Prince Official - Racquets

I can't translate everything that is being said here because I am not fluent in Japanese. I can say that this is a racquet that we have been developing for some time (along with another headsize version). As already stated earlier in this discussion, the Japanese market and introduction timings can be different and usually earlier than the global markets. In the case of this particular model it is unlikely to exist globally in this exact execution but it is scheduled for a global release later in the year.

That's great news. Went onto the Japan website to look at the specs of the Phantom Graphite 100, which are interesting. Swing weight is given at 285 unstrung, which would be around 315 strung. This is too low for a control oriented frame, and it probably needs 5 to 10g additional static weight to bump up the swing weight and get a decent plow through while keeping a head light balance. I am hoping that this is the way you'll be going, instead of polarising the frame with an equivalent static weight (a la Phantom 100P).

Also, a 95 sq. in. version would be awesome.

Right now there's no plans to discontinue this model for 2020, so for now you're in the clear. I'm so glad that you like it! It's definitely not a racquet for everyone with the swingweight on that thing, but if you can get it around there's not a more stable and powerful tweener on the market!
But where can I buy them???

Interesting specs on the white Phantom 107 G JPN...
21.5-20-17.5mm

But man, the paintjob on the Phantom G's really are a beauty... matte-black with a hit of green. Those are my Prince colors!

As I've never tried Textreme, I'm intrigued.

@Prince Tennis Official
Would there be any chance of releasing the Prince Rebel 95 mold as a solid beam/traditional grommet offering? Owned the frame in the past and always wished there was a version without the ports i.e. like the Phantom Pro 100 without the ports.

I think there is a gap in the market for a softer playing 95, many have described the frame to have similar playing characteristics to the Head Pro 630. There is a massive following for the Head Pro Tour 630 and no frame on the market that addresses that following. If the 93p has been a success, don't see why a re-worked Rebel 95 couldn't be successful.

Seeing how the Prestige line has lost a lot of loyal Head fans, seems like the an opportunity.

Agree!! The Rebel/Tour 95 are brilliant frames. Would love to see a modern remake with a phantom colour scheme. Perhaps a phantom 95 with a 20 mm beam and more open string pattern. @Prince Tennis Official

One suggestion about the Phantom Graphite when it's released here - I love the look, but I'd love for the word 'Graphite' to appear on the crossbar like with the POG (or maybe 'Phantom' might be a good changeup). Anyway, I'm excited about the 107 model. I've been looking for a lighter, quicker replacement for the POG OS I've used for 30 years. I like the fact that it might be lighter than what I'd like - it gives me the opportunity to weight it up to my preference.

sorry if it's been posted already, but these are the pages on prince japan's website for the phantom graphite
Phantom Graphite 100
Phantom Graphite 107
Phantom 107 G Japan Limited
As a reference to our talk about extended frames - look how they went from 27.25 to 27 inches (Textreme Graphite vs Phantom Graphite). Which can be interpreted that the extended length, as written here, can be tough to swallow for some. Or not... we don't know the reason.

As per Prince frames and my personal experience - which I've outlined a couple pages back (sidenote: fantastic to see such a lively discussion without the reps going MIA).
Never was a racketoholic when it came to Prince frames (my racketoholism peeked with Yonex frames... at one time I had like 14 Yonex Pro RD 70 Long 95s) I had my share of Prince retails and prostocks though..
Currently still have these though I'll be downsizing, preferably only to the TC189P since I don't play but plan to try to make a return and see if my body can handle it in the long run...
My remaining Prince frames are only prostocks...

I really like the o3 beast 98. Great frame and may become my doubles stick eventually. Can’t beat the price either and I love the Bladerunner font!

I currently play with the Beast 98. I added some lead at 3 and 9 and an over grip and it’s an amazing stick.

I like that it has a bit extra power but it’s not overly stiff like a pure drive.

As another poster alluded to, I think one reason the Beast isn’t more acclaimed is because it’s in the same perceived niche as racquets from other brands who have huge marketing budgets and sponsored tour players.

The Prince frames that actually get a lot of public love and attention seem to be those that are unique to the brand.

I am so appreciative of @Prince Tennis Official that I have ordered demos of the phantom 97 and 93. My plan is to play them and post reviews.

