Good news.

Edit: That went too far. My apologies to Fed fans who felt hurt by this comment. My explanation was offered in another post that I thought it was a right decision to focus on W and Olympics for Fed.

Big oof.

That #4 seed for Wimbly is very unlikely now.

Guessing he could play earlier than grass but it would be subpar and clay so that's not worth it.

The end, appears, is very nearer..

Yes. Real shame he isn't going to be able to play the Dubai-IW-Miami stretch, as that is one of his best times of the year. An incredible 16 titles coming from those three events alone. But he is targeting a return on the grass, so hopeful for Wimbledon. Long time to go with that Federer magic though.

Last time he had such break, he returned stronger than ever. And it's sounds like he is having just a minor surgery.
Let's see what happens, but I think he should be fresh, healthy and rejuvenated by the time of the grass season.

That’s bad news, almost as shocking as in 2016 when he ended his season after Wimbledon.

It’s also a bit strange since his AO problems were not knee-related and shortly after that he played against Nadal in South Africa anyway. And just a few days ago he talked about his clay schedule with only RG but no sign of a current problem.

I’m not afraid of the seeding at Wimbledon though. On grass he can beat anyone if healthy, and maybe meeting Djokovic earlier than in the final could be even better.

Yeah, but he will likely be outside the top four potentially now considering the haemorrhage of points he will endure before the grass season. A lot of Federer's points are locked up between now and Wimbledon.
Just beat Djokovic or Nadal or Thiem or Medvedev in QF. No big deal

I have a feeling this has been lingering but bothering more and more

Remember him twitching it constantly during AO

This is a disaster for his chances at Wimbledon, and not only because of his ranking, but because he will arrive there with almost no practice for 4 months. He has done the right thing as a potential serious injury there will force him to end his career, so there is a hope that he will be able to recover and play on after that. Still bad news, but, oh well, he will be 39 in August.
