Glad he made a good decision for himself! Must be tough and disappointing for fans and it being in Russia

It is a good decision. He needs to let the little ones go for the bigger ones. Vienna and Paris are more important. Little sad to have to wait a week for (hopefully) 7 in a row.

The return of the Mad Lad is imminent! Paris Masters starts on Monday. Interesting stat for Mad Lad enthusiasts: if he wins out (5-0 in Paris, 5-0 in London), he'll have a top 5 season of all time in terms of hard court wins in a season. He's 46-9 if you include Davis Cup (45-9 without). Record is 59 in 2006 by Roger Federer and in 2015 by Novak Djokovic.

And would almost guarantee he'll be #1 after Miami20 at worst .

Guys what do you think happened to Meddy after Shanghai, to cause four losses in a row?? What will his early 2020 look like?

Was watching this, and it's just crazy that his strength is his speed on the court, not necessarily any of his strokes, like a tall De Minaur:

Have there been any tall players in the past who can move as well as Daniil?

Mecir, aka The Big Cat, would be the closest but he was at least three inches shorter, still quite tall for his era.

Med should absolutely have been defaulted for this behavior. The meltdowns among the next gen p-ssies this week have been whiny brat meltdowns. They all need to grow a pair.

Yes, it can only go so far. Remember when Nalbandian got defaulted when he hit that sign and it accidentally made the line umpire bleed. Not sure why Med didn't get it or did he need to make the umpire bleed first?

Mad Lad's projected AO campaign in 2020:

1R: Tiafoe
2R: Köpfer/Qualifier
3R: Tsonga
4R: Wawrinka/Isner/Kecmanovic
QF:Zverev/Goffin/Rublev
SF: Nadal/Thiem/Monfils/Khachanov/Kyrgios
F: Djokovic/Federer/Tsitsipas/Berrettini/RBA
Apart from 2nd round, issa tuff draw 4 sure
tennis_pro wouldn’t be able to complain if he wins

If his form is similar to Washington through Shanghai,t hen he has a real chance to win this.

You think he has a real chance to defeat Nadal and Djokovic back to back? Or are you assuming one or both will lose before meeting Med?

I think there's a decent chance one will lose. Just a gut feeling as obviously it's very difficult to point at one match for a big 3 player and say they're losing here.

I'm not particularly confident for Rafa at the AO this year. From yesterday to today his odds went from +300 to +400.

After his narrow miss at the US Open I really thought he was primed and ready to go one better at the next Slam. Instead, he couldn't even make it to any of the Big 3 and crashed out to a guy more than a decade older than him (albeit to the only other player who is a former champion).

Has to be a big setback for him and his confidence.

Alright Medheads, schedule going forward will be:

02/03 Off

02/17 Marseilles 250
02/24 Off
03/02 Off
03/09 Indian Wells Masters (2 weeks)

He's only defending 205 total points, while those 4 tournaments represent 2,750 total points. Good chances of moving up in points over the next 2 months.

Indian Wells is just about here! Going in to the tournament, Daniil is only defending 45 points. At the start of the tournament, with points dropping from IW2019, it'll look like this:

NamePoints InPoints DefendingPoints Pre-Tournament
Dominic Thiem #3704510006045
Roger Federer #466306006030
Daniil Medvedev #55890455890

So, he will be 140 points behind Federer and 155 points behind Thiem. Another great opportunity to move up. Fed obviously isn't participating, so he simply needs a QF (180 points) to leapfrog him. To pass up Thiem, he needs a QF plus a Thiem 2nd round loss, or at least get one round further than Thiem with a SF or better (SF vs QF, F vs SF, W vs F). He will pass Federer no matter what after Miami, but it'd be nice to jump from #5 to #3 in the next two weeks, given an excellent opportunity to do so.