I've been wanting to hear a review from someone I know about those particular Princes. I still have about 25 Princes, my newest being the Tour Pro 98 18x20 going back to the Pro 110 and a little bit of everything in between. After my foray with the PP100P, subsequently trading it off for a couple of PCG100LBs, I've been a little gun shy of the Phantom series. Although after having 30 some Prince 90's from the 80's, the 93P's have intrigued me.

I'd love to see a TT310 with a slightly lower flex say around 62/63 and increased swingweight to around 325-327. Imo it plays a tad too stiff in current form but I'm used to heavier flexible frames.

Then you should definitely get a 93P 14x18. It's got the traditional string string pattern found on the Prince 90's from the 80's, and is a great frame overall.

@Prince Tennis Official, on the Japanese website there is a new Beast 98 with slightly different weight/balance. Is there any difference in how it flexes? Will this new Beast 98 be available in Europe?

Hi Jocke, as we mentioned earlier in this discussion, the Japanese models are often developed specifically for the Japan market and so the performance will differ slightly from the global models. I cannot confirm global introductions at the moment as we are still working on a number of models, however the Beast line will not be introduced globally this spring.

Hello,

just tried to find the Prince Phantom 100P and the Prince Phantom 100X 305 to order, but seems they are not available in Europe. Are these US only?

Did anyone compare the new 100X305 to the Prince Phantom 100 ? For the X305 Prince say it has more power than the phantom 100 pro, but they have the same power level (750). My Phantom has 775. Can I now expect more power from the X305 by itself compared to the phantom 100 with the same swing style?

Thanks,

I played with the original Phantom Pro 100 and just bought the 100x 305 a few weeks ago. The new 100x 305 has quite a bit more power than the original IMO. I added 2 grams of lead at 12 and 2 grams at the butt of the handle. This minor customization really brought this racquet alive with more pop and and better feel. Definitely a really nice frame from Prince!

According to TW reviews, the 100P has more power than the 100x 305 due to the higher swing weight. I also recall a TW tester stating that the 100P has more power than the Tour 310 due to the higher swing weight.

If you can handle the higher swing weight demo the 100P. I bought the 100x 305 and really like the plush feel as well as the nice balance of power and control. There is also room to customize the 100x 305 due to the lower swing weight.

Do you think the X could be weighted up to 345g and still hit well?

That's alot of weight to add. Its a very flexible frame so I think all that extra weight will really deaden the feel and power.

I would recommend going with the 100P if you want more weight. Less customization will be needed IMO.

I mean total weight with string etc, probably about 15-20g added.

I would say that the 100P has more plow-through but not more power than the 100X 305. With the 100X, I felt I had to shorten my strokes to keep the ball in play due to the extra free power (which makes sense - it's a whippy frame with a thicker beam). With the 100P, I can take a long and full stroke without sending the ball out of the court. There is more mass behind the ball and it seems to produce a heavy shot, which is why I characterize it as having more plow-through.

In comparison to the TT 310, the 100P has less power but better touch and feel. It's also definitely more comfortable. My elbow did not like the TT 310, although I played well with it.

@Prince Tennis Official thanks for creating the 93p. I have been a wilson guy my whole life but they don't make anything like the prostaff tour 90 anymore. I tested out the 93p and I am loving it. I went with the 14x18 for easier access to spin.
The only thing I would change is:
* vibration: seems to vibrate more than the tour 90
* plow through: it feels like I have to put more juice into the ball than I had to with the tour 90
The 93p 2020 looks to adjust in that direction but I already committed to 2 of previous versions of the 93p.

Thanks again for the great racquet!

not having a go, genuinely interested but why does it take so long to ship to Europe?
That is also bothering me a bit. Not sure if I should wait some weeks more to demo the new 100X 305 or the new 100P, or demo now the Tour 100 (310) 2019.. I am really into a lower flex. 64 of the Tour 100 (310) seems quite a bit more then the 59/58 of the new rackets.. Do you think beside of stiffness, this rackets are comparable?

I think the Tour 100 (310) is a lot more powerful by the sounds of it and the specs. I'd wait and try both if you can before deciding, should be here in a month. My rackets are DR98s and Clash 98s at the moment, I see the DR as my main kind of the medium of the rackets. Clash for damp days/heavy balls or when I need more power. I think the 305x will be a good control orientated option, also perfect for damp days/heavy balls of which there are many occasions in the UK!

