Up to a certain level, even normally good players can be thrown off by wild spin and junk balls. These "spin artists" (to be polite) do not usually make it past the 4.0 or, at best, 4.5 level.
Part of the reason is that hard balls are not that difficult to return-- because they generally bounce to your confort zone, are fairly consistant and predictable and have enough pace so that you do not have to create your own pace from scratch.
And-- junk balls will tend to throw off a player who is not totally confident in their shot production.
But after the 4.0+ level, the spin/junk players become extremely rare. A player with good movement and confident strokes will beat them every time.
That is not to say that hard hitters should not, also, be masters of spin. You can hit hard with spin (obviously).
