Rafa & Fed - A Lesson in Mutual Respect

A picture is worth a thousand words!

http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/photo;_..._surfaces-nadal-federer_2_32_25_pm&prov=getty

i love this great picture of these two great champs - it is evident that they have great mutual respect for each other and are actually genuinely fond of each other!!

Even though they both fight tooth and nail to beat each other on court, they understand that life, at the end of the day, isn't just about winning or denigrating another person, but about learning to respect each!

maybe there's a lesson to be learned for both the Fed vs. Rafa fans on this board??? especially, the Fed fans who resort to calling Rafa a "monkey" (a racially offensive perjorative) and other names, in an attempt to denigrate him or minimize his accomplishments, because he dares to consistently beat Fed and reveal a chink in the armor of the GOAT.

I think that's great and all and I agree with the OP but if Federer knows life isn't about winning and respecting the opponent why does he talk so much trash about Nadal after he loses? It's one of the reasons I can't stand the guy. He's a phony. But yes, they DO seem to get along a lot better than some of their "fans."

Yes as a great Nadal fan but not a Federer hater - I was not pleased with the last interview given by Federer when he lost to Nadal. It smacked of arrogance and he gave little praise to Nadal - who has beaten him now 7 times - I think it will do Federer good to lose the FO and bring him down to earth. Nadal is so often very much the under dog in his interviews regarding Federer and he does not need to be - his performance on clay has been excellent - and equal to Federers on hard court. Its time Nadal reflected this
in His interviews - come on Rafa you are the greatest!

The only time Fed trash talked Nadal was after 2006 Monte Carlo Masters. He said he is one-dimensional. He was really pissed after losing to him.

But later he realized that Nadal is the better player on clay court.
He now repeatedly says how good he was. I don't think in the interview after Monte Carlo 2007 he said anything bad.

Now they have very good respect for each other. Otherwise they won't play this exhibition match.

It's sad, so sad, to see that in this thread, a thread ostensibly about the good relationship between Rafa & Fed, that the supposed 'fans' still need to come in here with silly pointless trash-talk.

Re: the photos.... geez they must have the same stylist! :)

I WAS pleased with the photos and really thought this was a great relationship - even commented on the fact in a previous spoiler UNTIL I saw the video - and then thought c'mon give Nadal a good break the same way that he does when he loses to you - praises your talent - also I have never heard Nadal rubbish Federer - which smacks of real class!!

I do remember McEnroe saying that players nowadays are just so different. Can you imagine McEnroe and Borg doing that?

that's really cool and all, but Fed needs to "learn to despise losing to Nadal..' if he wants the FO. no more of this buddy buddy sh*t

McEnroe and Borg were friendly and did respect each other. Now had you said Connors and McEnroe, or Connors and Lendl or McEnroe and Lendl...well that would have fit.

And I don't think it's right to offend monkeys around the world calling Nads Monkey Boy when in fact he looks like a donkey. ;)

rafa and fed good friends off the court. they are making a deal right now to throw each other a slam, french for fed, wimby for rafa.

.... he looks like a donkey. ;)

El TopspinDonkey?

FUnny, but not as funny as TopspinMonkey.

I think Rafa looks most like one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Just needs to bulk up a little and wear the bandana a little lower. I bet, when he was a kid, that cartoon was popular. And little baby Rafael was pretty proud of his name.

I totally agree... I'm a big fan of Fed, but don't like the way he handles (or doesn't handle) Nadal on and off the court at the moment. Nadal clearly has the upper hand. Nadal is in his head. I saw little signs of defeatism during and after the recent straight set loss in Monte Carlo. He needs to go at it, attack, dictate, show that he will leave everything on the court. At some point I thought Fed was thinking about what he's going to say to the press instead of fighting to the end...

All this buddy buddy stuff indeed doesn't help...
