Best root beer?

I've tried a couple brands at Safeway: A&W, Mug and Barq's.
But none of those on the shelves seem to have any caffeine.

As Yosemite Sam would say when walking into a bar, "sasparilly, and make it snappy!";)

Dad's, A&W, Barqs, ...all good. I'd also have to say Sioux City is best.

I think Barq’s is trash, too acidic, not enough vanilla, and needlessly caffeinated.

Mug’s, Safeway, and Thomas Kemper aren’t very good either.

For me, there are two that rise above.

My #2 rootbeer is A&W vanilla.

And my dominant #1 is Henry Weinhart’s.
This is what rootbeer should taste like.

Was trying to remember the name of the only root beer I don't like....Mug. The official drink of pro tennis players who don't stand a chance.

These now are specialized Root Beer brands with color glass bottles and offering only 8 or 12 oz. They are very pricey! So much that they are sold in liquor stores next to the sole refrigerated beers section. About $4-$6 a bottle!

Root beer is so disgusting.... liquid black licorice :p

Most are also made with Vanilla extract as well. ;)

I love a good Root Beer! My vote for best diet is Barq's, but A&W isn't bad either.

For the fully leaded version, St. Arnold (craft Brewery here in Houston) makes a fantastic Root Beer!

Back in the day they had an A&W restaurant in a gas station where they sold draft rootbeer. Whatever was in the was way better than anything else I have ever had. They got rid of that A&W and other A&W's don't have the fancy rootbeer just they regular stuff in the sodafountains. They also no longer have corndog nuggets and are usally a half A&W half Long Dong Silvers. Thos eplaces are not very good.

Of what is around me and readily available to purchase IBC is my preferred.

Agree. And I have tried Stewart's, but prefer IBC. I did used to love A&W from an A&W, not the stuff they sold in stores.

Oh yeah, I forgot about IBC. I used to buy it fairly regularly, but then they got all cheap and reduced the package from 6 bottles to 4 and kept the price the same or even jacked it up.

A few months ago, on a radio food program, there was an interview with a rep from Sweden's museum of disgusting foods ( I'm not making this up). Each day they serve 16 to 20 samples for visitors to taste. Turns out most of the world's people (other than USA) find root beer to be repulsive.
