Hello fellow Tennis fanatics. Hopefully you're all doing well. I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were in regards to going out and playing tennis right now. We're about 6 weeks into this pandemic now and here in the U.S. they say that most of the country has seen a slight curve in positive cases of Covid-19. Everyone that I know including myself here in Central Pennsylvania are still for the most part self isolating ourselves and playing it safe. Lately I've been wondering if anyone out there has been playing any tennis yet. I realize that until a vaccine is developed and administered to everyone we will be battling this virus for many months to come. But when will it be o.k. to go out and play recreational tennis with each other again? My thoughts are this. Two individuals playing tennis would be plenty of distance apart from each other. And if they wouldn't be shaking hands, there would be no contact. The only question that runs through my mind is in regards to touching the balls. I guess technically if there were germs on the balls the two individuals could pass the virus that way right? It's all just so damn depressing and frustrating right now because I'm sure many of us are itching to get out and play but just dont know what the right thing to do is.

Please share your thoughts on this. I'd love to hear what everyone else is doing and thinking about right now.

All the courts are locked up here in the city, so I had to go to a suburb yesterday. I hit with new balls and a random guy who happened to be there. We never touched the balls with our hands. We both picked up the balls with the racket and heel and fed it that way. He was very agreeable to doing it that way. I asked the guys in the neighboring court not to pick up, but rather to kick over any balls that stray onto their court, and they were more than understanding as well. The new tennis etiquette. It felt great just to hit around.

The courts in my subdivision have remained open. I've been playing regularly with my wife and son (mostly bunting the ball around) and singles with my doubles partner in my neighborhood. Lots of hand washing and hand sanitizer and all that.

Also using my ball machine a few times a week

All courts padlocked--public streets closed by NIMBY's with signs saying "local traffic only" enforced by police--parking lots for walking paths and trailheads closed and monitored by police--snitches taking pics and writing down license plates of "non-residents" visiting relatives--crazy lady on bicycle shaming non-mask wearers exercising coughing and spitting in their path--the "police state" is here! thanks to gov gavin "Groveling Nuisance" newsome auditioning for prez--he was first to declare house arrest and his hood will be last to open with the goal to inflict as much pain as possible to the marketplace--thanks your highness :mad:--He needs to be impeached! Dwayne "Rock" Johnson for GOVERNOR OF KALI! Tennis? not for a long time to come under this "new-abnormal". gov groveling nusiance's neighborhood : first to shut down last to reopen in the interest of inflicting as much pain as possible on working people to create the new world order.

If you can get the wu-wu flu from touching a tennis ball, what other dis-eases have we been exposing our selves to all these years ? ? ? --polio? chicken-pox? measles? aids? mumps?

Didn't know handling tennis balls was SO high risk! What are we doing to our dogs--should the humane society be called on people throwing tennis balls to their dogs? Which ball manufacturer will be the first out with "anti-viral" tennis balls?

Are trace amounts of viri on tennis balls actually beneficial for acquiring herd immunity? Can tennis ball fuzz be harvested and bottled for purchase at the Whole Foods homeopathic aisle? This could be a great money maker on the Shark Tank show.

I used to swim for my aerobic conditioning and stretching out between matches--a pool I've swum at is only allowing ONE swimmer in the pool at a time?--ONE AT A TIME!--this is an Olympic size pool! Which swim strokes will not be allowed? --"free-style"? NO, germs into the water--"back-stroke" NO, aerosolizing into the atmosphere!

Hot-tubbing will be out of the question--massages, no way! The "new--abnormal".

Played 3 sets of dubs last Saturday, will probably do same this Saturday. Everyone was cautious, everyone was rusty.

If they can start sending peeps back to work, then cautiously playing tennis is fine.

And no, l did not take everyone's temperature and ask if they had any symptoms prior. Am l a threat to society?

Golfers are on average in a higher economic demographic then tennis players, therefore in a better position to contribute, i.e., bribe politicians--lots of business going on in those golf carts--tennis players are more easily overheard by neighboring courts.

Because with golf you only handle your own ball and equipment, it is a no contact sport, and you can easily stay six feet apart from other golfers. If you walk instead of using a golf cart, there shouldn't be any danger of spreading the virus.

How many people are actually walking? There is the golf cart, the holes everyone stick their hands into, the flag sticks...

