Should Federer take break from Tennis?

I think he needs it to recover from soul crushing loss. Just skip remaining season, take rest, spend time with family and see whether it works.

He's less than 2 years from his 40th birthday and is world 3. Barring injury, of course he's still going to be automatically qualifying for draws when he turns 40.
You're underestimating how fast a player's decline can be. Look at Berdych and Tsonga as recent examples, Gasquet too; they're way younger than Fedr

Spend time with his family....dude millions of dads barely see their children because they have to work their a**es off.

I agree he needs to forget about tennis for a while, though.

For the next, ooooooh...40 years or so maybe. :)

Teasing aside, that second set was epic, but overall just enough or that...just enough to win he used to always seem to be able to dip into. The pendullum has swung a bit. We will see how he feels mentally by year end.

Federer should call it a career now. At least he could claim that no one broke his slam or weeks at #1 records whilst he was still active. If both those records go when he is still playing, what would he have left? Fans' favourite and perennial winner of the sportsmanship award.

Federer exhausted his last effort at Wimbledon 2019. We already know how it turned out.
The Swiss is now like your milk stored in your refrigerator: It is an expired product.

It looks more and more like 2020 will be his last season.

As a Nadal fan, I have nothing but respect for Roger, and it will be a sad day for true tennis fans to see the Swiss maestro hang up his racquet.

For you, Nadal fans, he seems to retire since 2011...
Everytime its the same, he saying that he would play for a lot longer and people know better and claim retirement, he just signed a contract for a tournament till 2023

don't be a jagoff ;)

He was one point from winning his 9th Wimbledon beating both Nadal and Djokovic back to back. He can still raise his level at slams.
What’s he done for me lately? Looked invariably sluggish on hard courts.

We don't know what kind of contract. To become its Chairman after retiring?

Such a contract can mean many things.

Shall we create a post regarding Djokovic retirement after his lost today against Tsisipas?

Should we had created a post regarding how Thiem beat Nadal on clay?

Or can we just appreciate the fact that we live in an Era with 2 generations in the top 10 playing great tennis?

If you look hard enough, I'm sure you will find such threads about Nadal.

I can barely last 2 hours in amateur match if I rested 3 days before this. I honestly don't know how Federer finds the energy to play day after day, especially like today, running all around the court like energized bunny.

You forget a minor detail, the guy is 38 years old, buddy.

Nothing but an accelerated decline awaits him. Do you think someone who has been called the GOAT for most of his career will still hang around after he’s no longer competitive in slams or even BO3? His ego and legacy will not allow him to.

It eventually happens to everyone. Federer's movement is noticeably garbage compared to even a couple years ago. Only thing he's got is serve.
Yes I know that it happens to everyone but I don´t see Federer in two years declining from number 3 and a real contender at every tournament, to a nobody that can win barely a round
