Worst Grand Slam Finals in history???

The worst has to be the Wimbledon 1994 final. Where's that rally length graphic when you need it?

Either that or one of the matches where one player is hopelessly injured, like AO14 or W17.

Here is the image that I posted, King No1e:

Pretty sure this 1988 French Open 6-0, 6-0 beat down by Graf over Zvereva was pretty bad. I felt really bad for Natascha during the match.

The only ever double bagel in a women's Slam final (at least in the open era). Close second was 1975 Wimbledon when BJK thrashed EGC for the loss of just 1 game.

2010 Wimbledon, 2013 Roland Garros, 2017 Roland Garros, 2017 US Open and 2018 Wimbledon probably the most boring and uninteresting ones in not particular order in recent times.

It's funny you didn't mention:

AO 2006 final after the second set was trash.
RG 2009
Wimbledon 2005 and 2017
US Open 2004 and 2008

But hey, some people like one-sided beatings, don't you think?

Overall, the 2017 USO final wasn't necessarily a beatdown, it was more of ridiculous outplaying, while the rest were literal beatdowns. I watched the 2017 USO live, and generally considered it to be a decent match, with decent points, and decent overall competition. I sincerely feel if Rafa was slightly less in god mode, and Kevin was serving better, it would have gone to 5 based on the rest of the match.

Shameful.

Some are acting like USO 2017 final is the worst final ever. It was still not as bad as Wimbledon 2017 final. Anderson at least tried, unlike Cilic who totally gave up after the first 4 games or something.

The list is strange anyway.

I cant include all the matches in a top 10. Have to judge which ones were bad.

I get it, but don't you think it's funny that when the idol of the fans won the final easily, they praise the match to the core, but if this happens with the rival or rivals of his idol, then the final automatically becomes boring?
I think this is called bias, isn't it?

I'll start this off, but keep in mind, I haven't watch much tennis before 2000:
#10: Australian Open 2020. It wasn't necessarily a terrible match, but it was just so underwhelming based on what was expected by the way they moved through the draw.

I watched this but cant remember any of it.
It is a stretch to place it on an all time worst list. A 5 set match always has some drama....In this case #17 for our favorite Djoker...

Granted Thiem is one of the least charismatic players out there.

2006 AO was actually a very good match, in my opinion. 2005 and 2017 Wimbledon could easily be included on a worst matches of all time list. 2004 and 2008 US Open were again not necessarily bad matches, but could make it onto a list of honorable mentions. I am saying this not being a particular fan of any of the big 3. You just have to admit that when Federer goes god mode, it is much more exciting than Nadal god mode, which is in turn more exciting than Djoker god mode. I think all of them are amazing tennis players, but they are not my favorites by far. I consider myself to be unbiased in their regard.

Just read the rest of the thread. Hopefully this will make sense.

The first two sets, then the quality was downhill.
US Open 2004 was a mix of what we called "god mode" and being trashy, as RG 2008 was.
The 2008 US Open was an one sided performance; Murray only played well in the second set, he was horrible the rest of the match.
However, his worst performance in a GS final was AO 2011.

Yep. I mean it was hard to play Djoker in 2011, so I'll give him a break for that. It was also hard playing Rafa in 2008, so I'll give Roger a break for that.

That poster is a Djokovic fan.

It's sad how salty and petty some of you are tbh.

Hope you're not like this in real life.

Didn't we just have a "Rank Murray's slam final losses" thread?
Yeah. Wasn't expecting it to turn into that. Guess that people don't like Murray. In my opinion, he just went up against the wrong player at the wrong time many times in his career. He has delivered some pretty impressive beatdowns though.

I can't consider Cilic as injured in W17. Didn't impact the match except for maybe a few games.

I actually hadn't read most of the thread. Just making at joke at poor Andy's expense.

There's no denying he had it tough in his slam finals, but even so I think he significantly underperformed. He was beating Fed silly in best-of-three for a few years but then crapped the bed when he met him in slam finals.

It is fun (and pathetic) when some are bothered by discrepancies and as a last resort they resort to name-calling or personal attacks anonymously.
Unfortunately they abound in sports forums.
Tennis does not escape from those despicable beings.
Exactly, hopefully their behavior through the keyboard is different from how they unfold in personal life.

You people focus on men. But they have nothing on women in that category. The absolutely worst GS final in the Open Era was Graf vs Zvereva RG 1988. A 6-0, 6-0 beatdown in about 20 minutes. Tickets for this "show" weren't really value for money.

I mean...it seems like you were bothered by the apparent discrepancies and were triggered into taking a shot at Fed, when the poster in question was a Djokovic fan.

It's basically octobrina levels of posting.

Look, I can say the same when someone talk about (seen from a neutral point of view) how bad was the quality of some Grand Slam finals that involved Federer and you as a fan of him can feel alluded to and become very sensitive because it is a different point of view from yours.
And they start to get upset about something as banal as high-level sports.
And I don't know if this is your case, but many fans take it very personally and download it anonymously in a very aggressive and absurd way against those who don't think like them.
And finally, the fans of certain players draw the attention of the other fans of the rivals of their idol and make a comparison with the intention of offending as you are trying to do with me and that is not admissible.

I expect your choice. Not so much to ladies tennis but this match i watched that day.
One of those live matches that sticked to my head because it was so brutal.

But you also gave me too much credit...I was a big fan of Steffi and oddly enough, Zvereva was also the pin-up player on my bedroom wall...ahahhahahhaha I remember I had a poster of her riding a bike.

I loved that match! I can't remember McEnroe being the underdog even though he rolled around on the grass at Wimbledon like a drugged out dog while being upset by Curren a couple months before! McEnroe started out hot in the final and was up a break before it turned around! John was up 5-2, then serving for 1st set at 5-3 before being broken, then dropping a TB! McEnroe was then systematically run off the court by Ivan in straight sets! The women's final was the exact opposite with drama galore; Mandlikova over Navratilova in 3 sets (2 TBs)! ;)

Wimbledon '90 Navratilova - Garrison. That was Coffee Tennis.

Maybe the inevitable result was a snooze since it wasn't in question, but when I think of wasted finals I instantly go to '75 & '83! Evonne was "done" from previous match against Court in the SF and mentally wasn't in the final! Martina overwhelmed a mentally spent Jaeger; more an issue due to an abusive father over an opponent working her nerves! IDK how Andrea even went out to play that match running away from her crazy father! She may have even stayed with Martina and her entourage the night before! Interesting enough Martina had another survivor playing against her in '90! Found out later Zina's husband was an abusive jerk! :cautious:

In a lot of ways, I'm still getting over that match; both physically & mentally! It was one of those rare occasions I turned the match on early so I'd guess it was 1 AM here in Chicago! As long as some of their matches in the past, I saw it being short thinking Nole would serve it out in the 4th! Somehow I watched and taped every moment, unable to get to bed until well after 9 AM! I still feel it! I was legitimately awake for over 24 hours and may never really recover fully! ;)
