Is Nadal the only man with a realistic chance of stopping Djokovic from breaking the weeks at #1 record?

Djokovic is guaranteed to be #1 through the end of Indian Wells, so will have at least 282 weeks at #1.

Nadal is the only one with even a mathematical chance of stopping him from being #1 through Miami, and so having 284 weeks at #1.

That puts him 26 weeks behind Federer, and so means he needs to hold the #1 ranking through early October to get the record.

#3 Thiem is currently 3,000 points back.

#4 Federer is about the same, and is out until June.

#5 Medvedev is more than 4,000 points back.

Everyone else is more than 5,000 points back.

Djokovic is getting the record, whether it be now or later and everyone needs to accept it. You can't say he didn't earn it.
It's just free real estate these days

Nadal is not interested in no.1 as he never plays a big enough schedule. He is focussed in Slam record as he is only 2 away.

He will not play Miami unless he goes out early in Indian Wells. If he makes SF at Indian wells he will not play Miami.

Really duane? You know I don't like Imhotep but he's out there killing it, and if nobody can beat him what can you say?

Federer fans know his claim to be undisputed goat is gone, finished, caput. Some of them don’t like it, so they are constantly seeking excuses to discredit the achievements of Nadal and Djokovic, such as it being allegedly impossible to be a great tennis player at the grand old age of 32.

Nadal only has to hold Djoker back until Wimby. Fed himself will take it from there.

Lucily Nadal and Federer are statistically the greatest ever on those respective surfaces.

Chances he'll get it are 85%, if he doesn't get injured.

Rafa will be a tough competitor, but even he is very iffy injury-wise.

The others play no role in the no 1 race this year.

Djokovic reached his peak in 2011 and achieved the #1 ranking for the first time by dominating the two players who had ruled mens tennis for 6 years. That he then failed to maintain this dominance and the #1 ranking (missing 49 weeks at #1 over the next 3 years...Federer #1 for 16 weeks in 2012, Nadal #1 for 33 weeks from 2013 - 2014), and is now piling up the slam titles and weeks-at-#1 because of a free/weak real estate market with no rivals, don't mean "earn" in my book.

Read my new thread "Basic Logic 101", all will be clear to you...

Yep between Djokovic and Nadal. It’s going to be close all year. As if Nadal wins final in Acapulco tonight then they matched each other this week. Novak will again need to perform well in Indian Wells to keep no1.

I feel with Federer out the picture coupled with Djokovic and Nadal in good form they will be looking for good showing at Indian Wells. The fact the no1 points is close is a good thing as it’s pushing both of them to keep winning.

Nadal is the big favourite on clay. I feel Novak will need to do well on clay to keep no1 then. As Rafa will most likely improve on his results in Monte Carlo and Madrid for sure. We know when Rafa gets on a roll and translates that to clay he’s tough to stop. Therefore plenty of work for Novak to do but he close to passing Sampras now which is objective 1.

And how is that any different to how Federer piled up the records in the first place?

Novak has zero talent, just a joke.

Djokovic has one of the best all-court/all-surface physical games in tennis history. He showed in 2011 (against younger and more competitive versions of Fedal) how lethal he is when both his mental and physical games are in sync. But as I've stated so often, had Nole maintained that level of play in 2012, 2013, and 2014, today he would have both the slam record and weeks-at-#1 record. Even you, the prosecutor who supposedly isn't selective of facts, agree that his level dropped during those years, no?

Sure it dropped, especially in 2015... all time low Novak's level...

Perhaps you read my post without your reading glasses. I've bolded the parts that you obviously missed:

Let me think who you are. You are a nobody. Your book means nothing to record books.

Accordingly, I can also say, in my book, the dominance of Federer means nothing during 2004-08 as his main competitor was a clay courter still learning to play on other surfaces. Rest were not even close to being an ATG. Now, the tennis prime age has changed from 18-28 earlier to 21-35 due to better conditioning. At least Djokovic had Nadal/Murray/Federer competing on all surfaces. I am not even counting streaky players like Thiem, Cilic, Del Potro, Wawrinka.

Record will fall, most possibly this year, and if not next year...

Even if Rafa became dominant in longer period stopping Novak, he could get record him self...
Rafa is 101 weeks behind, and Novak about 30... That is about 2 and a half years.... Can you imagine other one in that period to be dominant no1? I can't... Even if dome youngster get no1 it will be for short period, they just lack constancy...
So, if its not Novak by some miracle (injury, family tragedy...) it's Rafa's record... Just look at year end points, behind Rafa, Novak and Federer distance to no4 is always many thousands of points... Nothing will change in few next years...

I don't think anyone really cares about most weeks at #1 except for the hardcore fanatics of the big 3.
The only thing that matters is Slam count. The race is on between Nadal and Djokovic. Neither one can really afford to slip up at this stage. Both are lucky to be playing in a piece of sh*t era of weaklings and clowns so they can rack up Slams for the next couple of years it seems like. Also doesn't seem like anything is coming in the generation after Zverev/Tsitsipas/Medvedev either. So it could be another decade before a phenom with the hunger to succeed finally comes along. Nadal and Djoker have a clear path for probably another 4-5 years or longer. Med is only playing for the money, Tsitsipas is a forever 500 tournament achiever, Zed has peaked...none will achieve anything in the Slams.

Your sarcasm-detector isn't working.

Place a 10-cent coin in it. Might work again.

So the next 50 years of men's tennis will be just clowns, huh? One big weak era lasting decades?

Or could it be that the Big 3 are simply much better than the rest? Benefiting from GAS and homogenization, too, of course...

Djokovic thrived when the courts were homogenized and slowed down so that gazelles like himself and Nadal can defend and run down every ball. You know something is weird when there are 40 shot rallies in Wimbledon and clowns like Bautista Agut are making the Wimbledon semis, not to mention most of these guys not having any type of net game.
