So Nadal is planning to play Laver Cup, WTF, Davis Cup and ATP Cup

Playing Laver Cup is obviously a stupid decision. Especially if we remember he is getting injured too much at the end of seasons, and he wasted a lot of energy in USO. Ironically the last time when he had a decent end of a season was in 2015. He was losing so early during the whole year that he had no chance to get injured.

He is not going to get injured at LC...

Plus, the dude likes tennis, it is his passion, and he likes camaraderie. I believe he enjoys the LC. That is why he is playing. Passion is huge for guys like Rafa and Fed.

I enjoyed LC in 2017. But this year Nadal definitely had it much tougher at the USO.

I see him playing casual like tennis, just enjoying it. He might even play one less singles match. I just better get me some more Fed Rafa doubles.

Fed knows better, Fh smash... give it to Rafa...bh smash... give it to Fed.

I know you don't like Fed, but for me LC is awesome cause I get to see my two favs having fun together on the same side of the court. I do think he enjoys that aspect too.
LC is controversial to me. From one point it was fun in 2017 and we got the fantasy team up of Federer/Nadal. From the other, I’m sure you’re familiar with the stat "Nadal’s results on hard courts" where he retired or withdrew basically from every second hc tourney over the last few years, so the risk is there. Also adding matches from it into h2h seems like another portion of mindgames and tricks from Federer and his business partners in ATP headship.

Yeah, but he gets injured when playing at full capacity. He will play like 60% here. Plus he will only play 2, maybe 3 short matches.

As far as h2h goes, playing world team is irrelevant for the h2h for Fed and Rafa.

Laver Cup: Federer.
WTF: Is not an exho and never it will be. He has a chance to win that title this year.
Davis Cup: Is in his country and he is a friend of Pique.
ATP CUP: A Good preparation for the AO 2020 and will be played on GreenSet, the same surface as Paris Bercy, WTF, Davis Cup and the Aussie Slam.
Perfect adaptation for the Spaniard I say.

Ok, that’s another way to look at it. You made me feel a bit more positive. :)

Strange he would skip Shanghai and Paris. Both are Masters tournaments which will get him many points and a bigger lead in Masters titles over the others plus help him get the #1 ranking. Instead he's playing nonsense exhibitions and silly Davis Cup that will do nothing for him. Really strange.

I am sure someone who has 19 slams under his kitty knows how to plan his schedule.

And a team environment is something that I am sure Nadal enjoys. Maybe he doesn't look at world no 1 position the way some of his fans do? Maybe enjoying tennis and being competitive is what drives him?

ATP Cup? What the heck is that?

That's what I wanna know lol

He said as much. Plus I don't see Djokovic killing himself for asia this year.

He should not be at the Laver Cup, it does nothing for his legacy, it would be better to rest and play selective tournaments for the rest of the year one of Shanghai / Paris and WTF. ATP Cup is probably not a bad idea for an AO warm up if his body is feeling good and because he plays for a strong nation, there is a good chance for some big ranking points.

He’ll play Paris. I only reffered to exho events in this thread.

Laver Cup is worthless, but when Nadal makes a commitment to Federer, he always keeps it (unless injured). They've helped out each other's pet projects over the years (Federer turned up for opening of Rafa' s Academy, which was a big deal for him)
...and Nadal just sort of feels obligated now.

At the same time, if Nadal needs Federer to take part in something (ie Real Madrid wanting to stage an exho between the two), he knows Fed will likely do it, because he owes him. Works both ways.

Is it worth buying tickets to see Nadal and Federer playing as a doubles team?

Plus to that, Rafa has promised to play for Fed's foundation in South Africa in February 2020:

As for opening Rafa's academy in 2016, Fed was just a guest at the Inauguration ceremony, but they have played exhos since at least 2007:

Considering he didn't even wait a full day before hitting the golf course, I think he's feeling well apart from some fatigue. LC will be a great way to get used to indoor HC, very low stakes and a fun environment. WTF is not debatable as long as he's feeling well and you'll never get him to skip DC if he thinks he's up for it. Plus, isn't ATP Cup in January? Warm-up for AO, perfect. I'm pretty happy with this schedule, especially since it's not a full Masters where he has to play every single day for a week. Hope he skips Bercy as well.

The ATP finals is a mandatory event (for those who qualify).

I'm fine with that. The ATP Cup is just warm up for AO anyway. He isn't practicing atm, just resting and recovering. He'll play the LC soon, probably won't be anywhere near his best but it's an exho anyway, then hopefully he'll rest, get married en start practice again towards the end of october and finish the season with Paris, WTF and DC. Although I'd prefer he'd skip one of Paris and DC, probably DC.

@alexio88 And after posts like above I’m told to be softer to them. :-D This thread isn’t even about GOAT debate or something.

Oh, we will slay fraud and his natics. :)
