Do you see Nadal winning one more US Open title?

Will Nadal 1 more US Open?

I would love to see him win another US Open title to tie the Open era record of Federer, Sampras and Connors. It would be crazy for Rafa Nadal if he were to win one more to get his 5th US Open. Somehow I feel like he loves playing on Arthur Ashe as much as he does on Philippe Chatrier. He just happens to be better on PC (clay).

That being said, his 4th US Open title was a hard-earned one. Medvedev showed so much fight and heart in the final. Rafa was totally exhausted by the 5th set. Another title here is going to be very difficult for him as he will be 34 next year. And I don't see him winning any major after turning 36. Next 2 years would be his only chances for another title at USO imo.

Anything is possible, but he'll need a good draw. This one was great, there were some tricky players but they put him on course as he could test his groundgame and get a feeling for the court. Part of what held him back at Wimbledon was that his defense wasn't really tested, he had big servers and subpar baseliners before running into Fed.

I actually think he likes playing on Ashe more when it comes to the energy and crowd. The French like him now but it's been a long road and I don't think he's ever forgotten how cold they were towards him for years.

Yes, but honestly, I think the fact there is such a big difference in his AO and USO titles is just bad luck, not just because he loves the USO specifically. Had he faced similar draws as the last two US Opens (not using this as an excuse to downgrade his wins, in case anyone thinks that) at the AO, or heck, even 2010/2013 with weaker Djokers, he could have won more AO's as well and the US Open would have stood out less in his resumé. I don't think he's that much worse in Melbourne, if at all, in terms of his level of play. His AO luck is basically as bad as Murray's, aside from that one final win against Fed in 2009 that he managed to eek out. Heck, he made the same amount of finals in both slams.

But as to your question, he can win another US Open, sure.

Overall I’d say his level is weaker at AO because Nadal’s peak season form usually takes place from April to early September, but he is def better in Australia than average 1-time champ should be.

This. He just so happen to be fresher at the AO but his game is better when the USO comes around.

If Nadal and Djokovic can have Federer's longevity (and they are doing better in their early 30s than he was), he could potentially reach 2-3 more finals there. So I say yes, pretty good chance.

He can also reach 3-4 more RG finals, and perhaps 1 AO final (generally not his best part of the season).

I seriously doubt he makes a Wimbledon final again. But he has 2 SFs in a row...

After the wars he has been through in New York the last 2 years I'm not holding my breath. Enjoying the immensity of this one, not worrying about 12 months from now.
Hell of a story these last 2 years in NY. There was a feeling of understatement after Rafa retired in Semi against Del Potro, but he came back and finished the story in appropriate way.

Rafa needs to focus on winning the AO. Another AO Title gives him a Dual Career GRAND SLAM and the first Male player to achieve it in the Open Era.

If Rafa misses at the AO, and Novak just happens to win RG next year, then Novak gets the Dual Career GRAND SLAM and he would become the first Male player to achieve it in the Open Era.

Last year it was terrible. All the suffering was for nothing. All he got in reward for going through that draw is a serious injury, while Djokovic won the title with a joke of a draw. At least this year it was all worth it, he got the title.

I am sure Rafa and his team will target the AO 2020. I don't doubt that. Djokovic and Federer however are better than him at the AO right now while that isn't exactly the case at US Open.

He needs to come up with a new gameplan vs Djokerer at AO/W.

That seems to be the case, although I always feel like Rafa's forehand seems somehow more potent on Arthur Ashe than on RLA. It just seems to get more bite on this court. I haven't seen him blasting forehands on RLA as often as he does on Arthur Ashe.
Rafas Forehead is explosive on Arthur Ashe, I think AA takes spin from Rafas forehand really well..RLA is more slicker court, specially since AO 2017, the ball doesn't bite as well..

AO 2009 and USO 2010 were both such a high level you could say AO 2009 was better if you wanted.
AO 2012 could be over 2013 USO with room of debate.

AO 2012 had a better narrative than 2013 USO, but imo the level of play from both Nadal and Djokovic in the final was way below their average. 2013 USO Nadal probably straight sets AO 2012 Djokovic.

Tennis Australia has commissioned GreenSet to lay the new courts for the AO 2020.

We don't know exactly how the courts will play next year. It is likely things will change but we are yet to know who they will favour.

January 2020 is also forecast to be very hot and very humid in Melbourne. This could mean the courts play much slower than in the last few years.

It's quite likely this is his last non-FO slam title. He has one or two more FOs in him, but who knows whether he'll win them.

He doesn't have to tie RF for slams, they're close enough as to make it quite clear that RF isn't the best of the Big 3 era, let alone GOAT. Nobody is GOAT of course,

Also hit the inside-out and DTL forehand well.

His ground game is still good enough against them. It's the free points he gives them by standing so far back to receive their first serves that has been his main problem against them. He still breaks their serves but gives away way too many free points on their first serves.

It's hard to predict where Nadal goes from here. He was so clearly nervous after Fed and Djokovic went out – which is strange, since he was in the same situation in 2017 and didn't blink once. This year, he nearly blew a two-sets-and-a-break lead to a first-time slam finalist who was, as he admitted, already thinking about what he was going to say in his runner-up speech. Also, the level he displayed throughout the fortnight does not look like it would have been enough to defeat an in-form Djokovic or even Federer, and with Medvedev now gaining experience and other young, dangerous player continuing to rise up, it'll probably only get harder from here.

Would not be at all shocked if he never wins another major off clay. But I won't be shocked if he does, either.

I don't think Nadal could win the Islamic State Open as it says in your poll options, but I do see him winning maybe just one more US Open title.

Best chance next year of course, but it's unlikely. Maybe 2021 if he's still competitive.

He should stand on the baseline to return serves against Djokovic and just chip the returns. Stan has exposed Novak's inability to put those away the way Fed or Rafa can.

He keeps surprising me, but I don't know how much longer he'll e able to keep it up. I think once the dam breaks and one of these young guys wins a slam, the door might close permanently on the big 3.

I don't want to say that he will but he definitely has a shot if he stays healthy and has an opportunity to take the slam lead or add to his lead.

I very much doubt that ONE NextGen slam will completely change everything. That's overly cinematic and dramatic, more for movies than real sports.

Nadal has two more years to win a few more Majors.
So, yes, Nadal has a great chance in 2020 and a good chance in 2021.
Then, is time to say goodbye!

Pretty much. If he wins a slam at age 34 and/or 35 that alone would be extraordinary.

Because 2005... all the way to 2020/2021. Huge stretch between first and last slams.

Let's look at Federer's career in the Grand Slams:

His first final was 2003 and his last final was in 2019: 16 years.

If Nadal equals this, it will mean that he has a great chance of winning Majors until RG 2021, when he will be 35 years old. He will be a little older than the oldest male champion: his countryman, Andrés Gimeno, who won the French Open at the age of 34 years and 10 months.

Then, after RG 2021, his chances of winning a slam will be extremely difficult. That is the reason why I believe that his chance to win the US Open 2021 will be only good, but remember that Andre Agassi was a finalist there with more than 35 years and 4 months.

Nadal is already the oldest male champion in the US Open since playing on hard courts (1978).
He won at age age of 33 years, 3 months and 5 days.

I think Nadal likes playing on Arthur Ashe more than he likes playing on Philip Chatrier at Roland Garros.
Not necessarily because clay is his domain but because he loves the fans and the atmosphere a lot more at Flushing Meadows. The fans in Paris aren't anywhere near as appreciative towards him as the New York fans are.
