Osaka splits from coach

There are plethora of people and n number of mindsets these days which I cant deny... not Putting success above happiness is her choice and no one can question it but stating it a reason for her split is utterly dumb.. you may call me hallow but there a few things which don't change like you play a sport to win, you keep a coach for results and not for happiness and if Womens tennis has evolved into a new whole level where coaches are hired for happiness , I feel extremely sorry for WTA
Do not fret, a few WTA players will still have a parent as a coach, ensuring unhappiness.

Maybe she just thinks a bit different than you and you just don't get it. To me, "she doesn't puts success above happiness which is pure bs" depicts a shallow way of thinking on your behalf. So people are different, you know?

Why are you so convinced it was the right decision. She made a decision, doesnt mean it was the right decision. Im not convinced her state of happiness was anything to do with her coach, which is not his job in the first place, evidenced by the fact she sacked her second coach soon after. She said she had a blast with him - so why was he sacked?

Since coaching Mladenovic, Bajin has taken her from 68 to 39 in the world and World No.1 in doubles which seems to be her main focus today. Bajin has now moved on to coach teenager Dayana Yastremska who is world 22 at the time he took over.

Osaka will likely drop out top 10 after AO due to loss of ranking points. Whos going to bet against Yastremska overtaking Osaka in the next 12 months?

Exactly and I have been yelling the same.... Coaches dont provide you with happiness and hence she must be hiding something..

No one said she hired him for happiness, but if working with him makes her uncomfortable and unhappy for instance due to his behaviour or attitude, then you have a situation/problem.

Bro you are not getting it. The reasons you mentioned above are co-ordination issues, differences due to ego etc. Am not happy working with him is different from I don't want to work with him because he doesn't provide happiness.

All I know is after she beat Serena in that US open many on these boards were calling her the second coming not really understanding the WTA at all.

She had the world at her feet and she threw it in the bin, due to bad judgement.

No doubt those around her were saying you don't need this guy and she felt she didn't need him either, she and her team got a little too big for their boots. When the trophies and endorsements roll in telling you how great you are the ego kicks in. But it turns out sacking the guy who got you straight to the top isn't a good idea. Who knew.

There was a certain ungratefulness and appreciating what her coach did for her and it deservedly has come back to bite.

Your reposting speculation and guesswork does not make it more true
For the upteenth time you are using words like guessing, speculative... We post our views based on what we see, read ,hear and understand. Thats one of reason this tennis forum exists..... If you are so sure that Osaka is right and people criticising are wrong then prove it in a logical way rather than saying that we are guessing, peeping inside her heart and etc.

It is you who use phrasing like "no doubt".

Oh,
Show me one instance where I used it.
Oh, did not notice you were not a12345, who posted the comment before mine. I just think that when people make a choice because of happiness in stead of winning, we are in the personal, existential sphere, where random people should take it a bit easy in judging. To me this is a tennis site, not a how to live your life site.

Now Yastremska and Sasha parted ways after this USO and Osaka wins LOL

Love how this thread gets bumped every time Osaka loses in a Slam or a major tournament for that matter.

I mean sure, it's only been 4 Slams since but she hasn't come anywhere close to winning. No Final, Semi or even a Quarter. And she made it past the Quarters of a Masters event only once and winning it to her credit. But she needs Slams. At this point whether or not her coach was necessarily great it's impossible to discount her winning back to back Slams and then after the split she's got 0 Quarters.

Uh huh.
Decision to ditch Bajin still looking solid (y)
Still looking solid!

There has to be a reason why players don't stick with this guy for very long, even if they are winning

I recall reading there was a bit of tension between him and Mouratoglou when he was Serena's hitting partner. When he left Serena he joined Azarenka then Wozniacki(very briefly). when a coach/hitting partner gets fired that often within a short amount of time you have to wonder. Absurd that so many in this thread think they know anything about what goes on off court with players and their camps etc.

It's sort of like Brad Gilbert, everyone here seems to think Roddick was stupid for firing him all these years later. I recall an interview with Roddick where he said that Gilbert was rarely available to train for long periods, just showed up during the week of an event and was like "let's find a way to get through this" and that sort of deal really didn't work for Roddick. The only long term charge he had was Agassi, who I suspect was the rare player who probably liked the "let's find a way to get through this week" type of attitude.

I still respect Osakas acknowlegdement of what Sasha had achieved with her, her words about being happy is more important to her than winning (good recipe for winning actually), and even the slight hint about something about "going behind her back".

Hmm. I never knew this. I've talked very often about how I wish Roddick hadn't fired Gilbert, but this makes me reconsider. Any article on this?

Why aren't there a lot of former WTA players that coach current players? It seems to be very common on the ATP.

(And yes, I know there are / were some. So you are free to mention Davenport for example and call me an idiot).

'Cause they tire of being around a tennis court and start making babies like normal women do?

All of those bleeding hatred for Osaka kicking her coach to the curb (as if he was some tennis master, and she was a quiet puppet), and posting how much they want her to lose. How does all of that sick hatred taste now? She's won her second US Open title with a great worldview and that coach being some one left on a corner somewhere. Perfect.

Coach I spoke with in local club in Serbia few years back said that Sasa has a habit of getting involved romantically with WTA players he coaches. Now, if that's really true I have no idea but there are rumours.

Because men and women are and always will be different.

Shocking, I know.

I watch a lot of WTA(not just major finals) and I see more than a few female coaches in stands. Don’t recognize them all, but I assume they are all former players.

Pliskova has had 3 female coaches

Among well known players - Mauresmo, Henin, Mandlikova, King, Navratilova, Sanchez have coached.

also, most fed cup captains are women.

I get it. But it's a small community. I would have assumed a few women would want to be coaches after their playing days are done.

It doesn't have to be a majority thing. You could say that these women are already different for training hard at tennis to be at the level of professionals. (With the same being true for men by the way. That type of intensity and commitment is rare, so everyone on tour is "different" by definition).

So it's just a myth.

But judging by the other responses, I'm not the only one to believe in this myth.

Q. How would you characterize John's approach versus Brad or Dean?
ANDY RODDICK: They're a lot different. John is somewhere in the middle. Brad and Dean, they're extremely different, you know. Whereas Dean was about, you know, preparation and, you know, meticulous. He taught me how to be real professional as far as fitness and all this stuff. Brad was like, "Okay, that's great, you show up and you try to win on the day and I'll see you in two weeks," and whatever.
It was different. John is kind of somewhere in the middle. It's nice that he's in Austin all the time so it's not a process of, "Okay, that's great, we'll put it on hold and then start again in two or three weeks."
You know, him and Dean are actually out watching the guys I play right now. So they're kind of similar, similar wavelengths there. But he's somewhere in the middle.

It's mostly uncouth barbarians like myself who believe this and other similar myths.

We're beyond help unfortunately and apparently on the wrong side of history (as I hear it often). Gulags are probably the only answer.

Was Bajin pushing PEDs on Osaka? Bajin was coaching Yastremska, who got busted. Osaka left Bajin she said because he was trying to get her to do things she was uncomfortable doing. Has there been talk of that being the reason?

Osaka won't get anywhere without Sascha Bajin.

What a terrible mistake she made.

Receipts?
Couldn't find those receipts, but she did say the split was not over money:

Everyone thinks it was a money-related issue, but it wasn’t,” the U.S. and Australian Open champion told the WTA in Dubai. “That’s one of the most hurtful things I’ve ever heard.

It's also worth noting none of the women Bajin coaches seem to stick with him for long, so there's got to be something else in play