Yes, you can mitigate the risk with these, but it's the same thing with tennis. Just go out there with two sets of balls, one for each player so you never actually share any equipment.

True! But there will be collateral damage to the little people :

*Valet's will not be parking members' cars--Those Mercs and Teslas are full of germs!

*Cart handlers will not be allowed to handle members' bags.

*Clubhouses closed, no f & b --why even bother playing golf if there's no booze? Stay home and play corn-hole in the backyard, it's the perfect social-distancing sport, corn-hole boards are placed 27" apart.

*The cute girl tooling around in the snack cart dispensing beer & hot-dogs will be unemployed.

Around here, courts are closed on a town-by-town basis. The local players know which towns have them open. The weather has been the biggest obstacle; we’ve been having a very cool, wet month. But the courts are packed when the weather is nice.

Going to start golfing next week as courses are opening up. My tennis club and local public courts are all still locked up. Hoping some will re-open in the next two to four weeks.

Biggest problem with my tennis club is that the courts are still under winter bubbles and the company that takes them down is from another province and isn't sending anyone anywhere. And they are likely to only get approval for outdoor tennis from public health. So we are in a bind. My public courts have locks on them so no tennis yet unless I climb over the fence and I'm too old for that.

Yes, but it is sparingly. Maybe once a week. There aren't many places here open. The main tennis centers have all closed. There is a small park that is open and a tennis facility that is so poorly ran that any one can show up and play on it and no one is there to tell them they can't.

When I hit it usually with one other person and there is no one else around.

What date? Heard it was at least two more weeks. Bay Area was first to quarantine and will be last to reopen.

Current language in the orders on various county sites are vague enough that it might not happen. Might not open the public courts, clubs might open.
I hope I am wrong.
I haven't played since March 17th.. :(

I walked into a building and some lady at the entrance was shooting everyone with a temperature gun. Fine with me.
She shot me in the forehead and just stared at me in horror and disgust and said, "Your temperature is 96?!".
She just continued to stare at me for 30 seconds, mouth open, saying nothing...
And? What am I supposed to do with that "information" Miss temperature gun lady? Go get your damn gun checked.
I then proceeded to go about my business.

Live where the snow only melted about two weeks ago. Have been playing with own nets since then. Now all courts closed with tape on them lol. Debating whether to just walk on but tickets are in the thousands$$ if caught (allegedly). Ridiculous

The new order is effective at 11:59 p.m. on May 3, 2020, if it wasn't clear when (if) they will open.

Berkeley has its own public health dept. They had shut down their tennis/b'ball courts including SPP, a few days before the county orders went into effect.

Isn't it great how the wonderful Berkeley progressives are so quick to shut down public parks and place the people under home lockdown.

That's funny...and yes, so you took my temp. Now what? What if it was 99.1? Would you be denied entrance?

I'm sure when l go back to work, some non-medical rum-dum will be taking everyone's temps....and then what???

These "procedures " are all just window dressings until there is a vaccine.

There are lawsuits lurking there. Fever can be a symptom of many problems besides viral infection.

Play nurse rum-dum will be more likely spreading disease with her temp-a-cheer taker, getting in everyone's faces--is she going to sterilize her thermometer in an auto-clave between customers? This could be spreading dis-ease more then in-sanitary tennis balls.

No doubt, but most businesses are NOT going to have a medical professional handling the temperature gun....so what is this random person going to do with this information? Raul SJ said she stood there with her mouth open.

When I'm cleared back to work, it will probably be my boss taking temps...maybe security. Both are trained to a certain small level of first aid, so what will they do if most people's temps are not 98.6? Send me home, try again tomorrow? Unlikely, since secretly most work places want production first. Publicly, safety is numero UNO, but secretly....they want the work done.

It is an IR thermometer which operates at a distance, not the rectal ones you are used to

Yes, Playing everyday... My club and local public courts are still closed, but we have access to a private court (Rancho Santa Fe) as well as a couple courts in a small HOA complex. My buddy from up north,(Newport Beach) called me today and said that some of the public courts were opened yesterday. So it looks like things are starting to loosen up. Also, our beach Del Mar is opening back up tomorrow morning!

Berkeley is a fantastic place. It is the most innovative place on earth. Even the homeless guys who poop on the street don't want to do that anywhere else.