Thanks for your answer. I was just demoing the Blade v7 18x20 and was very satisfied. Only after 2hours when I get a bit tired this racket gets demanding and I miss abit of free power. So regarding power you could say: Tour 100 (310) > Blade v7 18x20 > 305x ?!

We are managing the product development so I don't want to go to far down the rabbit hole of logistics and distribution other than to say some of our partners have single territories and others have more complex distribution with multiple countries etc. While we have global product, it is not always possible for all regions to launch at exactly the same time.

Hopefully the slight extra wait will be worth it for you and you enjoy the frames.

tour 100 (310) and blade are very different 2 sticks... tour 100 (310) is more powerful. Super solid all-around stick. very stable for its weight. Easy to maneuver. Its control is above average. It plays way lower than 64RA. that twaron is magic.. at least for me. Blade v7 18x20 (my current stick) is a different ball game. more demanding. not as easy power but more power if you have time to swing it fast (blade has 335 sw). More plow... fantastic control. Tour 100 (310) has much higher launch angle than Blade v7. They are very different sticks. Different patterns, different balance and different head size.

Well said. Just my 2 cents as I have had all those sticks but now still have the TXT 310 and 305X. The only mod I made to the 305 X is adding 2g to 10' and 2'. The 305 still play a lot more forgiving than the Blade v7 18x20 and is a ton more maneuverable as well. I am stuck in an adjustment period. I play 4.0 singles at my age and do well at 4.5 doubles . Play best with the 305X in singles due to the control and more time it gives me to take a full swing. Dubs with the 310 is still easier due to the power and the short exchanges at net which are almost unmatched.....

Love this thread by the way

Demoed 93P & 100x today. Absolutely gorgeous racquets. My complements to Prince on the design.

Short review / comparison:

93P 14x16 with Prince Premier control hits very comfortably and produces more power for me than the 100x in stock form. Frankly, it’s the closest I’ve gotten in a stock racquet to PS85. However, I hit “old skool,” so don’t have enough RHS & topspin to give me sufficient control with that 14x16 pattern. Maybe the 18x20 version is next, but I worry that it’s too dense (à la Max 200G, which is too dense for me).

The 16x18 (also with Prince Premier) of the 100x had a denser spacing and more controlled, despite the larger head size and ports. I would need to weight up the 100x in the upper hoop and put on a leather grip to get closer to my spec, but not sure if I should be doing that to a brand new demo stick, and that could polarize it too much for my liking. :-/

In all, the new Phantom sticks had a very good feel to them out of the box, excellent quality of construction, and perhaps the most pleasing (to me) aesthetics of any racquets I’ve seen in a long time. There is a subtle difference in the handle shape between Wilson and Prince, I feel, and that could make the switch a little trickier for me. That said, they’re the most tempting racquets I’ve tried in a long time, indeed.

Any hints from the officials on how these would play with regular PSGO or natural gut?.. What tension if comparing to PS85 @ 58 lbs?.. How do these sticks behave relative to, say, POG110/107?

Also, maybe this has been answered already, are the “107” grommets available via TW going to fit on the old POG 110? If not, where can I get POG 110 grommets?

I bought the 100x 305 non-ported version just based upon the TW review. It's a spectacular frame across the board with a nice balance of control and power along with the plush feel feel. I added 2 grams at 12 and 2 grams at the butt of the handle and this set up really brought this frame alive with more plow, pop and better feel. Definitely alot of choices with Prince! I am also very impressed with the new Phantom line!!!

I’ve never hit with a blade and don’t love 18x20 string patterns personally. Tour 100 seems the most powerful of those yes.

Your new racquet of choice over the Blade v7?

Not sure yet. The new Phantom line intrigued me. Definitely a nice offering from Prince. I actually just came back from an outdoor hitting session in NY metro area. I hit with both the Blade v7 and the Phantom 100x. The Phantom is a bit more user friendly IMO but the Blade v7 hits a heavier penetrating ball. With the Phantom I don't have to be as precise as with the Blade have to be on the throttle along with good foot work consistently.

When I am a bit fatigued the Phantom 100x is a better racquet for me. I do prefer the feel of the Blade v7 more. There's more connection to the ball. To be Frank, I am kind on the fence at the moment. I probably won't really know where I am at until the Spring.

Have you tried any of the new Phantom's? What are you playing with?
