I played since i was 4-5 but never watched it. They did a great movie on that kid chess player.
I like using the pawn in front of the king so i can get the queen and bishop in action (possible fools mate if they are bad like @Bartelby )
Did you actually play him? I've been playing someone I met on here for years who will remain anonymous unless he decides to chime in. He is annoyingly good but I still enjoy it.
That movie was "Searching for Bobby Fisher" based on the real life story of Joshua Waitzkin.I played since i was 4-5 but never watched it. They did a great movie on that kid chess player.

Wanna play a game on lichess sometime?I played a few chess tournaments when I was younger. Hit a wall in the 1600s and was never able to break 1700.
If you want to play bullet or blitz. I don't have time to play longer games anymore unfortunately.Wanna play a game on lichess sometime?
800 is very low, the bottom of the tournament rankings. 1200 is about a D rating. Grandmasters are 2400 and up. My highest rating was 1848 which would be Class A.
What do you mean by D rating?
1848.... That sounds very high. Is that above something similar to club level?
Grandmaster Master Expert Class A Class B Class C (where I started) Class D Unrated Our club had no masters, but several experts. Most members were in the A B C categories. In 1991 I wrote a small booklet that documented my progress titled "From Class C to Class A in Fourteen Months". At that time I played in tournaments almost every weekend. All the clubs that were around then have disbanded due to online play. Sad really.
Punch in Carlini Chess on youtube. You'll see pretty high level chess over the board with lots of trash talking during blitz games. Very entertaining if you like chess.
@movdqa Yeah, playing against a smoker is the absolute worst.
-I play on my phone only
-I wont touch a game/app unless it has the "UNDO move", feature which I can hit as many times as Ineed until i win, haaaaaa
-bobby fischer (before he went crazy)!!
I hate playing on mobile devices. Too easy to blunder on a move as touch is so inexact.
1800+ is fairly competitive. I'd say like top 5%. Maybe better?
A 1000 rated player could fairly easily demolish someone who plays chess once in a blue moon. Chess tournaments unfortunately just require way too much time. Also the cost. I can't believe my mom was willing to pay for me to go to so many open tournaments. I think I can count on one hand the number of prizes I actually won.
The last tournament I ever played I ended up getting 5 draws out of 5 matches lol They were all higher rated than me, but it was still really annoying.1,800 requires work and maintenance. 600-800 is a beginner.
My highest rating was 1,542 but I drew a Class A player once. I played an oddball closed opening - one of those where you lock up the position with pawn structures. Back then, most players preferred open games. He blundered trying to break open the position and I had a won game. I later blundered and he drew the position.
I play 5minutes only on chess.com There's a number next to my username, it hovers around 1850. Is that the ranking?
Lichess is GarbageChic (which is a joke from another game, I'm not too garbage )If people are setting up lichess matches I'm in.
I never had formal training but me and a buddy picked it up after college scotch and scandi!

The scholars mate is around that afaikso is it possible to get check mate in 3 moves or 4 moves minimum?
I've played over 2000 games and never have averaged over 1500 rating. Guess I suck then or blunder waay too much.
You have to do more than play games to get better. You have to memorize openings, memorize endgame patterns, study middle-game strategy, learn tactics, etc.
You don't get better and better and better in tennis just by playing. Even Federer has had coaches.
Right. This commitment is something I didn't feel worth it in the end for me, not that I wanted to go anywhere much in chess.
so is it possible to get check mate in 3 moves or 4 moves minimum?
SA: I was stuck in an airport with a guy and we tried that and lost places about the same point. It's wild stuff.
