the original Pure Controls, as well as a couple of Pure Storms GT Tours. I didn't particularly like the last gen of the Pure Control Tours but still good racquets. They are very different from Pure Strike line. Your best bet for at-home feedback is the Pure Strike VS line which shares the same mold as last gen of Pure Controls. The third gen of Pure Strike VS is still to launch here in US so I would keep an eye out for those.
Dumbest thing I ever did was sell my Swirly +s. I had 4, and they were all in excellent condition.

So, there will be a VS version? Was about to comment on it missing when I saw your comment. Wonder if they'll also do a '+' for us 'vertically challenged' players...

I feel the same way about the review. I was expecting a lot more enthusiasm from the play testers. Jason obviously doesn't feel it's better than the P17. And Chris said that he preferred the way the ball came off of the P17's stringbed. He said that the ball came off much quicker "in and out" with the P17. I'm actually a little disappointed. I had really high hope's for this one.
Yeah I was really excited about this update.
The project one 7 has been my racket for just over a year now. I was using the ultra tour and as much as I loved the feel and control of it I just wasn’t playing effective tennis with it. The P17 for me just has a perfect blend of control and power while still maintaining some feel. About the only thing I could ask for on my 17 was a little more touch/feel. I feel like the other Babolat series of rackets are too powerful and feel completely hollow and muted. So to hear that this new version is more muted and has more power is for me personally a step backwards.
I’m sure some people will enjoy it though. If a friend buys one I would love to give it a hit and try it out but I personally won’t be buying one based on what I’ve heard in that review. And like a lot of you I’m a holic so I don’t need much motivation generally to buy a racket!

I got mine in hand today. Pure strike 98 16/19. Weight and balance are on point but swingweight is noticeably higher than the P17, on my stick the SW should be 330+. The TW review is on point, the ball stays longer than the 2nd gen, more close to the 1sr gen pure strike. Very muted feel with surprisingly decent control (unlike CV and Graphene touch) 2nd gen although it’s a great racket and lots of people love it, it feels more like a pure drive with better control(which imo is a true 98 pure drive, hate the pure drive VS, huge disappointment) I can see why Dominic Thiem skip the p17 and switched to this 3rd gen because it is more close to the 1st gen. Not as precise as the 1st gen (imo 1st gen pure strike is probably the best combination of spin and control) compare to 1st gen, 3rd gen is more comfortable, more stable, more powerful and slightly more spin, but less control and feedback. A little bit too powerful and muted for me though. Great racket for baseline game, but when I come into the court I don’t feel as confident. Will keep testing it for sure and see if I want another string combination. Strung with my go to setup: Solinco tour bite @50 lbs.

No way it is 330+ SW. The tour version of the 3rd gen is only 333 SW.

With TW posted average sw of 327, you can EASILY get one 330+. I've custom ordered plenty of racquets from TW with my desired specs (unmodified) and 10 pt sw difference between 2 racquets is nothing. Plus Babolat is not known for the best QC.

Liek. I was very tempted by the PS amongst many other new releases. But the dampened feel everyone is talking about pretty much elimiated it from the competetion. One less option to consider is a good thing.

If you talking about TW specs. What TW usually do is they just pick 10 rackets randomly and get the average SW. So if you buy a pure strike or even pure strike tour, yours can be 335+ SW or 320+ SW. That’s just how it works. My customized pure strike 1st gen is 328SW (actually all my 4 pure strikes are customized on TW machine by the Guru Mr Paul Rand) so I know this new pure strike stick in my hand it’s 100% 330+.

Yeah it is very dampened. I don’t consider it as a good or bad thing though. Lots of people like PD or PA but just want a bit more control and softer feel, this new PS might fits them well.

Yes, Swirlys are beasts. I know the + had around 350 or so swingweight. Can only imagine how they would obliterate the ball. I have the regular length PCT. They are still crazy good with around 335 swingweight. Best Pure Controls ever made.

Yes, VS will be launched in 2021 (TW confirmed line update but no official confirmation yet). Seperate launch date than Pure Strike line. Current ones are on sale so great time to stock up. Not sure about '+' but I don't think they had those in 2nd gen PS VS so chances aren't looking great for 3rd gen. I don't use extended (messes with my OHBH) but God knows I could use them. The SW of the new 98 Strikes (16x19 and especially 18x20) seems pretty high based on values provided by TW. I'm wondering if it could just reflect the fact that they tested a batch of racquets on the higher end of SW? I remember the Prince Tour100 310 showed a pretty high SW on their website when released before it was updated with a lower value. I think Babolat did not provide any "official" SW value for these racquets.

