he was old his back hurt his beard made him less aerodynamic and they’ve already slowed down the courts by 2007
okay , good comment but do you think little odd that peak fed lost twice in row at somebody dosen't make his life on major SF ?

It was definitely weird that it happened back to back like that but Canas was the type of player peak Fed lost to (along with young Murray, Simon, heck even Volandri).
As others have said, all good things come to an end and at IW Canas was a wall and Fed was making errors.
Again, weird that pretty much the same thing happened a few weeks later, you'd think Fed would have been ready to exact some revenge, but give Canas (however you feel about him) credit: he was excited to be back on tour and had no reason to fear a guy he beat very recently.

Fed's level dropped off in 2007. He started putting up fewer breadsticks that year. He was also straight-setted 4 times that year, his worst number in that category since 2003. Fed was less dominant in 2007 than in 2004-2006.

Slight drop in consistency outside of the slams, his return game tanked that year - left him a bit more vulnerable to return bots/grinders like Canas.

Canas came back with a lot of energy and vigor after that 2 year doping suspension. His own words.
He was beating a lot of good players in his run in Miami including Gasquet, Federer, and Lujubic and making the final against Djokovic who won his maiden Masters title. They played a fairly competitive match.

I was a big Fedfan back then and was irritated to hell by those 2 Canas losses. In fact, I still am!

Fed losing twice to Canas is one of the great mysteries of the world. Still scratching my head about it.

Canas wasn't a one-off (or two-off rather), Federer was just prioritizing events he cared about the most = Slams, MS right before the Slams, WTF and Basel and he won all of them except the FO.

Fed clearly wasn't giving 100% in the Masters, remember he only won 2 of them in 2007.

That said I'll bet it's something Canas will be able to boast (and bore?) to his kids and grandkids for a long time to come.

I was in Indian Wells that year and had tickets for the SF. Fed was dealing with horrible foot blisters. Might be one reason why he lost. If I remember correctly I ended up seeing Nadal make a fool out of Andy Roddick In the SF. As far as Miami...I think Fed was just outplayed but I do remember the crowd being quite loud and hostile which he was annoyed about.

PS! Why the hell did Djokovic lose to RBA twice in a row in 2019?
Novak lost twice in the span of two weeks to this fellow...

That I can understand. Sick talent, no matter how much people hate his guts.

But RBA? ;)

2017 demotivated Djokovic, plus it was IW and Acapulco.

Kyrgios was very lucky he didn’t meet him in 2019, especially at Slams and after the comments he aimed at Djoker.

Hey, I hear you, and I am one of the few who love Nick here. Those who deny his talent are either blind and just plain clueless. It doesn't matter how many times you tell them talent is something you're BORN with, they still think someone like Raonic or RBA can "learn" it. Waste of time at this point to repeat it another 100 times.

Classic remark from someone here: "Zverev has way more natural talent than anyone in this pic, especially Nick.":eek:

It was not a very serious comment, although I like Kyrgios' tennis a lot.

But two losses in a row on HC to RBA in a year when Novak was #1 for almost the entire year, is pretty bad...

I love Nick's tennis, too. As a spectator, I really like to laugh out loud in disbelief at things he does. That's a huge part of my passion for tennis. At the same time, I really dislike him throwing chairs and being a *****. I really hope he gets over it. Fantastic to watch when it clicks!

I have utmost respect for those who play it safe, it's obviously a simpler route if you want to win matches. But then again, Coric just isn't fun to watch at all - almost annoyingly predictable.

It seems like a joke now, but a lot of people and the media were saying he was getting old and his reign would end soon

That was reality back then. Players didn’t always peak in their late 20’s and virtually never in their 30’s

IW blinked the first set away then had some leg issue in the second set, even had a trainer look at it at one changeover. The streak had to stop at some point, why did Djokovic lose to Vesely hmm. Miami was a total screwup for no reason though, weird loss...

Even now they still don't. Moderns medicine just allows them to maintain a great level.

That and the ineptitude of the younger ones.

Heck, even at IW 2016 there were signs that Djoker could not maintain his best level.

Noel sliding out of peak was apparent as soon as he started his IW campaign by dropping a 2-6 set to Bjorn Fratangelo. Sure, Djovak fixed himself and didn't lose another set all tournament, but that was already enough, peakovic would've never allowed himself to giftwrap a set to a qualifier. I knew he wasn't going to be so dominant anymore then, although of course he crashed out more spectacularly than expected.
