Muster failing to win a single match at Wimbledon also comes to mind. Especially so considering he's a former world #1.

Also Gaudio failing to make it past the fourth round in every Slam tournament he entered except for just one. That one he ended up winning.

Nadal's stretch from 2012-2017 where he never made a QF at Wimbledon was also strange considering he had won the tournament twice and made three extra finals in the previous set of six years.

Your first two stats are two of my favourites.

The Gaudio-Coria final also has another remarkable stat, in that Coria is the only man ever to have been within one point of winning a singles slam, yet never to have won one.

Not a slam but mention of Gaudio made me think of this odd fact:

The majority (5) of the 8-man field at Masters Cup’05 were South American; half the field were from Argentina.

Nalbandian (champion)
Gaudio (SF)
Gonzalez
Puerta
Coria

Gaudio had to go 10 sets to make 3R. Smooth sailing until the final. To compare:

Gaudio lost 43 games before 3R; Borg lost 32 games to sweep RG’78.

Djokovic’s “win” over Federer in the 2019 Wimbledon Final was only the second slam Final that we know of in which the defeated player won more points than the winner. It’s also the only slam final in which the losing player broke serve more than twice as many times as the winner.

The other slam final in which the losing player won more overall points was the 2009 AO Final.

God help tennis if true.
He really isn't.

Medvedev has a game that holds up horribly long term. He's at his athletic peak right now and won't really get better. Still should have gotten straight setted by Nadal. Also sitting duck on clay, bad on grass. Then loses to ancient Wawa at AO.

The entire hype rests on a super hot run, but in that run he lost to Kyrgios, got a lucky win against Djokovic in a Bo3 match, got destroyed by Nadal and had a lol easy draw to a USO final.

Medvedev won more points than Agassi in 99 RG final

Marat Safin won the Australian Open in 2005, then finished the year ranked #12 and didn't qualify for the World Championship.

Posted this in the crazy stats thread:

Ferrer has beaten Nadal at HC majors more than Fedr has
To piggy back, Murray has beaten Djokovic more times in a slam final than Federer has...............like seriously, as a fan there’s no doubt that his performance against his top rivals has been the toughest part about the Fed experience

I believe John Isner is the most successful American at the FO in over a decade. Since 2009, Roddick made one 4R, Sock made one 4R, Steve Johnson made a few 3R’s. Other, less relevant Americans McDonald, Tiafoe, and Opelka have never made it past the first round. Isner tops all of them by reaching 3 4R’s in Paris, and is one of only 2 players in tennis history to push Nadal to five sets at RG (only other one was Djokovic) in 2011.

I think it’s strange, but that’s just me.

Well, Fedovic met only in slam semis in 2008-2012. From 2014 onwards Fed has been too old to beat Novak in a major final and that's when they started meeting in finals on a regular basis.

Which American man would you have expected to get further during this period?

Roddick's best result at the French is a 4R.

Not bizarre when you think about it, but Roddick has a losing record at RG. He's lost more matches than he's won there.

-Federer only made it past the Wimbledon 1st round once before he won it.
-Federer was also 7-0 in Slam finals at one point

Man, Fed deffo ruined his chances in 2004-2005. Could see him taking USO 2004 and W 2005 without the Swiss screwing things up.

I'd pick Hewitt to win W 2005, but I'd slightly favor Agassi at USO 2004 (Andre had won a solid 3 setter over Lleyton at Cincinnati, and the crowd would have been hugely behind him in the final).

All MaliVai Washington's results at Wimbledon: 2R 2R 1R 2R 1R 1R Final.

Todd Martin helped the cause IIRC by choking away a 5-1 lead in the 5th Set! Washington making a Wimbledon final was like Chris Lewis in '83; WHO?