The 18x20 strikes are definitely heftier than the previous versions. They swing heavier than previous versions

Lets stop chatting and start play testing these new pure strikes. Some of us need some opinions to see if they wanna grab one and try it out :X3: :D

I used both the previous 100 and the new version the last two weeks and the difference in feel is significant - obvious from the first hit.

I hit with the tour version yesterday....Coming from a Yonex VCORE Pro 330.

Strung the PS with vs gut mains at 54 rpm cross at 51.

Coming from a dead Yonex frame with a ton of feel, this frame has a ton of pop. I really noticed on my serves and my ground strokes on slower balls that this frame is much more lively. Again comparing it to Yonex but this was a welcome addition at times. My serves had a ton of action and my forehand was a bigger weapon. There where a couple return of serves that surprised me due to the pace coming off the racquet. Missed a few that slightly hit the top or inside of the string bed and I knew immediately where the ball struck the string bed.

I hit for about 45 minutes of rallying and serves and then played two sets....My forehand was big but what I struggled with was a finesse shot to pull people off the court for a short wide angle dipper. I was missing long but I have no doubt I could dial this in. I didn't account for the added pop on these shots so I think if I swung a bit harder the added spin would bring it down or up my string tension could go up slightly. Just need some more time with the frame.

At net I enjoyed it. Its a high swing weight but I really liked the mass of the racquet and the HL balance is nice as well for a net game. I had no problems hitting a deep volley after serve or dropping a few wide with touch. I would think about a leather grip to make it even more head light to bring the specs a bit closer to the Yonex.

Overall I was very impressed by the racquet. It was very stable, tons of controllable power (relative to a dead Yonex pro frame) and feel was also good. I never hit any of the other versions of this racquet but comparing it to just the Vcore pro 97 330 that I hit with for about 1 1/2 years, this seems like a winner if you like the bigger specs. I am going to hit with this raquet for another week or two but may be making a switch.

Cheers

Just FYI - The unstrung weight of the PST 3rd gen is 11.3oz. TW has a strung weight of 12oz, but that could be with an overgrip and dampener, since strings should only add about .6oz, making it 11.9oz strung.

Yeah I was wondering about that too. The PST comes at 320g unstrung. Poly strings add maybe 16 or 17 grams on a 16x19 pattern. Not sure how T dubs got to 340g strung. They measure strung weight without overgrip and dampener.

It could be that the racquet they tested came a few grams over spec. Sounds likely given QC.

TW comes up with its specs by evaluating several racquets of the same model.

It could be that more of the ones it sampled came in above the printed specs than below.

I am so f angry. On all their promo videos they say that they didn’t change sth drastic to the specs. Why the f did they increased the SW on 98 pure strikes ? Why the f??[emoji36][emoji2959]

Maybe they did not increase the SW that much. What Karma Tennis says above is possible. As I already mentioned, it happened that TW update the SW of a racquet (eg Prince Tour 100 310 SW got "decreased"). However another reliable retailer in France provides an unstrung value of 300 (about 330 strung). Not Thor hammer but still hefty.

I am mostly interested on the 18 20 version. The SW is on Blades level and slightly more. I am so disappointed. On TW they mentioned the more cumbersome swinging even on 16 19 version where the SW was slightly increased.

SW:325 Vs 334

18x20 swingweight has definitely been increased but personally, i do not find it to be too cumbersome. I also love the new more muted feel of the frame because of elbow issues i have had in the past but we will see how the racquet continues to play. I have my first tournament with it in a month so i am looking forward to dialing myself in with the new frame.

So you were using the previous 18 20 model as your main stick ?

But they take an average of the racquets they get. I am not sure how many racquets they measure to come up with their average for specs. I think its just a mistake

I think I made a typo there which I just realised.

I knew that TW takes average. I meant to say "it could be that the racquets they tested came a few grams over spec". Meaning it could be a batch that was over spec.

One little 'S' changed the whole meaning of my sentence lol

It’s the first non generic review from Texpress. 67flex and increased SW. Babolat has taken a more players racquet route with the new gen of strike.

Anyone know if they’ll be updating the Strike VS and VS tour also? Can’t remember reading a single word about it...

What kind of update it's this ? Maybe P07 review wasn't too realistic ?
It’s really a non update imho they took a page out of apples book and made a small iteration on an existing product.
If you have previous version of the strike simply tie a rubber band dampener instead of regular dampener and you have v3

So gen 3 has more power? Thought P17 had too much power. What’s the power like on the tour model?
